  1. You could argue that, sure. But people tried saying that last year too. The Bears, with Cutler, are much better than they were last year.
  2. I hope he stays healthy all year and then combines his penchant for throwing absolutely disastrous picks with the Vikings tendency to completely collapse to form the uber-heartbreaker of heartbreakers. He's going to coast through the cupcake schedule they have the first 5 weeks, then we'll just see what happens the rest of the way.
  3. No, the regulars that sat yesterday are in there, while the regulars that played yesterday (Lee, Fukudome and Fontenot) are resting. Those other two are sitting because it's a lefty, no?
  4. No, but Favre is only an upgrade over Safe/Tavaris is name/reputation only. Favre was a great player, but I just don't see him improving the Vikes at that much. He won't hurt, but after watching last with the Jets, it's clear he doesn't have much left in the tank. Again, before he got hurt last year he was completly 65 percent of his passes. He had thrown 20 TDS. He was turning around a team that was 4-12 the year before. He played bad when he got hurt because he played throught it and he had to throw the ball 30+ times a game. He will not have to do that in Minnesota. He didn't turn that team around, the 2007 Jets were better than their record. Favre had one big game, against Arizona, and didn't do much else all year, aside from throw horrible picks, repeatedly. He stunk in like 6-7 games.
  5. He's got to be on pace for like 450 PA by now, no? Sure that's because he had to fill-in while Ramirez was out, but that's been the problem all along. They got the guy and he's going to play a lot, and he sucks.
  6. It makes Minnesota better, but I still think the Bears are the favorites for the division. And I'm a Titans fan. Im a Packer fan and im saying the Vikings with Favre are head and shoulders the fav in the division. Maybe im biased but im not buying this Bear hype at all. But thats just my opinion. They barely beat the Bears last year. Vikings get Favre, Bears get Cutler, I don't see how Vikings vault to head and shoulders status. Favre will lose them games. There is no doubt. Right, and Cutler won't lose any games for the Bears? Not like Favre will.

  8. In theory, for a couple months. But he will inevitably lose them a game they should win, and screw them over. It's what he does best. I can't wait to see him throwing to Urlacher and Briggs.
  9. I really hate that phrase. It's such a subjective, almost arbitrary description. It seems like every Jayson Stark type column quotes people who insist so and so "might be the best pure hitter in the game". It's just talk for the sake talk.
  10. Thoughts? Pass rush is a skill that can be turned back on with a flip of a switch. I'd be fine with a one year deal with him just playing in obvious passing downs. No strong feeling either way though.
  11. http://deadspin.com/5242415/arsenal-fan-commits-suicide-after-champions-league-wipeout
  12. If you say Mena Suvari, this is more or less what I see: http://www.kellie.de/alicia/mena-suvari.jpg That looks nothing like Denise Richards to me.
  13. I think she looks more like SE than Suvari, and that's not just taking chest into account.
  14. Tara Reid or Shannon Elizabeth? Denise's career has had the train wreck aspect of Reid's, plus, the years have taken a bit of a toll on her. I guess she kind of looks like Shannon.
  15. From the standpoint of Bradley getting the boot, I agree. It was too quick. However, Milton ends up being hung out to dry a little bit by being the only one putting up the fight. If Lou is out there, now Bradley has a little more support. Instead, it just looks like Milton being Milton. And this is an actual complaint Milton had every right to make, IMO. If Lou goes out to argue balls and strikes he gets tossed and quite possibly suspended.
  16. First guess? Because your last film of any note was Love, Actually in 2003, and your last TV appearance worth mentioning was on Dancing with the Stars where you were quickly eliminated? Haha. I was actually referring to the Cubs organization, not Denise. However, I will agree that she's really not all that relevant. But, when I see her, she reminds me of one of the girls in American Pie. She's not an A-lister, but she is known, she is from the area, and she was there already promoting a charity. Winning is the best way to grow fan bases, but that has done very little good for some teams, like the New Jersey Devils. That team has won a bunch, but they do zero PR/Marketing, and struggle whenever the team is less than Stanley Cup caliber. The main goal should be on winning games, but you have to prepare for years when the team struggles. And stuff like this doesn't take away from winning.
  17. as Sandberg said, "the name on the front is a lot more important than the name on the back" Screw principle, if you can help the team by taking a suspension when it wouldnt matter instead of possibly taking one when it would, you do it. He would be helping the team more if he stopped being hurt and hit the ball a little more often. Did you see the at bat that got him suspended? Ridiculous calls by the umpire. The whole team should have gotten themselves kicked out for those called strikes. The league should review the tapes and fine and suspend the umpire for making such horrible calls. I'm at least a little disappointed Lou didn't go out there and put up a fight for his player. The thing about that is it happened so quick, there was barely any time for Lou to do anything. It was called strike three, Bradley yells, ump throws him out, next batter.
  18. as Sandberg said, "the name on the front is a lot more important than the name on the back" Screw principle, if you can help the team by taking a suspension when it wouldnt matter instead of possibly taking one when it would, you do it. Says the guy who ditched his team because his wife was a slut and then came back a hell of a lot worse.
  19. I'm sorry, but fans who whine about a guy appealling a suspension are just completely irrational.
  20. But you can't. They are going to lose at least 60 games this year. I'd rather give everybody the same day off, and play at full strength for the next 5 days than weaken the team every game for 6 days. Understood that they will lose 60 games. However, will the Cubs be playing at full strength for the next 5 days? If so, then I'm making this a bigger deal than it really needs to be. Well, they won't have Zambrano. And as long as Bradley, and to a lesser extent Ramirez, are on the team, they won't necessarily ever play at full strength. But they have a 2 day trip to Houston and then fly right back north to Milwaukee. That can take a lot out of guys. At least they have an off day next Monday, and another the following Monday. They should be able to play the next 12+ games (most against division opponents) without having to think about resting regulars.

  22. Dusty Baker said the mid-to-late 90's Yankees didn't walk or worry about OBP.
  23. Fair enough on the weather issue. I hadn't looked ahead at the schedule. It's obvious that weather most likely won't be an issue. Agreed that Reed hasn't played well and doesn't hit RHers. However, I'd still take him over Gathright getting a start. Gathright is just a waste of a roster spot. Hoffpauir could have filled in for Lee, who has played more than anyone else except Theriot and Fontenot. Lee has been nearly as bad as anyone else on the roster, yet he didn't get a day off. Just weird, IMO. Hoffpauir played left field for Soriano.
