  1. How do you come to that conclusion? If Cutler is a better QB than Favre, that means the Bears improved more than the Vikings in the offseason. There was only one game of difference between the two teams last year. Little separation between the teams plus the Bears being more improved than the Vikings leads to Minnesota being more likely to win this year? I don't understand. Just because Cutler is a better QB doesn't mean Favre can't have a better year. Favre has more to work with around him, and he isnt going to be asked to more then what Cutler is going to be asked to do. I belive the Bears overachived last year, and their core players on defense are getting older and might be losing a step (see Urlacher, Brian). No, the fact that Favre isn't good and is very old and injury prone is the reason he can't have a better year.
  2. I hate you. It's been raining here for 40 days and 40 nights.
  3. He'll be back in July, what's the difference to Cubs fans? Aside from the 4 game series coming up, it won't really matter.
  4. Not only without him, but with this distraction. This has the ability to completely ruin their season. I doubt that. They have no real competition in that division.
  5. True. But, the downtime between holes also allows the teams behind/in front of you to keep a close eye on whether or not you're cheating. [-X Also, a par 3 course doesn't really take all that long to play. Should be done in 3 hours, max. ETA: I'm actually calling the GM for the company that's hosting this event to find out which type of scramble it actually is. Yeah, shouldn't be long. But it depends on how many groups are out there. Most scrambles I've been in usually have at least 1.5 groups per hole to start. If they have 2 teams at every hole it'll drag out. Needless to say, I'd much rather be doing that today.
  6. Does LA still have to pay the salary and it goes to some MLB general suspension fund, or do they save 1/3rd of his salary and get him back for the stretch run/playoffs?
  7. Red Sox fans reap all the benefits and suffer none of the consequences. Instead they end up with Jason Bay in his prime.
  8. A best ball tournament on a par 3 course could make for a lot of downtime between holes. A scramble makes more sense.
  9. Aside from assuming Favre stays healthy and somehow reverses the downward spiral of his career at 40, anybody saying that move makes the Vikings clear favorites over the Bears has to assume that the oft-injured Adrian Peterson will also stay completely healthy this year. The notion that Favre would come in and throw 20 times a game is a joke. If they go through the trouble of acquiring Favre, you better believe they are going to put the ball in his hands quite a bit. Favre isn't going to change who he is, and Brad Childress, of all people, does not have the ability to pull in the reins on anybody of Favre's stature.
  10. You have no idea what you are talking about. Hockey on tv used to be blah, the dawn of HD completely revitalized it. Playoff hockey is a whole 'nother animal. Playoff hockey on HD is riduculously good tv.

There was only one game of difference between the two teams last year. Little separation between the teams plus the Bears being more improved than the Vikings leads to Minnesota being more likely to win this year? I don't understand. As hard as this is to believe though, the Bears probably had a better QB situation last year than the Vikings. So did they really improve more? Absolutely. They went from a halfway decent QB who, if all goes well, won't lose you games, to a guy that can win games. The Vikings got a QB that will lose them games, repeatedly. Chicago relied on their defense and running game to make up for a lacking passing game, and stood toe to toe with Minnesota all season. Cutler makes the Bears defense better, Favre will not make the Vikings defense better.
  12. Because you don't understand that Brett Favre isn't that good anymore. His stats last year before he got hurt would disagree. I paid attention to the Jets all year, he wasn't good. He had one big game, and maybe one or two other good ones. But he stunk before he got hurt. He hasn't been good for years.
  13. This is a pet peeve of mine. Is there a type of scramble where you don't play the best ball? Why not just say scramble? We'll all know what you mean. Otherwise, why not say "best golf ball scramble of golfing by using the best of the 4 golf shots as a team"! I'm sure at least one team will have already filled out their 18 under card before they've left the 1st tee. Yeah, that always sounded redundant to me as well. But I don't know much about "games" you can play while golfing. I usually just hit the ball and try to score as low as possible (which isn't low). But just plain old best ball is everybody plays a normal round and the team submits the best score on that hole, right? No. Best ball is each player in the foursome hits, and then the 4 man team chooses which of the 4 shots they will all shoot from next, hence "best ball". No, that is scramble. Best ball involves everybody playing the hole normally and taking the best score. Here: http://golf.about.com/cs/golfterms/g/bldef_bestball.htm http://www.thegolfexpert.com/lingo-b.php

I'm sure at least one team will have already filled out their 18 under card before they've left the 1st tee. To relieve your peeve, I'll let you know now that there most certainly is other types of scrambles. Different players hitting where the ball lies is another type of scramble. I tee off, you hit the next shot, etc... That's not a scramble.

  17. With Harden you have to use preventive medicine. The Cubs acknowledged this when they acquired him and over the offseason/beginning of spring training. But they haven't shown any signs of doing anything about it so far this regular season. To top it off, Harden was facing the heart of their order for the 4th time in the game. To suggest there was no reason to take Harden out before the 8th is to completely ignore the facts.
  18. I think most posters finally got fed up with the game threads and decided to never go in there. The lack of Cubs talk in general is appaling. When I click "View New Posts", the majority of posts are non-baseball related. Appalling? Really? The amount of non-Cubs related discussion in game threads reaches appalling levels?
  19. Really? What else is he going to do? He's getting paid a ridiculous amount of money, has already made millions, and all he is doing is rehabbing a shoulder injury that probably isn't even painful on a daily basis unless he's trying to throw a baseball. I'm not negative on the guy, but I don't admire him for doing what he's doing. He was actually smart and finished his schooling and has a degree in business from USC Yes, but clearly "rehabbing" is far more lucrative and less work than trying to make what he makes now in business. Yeah, it's pretty much a no brainer for him to choose rehab over selling insurance, especially in this job market. And it's obviously a much better option than coaching at a lower level. What's he going to be an assistant high school coach?
  20. No, in and of itself it's not bad. But it's what led to this that is messed up. Samardzija goes to AAA to get innings, but before he gets a chance they call him up unnnecessarily because some veteran isn't throwing all that well but he's getting the job done. Then when he struggles they replace him with some journeyman reliever with marginal stuff in hopes that he'll pull out some tricks. Meanwhile, they've let guys like Wood, Wuertz and Gaudin go for pretty much nothing, and trade for a mediocrity like Gregg. Lou falls in and out of love with relievers on a daily basis, and when guys get banished they stand no chance of returning. But some guys get an unlimited numbers of opportunities to suck.
  21. You could argue that, sure. But people tried saying that last year too. The Bears, with Cutler, are much better than they were last year.
  22. I hope he stays healthy all year and then combines his penchant for throwing absolutely disastrous picks with the Vikings tendency to completely collapse to form the uber-heartbreaker of heartbreakers. He's going to coast through the cupcake schedule they have the first 5 weeks, then we'll just see what happens the rest of the way.
  23. No, the regulars that sat yesterday are in there, while the regulars that played yesterday (Lee, Fukudome and Fontenot) are resting. Those other two are sitting because it's a lefty, no?
  24. No, but Favre is only an upgrade over Safe/Tavaris is name/reputation only. Favre was a great player, but I just don't see him improving the Vikes at that much. He won't hurt, but after watching last with the Jets, it's clear he doesn't have much left in the tank. Again, before he got hurt last year he was completly 65 percent of his passes. He had thrown 20 TDS. He was turning around a team that was 4-12 the year before. He played bad when he got hurt because he played throught it and he had to throw the ball 30+ times a game. He will not have to do that in Minnesota. He didn't turn that team around, the 2007 Jets were better than their record. Favre had one big game, against Arizona, and didn't do much else all year, aside from throw horrible picks, repeatedly. He stunk in like 6-7 games.
