  1. Temps around 6, with 7 mph wins out of the ENE, which is in from center/right field. WOW, must have been a huge cold front move in. ;) 6 degrees is COLD. Would it help if I pretended that was meant to be celsius? That's still really cold. What is that, mid 40's? Not that bad. But yeah, I meant 60F, not sure how I missed the 0.

  3. What's preferable, having him make that start on 9 days rest, or having him start today and just go 3-4 innings and then start Friday on 3 days rest. I would think it would be better to have a guy make his starting debut coming off short rest and a light workload rather than unusually long rest. He's already going to have the adrenaline flowing.
  4. No, technically there is no such thing. If SOS has any meaning, it's over short durations of time, when everybody hasn't already played everybody else.

  6. Aren't people reporting that Aramis might start today?
  7. The Mets are a few games under .500 and a bit of a mess. Since when do we track a team's DL lists statistically to determine their health? It's a pointless example.
  8. They also played (and swept) the Mets. Blaming or thanking the schedule can get kind of silly. Saying that this guy was hurt, or that a team lucked out by missing a stud pitcher in a 3 game series etc. I try not to get to excited or frustrated by the standings till Memorial Day, and probably shouldn't till the All-Star break. To show you how misleading somethings can be in the early goings, the Cubs on paper are the healthiest team in baseball. They've had the least amount of time by players spent on the DL. Using the Mets as an example of a good team they've played doesn't really help your argument. And your example about the DL is completely useless.
  9. I think it's pretty clear the opposing shortstop has been tipping pitches to Theriot with expectations that Theriot will return the favor.
  10. MacPhail brought Stockstill over there didn't he?
  11. The Cubs biggest goal this past offseason was to get more left handed. Mark DeRosa bats with the right hand. End of story.
  12. He's been on a regular rotation so far, and was coming off his highest pitch count. I'd like to see them give him some more 6-7 day rests or skipped starts starting in May. Preventive medicine.
  13. So who is starting tomorrow? Lilly? He probably needs to throw a complete game.
  14. I don't think Marvin is a fit with this team. I think he'd be a nice veteran to have if one of Bennett/Iglesias take a little while to perform well. That said, his best days are behind him. I just don't see it working out. He's played his entire career in the dome and his sort of aloofness worked with that team's structure. But the Bears are looking to establish an offense, and develop receivers. Marvin isn't going to be the type that helps the young guys. I feel like it will take a lot to convince him to play in Chicago, and that would be a poor use of cap space. They already had to overpay Pace. Had Orton remained at QB, perhaps he'd work as somebody to help him, but I'd rather Cutler just gain some sort of connection with the younger guys that are going to be the difference between this offense working or not.
  15. I really like this Gregg guy, he's got a bright future.
  16. I don't think Marvin is a fit with this team.
  17. Marmol needs baserunners to raise his adrenalin.
  18. So he goes from leg injury to completely unable to throw strikes. Is it possible he's still banged up?
  19. With as little talent as he has, no day can be considered unlucky after Jim Hendry gave him that contract.
  20. That's very much to be determined. Dempster's last ERA in the neighborhood of 5 was in 2003 with Cincinnati. His highest since then has been 4.80. He may not be great this year, but he's also unlikely to be at a 5.50 ERA. Yeah, it's unlikely. I'm not predicting it's going to happen. But those other things are all far outside the norm. Dempster has been inconsistent throughout his career. He's also coming off a much higher workload than is typical. I have no idea how he's going to end.
  21. I step away for one mini-meeting and next thing you know Soriano walk Theriot grand slam? What the heck is that?
  22. Very true, but high walks totals/rates has been a staple of the Larry Rothschild/Jim Hendry era with Cubs pitchers. It's just an exaggerated version of more of the same.
