So he goes from leg injury to completely unable to throw strikes. Is it possible he's still banged up? -
With as little talent as he has, no day can be considered unlucky after Jim Hendry gave him that contract.

That's very much to be determined. Dempster's last ERA in the neighborhood of 5 was in 2003 with Cincinnati. His highest since then has been 4.80. He may not be great this year, but he's also unlikely to be at a 5.50 ERA. Yeah, it's unlikely. I'm not predicting it's going to happen. But those other things are all far outside the norm. Dempster has been inconsistent throughout his career. He's also coming off a much higher workload than is typical. I have no idea how he's going to end.

Very true, but high walks totals/rates has been a staple of the Larry Rothschild/Jim Hendry era with Cubs pitchers. It's just an exaggerated version of more of the same.

Shark is only going to face one batter today? That's pretty surprising to me.

In partial defense of our pitchers.... walks seem to be up this year all over MLB. I wonder if they've put some pressure on the umpires to call the strike zone as it's described in the rules ???? If that were the case, shouldn't walks be down? The called zone is tighter than the rule book zone.

Well he did it. The money is relatively close to even. The goal was to get more LH, and the only RH bat that was replaced with a new LH bat coming in was DeRosa's. -
4-years in Oct 2008 Jesus, Hendry really owes a lot to outgoing club presidents. Andy extended him like a month before he quit, then Kenney gives him another extension as his company approaches the end of the selling process.

Nonsense. DeRosa's money was not the difference maker. the couple million difference between DeRosa and Miles this year could have been made up in a slightly different contract structure with Bradley. With both Miles and DeRosa off the 2010 books, they'd have had $2+m to factor into next year's payroll budget. -
Why would the sale get rid of Hendry? He got that extension. From the ownership in place. I'm hoping the new owner is smart enough to see what an awful job Jim has done and that basically all he has done is out spend the rest of the division. The extension makes that tremendously unlikely. What year is it through? I'm guessing new ownership gives Hendry this upcoming offseason, and his future will depend on where the team is by next June/July.
