  1. Soriano. Fox or Hoffpauir would replace Soriano in left. Soriano in CF would probably be one of the most amusing things we've ever seen. He was the Cubs' CF in 2007. He played 12 games in CF. I wouldn't exactly call that being the Cubs CF.
  2. Soriano. Fox or Hoffpauir would replace Soriano in left. Soriano in CF would probably be one of the most amusing things we've ever seen. Not around much in '07? Did he end up playing CF in the regular season? I thought they ended the experiment in spring training?
  3. The problem with Wells is he pitches to a lot of contact and much of it is in the air. If he keeps most of that on the ground and has a k rate between 6-7, with minimal walks, he should maintain solid numbers.
  4. Live with just Fuku today, then option Atkins for Fuld. Or just go ahead and do that today if you can.
  5. Well then that is what they should do. They sent down Stevens and brought up Atkins only out of desperation to get a fresh arm. Kevin Gregg has had 3 days off. Marmol has had 2 days off and has pitched only 1 inning in 5 days. Stevens is fresh. Guzman could be pretty close to fresh, but could use another day I guess. Samardzija, Heilman and Marshall should probably get another day off. But Atkins serves no purpose right now and Stevens is probably more valuable to the team.
  6. Putting the likelihood of Wells also contracting Rick Ankiel disease aside... Hill 2006: 26 years old, 99.1 IP, 4.17 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 90 K, 39 BB Hill 2007: 27 years old, 195 IP, 3.92 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 183 K, 63 BB Wells 2009: 26 years old, 95 IP, 2.84 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 60 K, 21 BB At the same point in their careers, Hill never pitched as well for as extended a period of time. Are you kidding me? O.K. In which 15 start stretch did Hill post a 2.84 ERA? I suppose if you sandwich his last 6 or 7 starts in '06 with his first 5 or 6 starts in '07, ignore the playoff start and the six months in between, you could argue Hill outperformed Wells over a similar number of starts. Aside from the overall ridiculousness of your timeframe breakdown, since when is ERA the only way to rate a pitcher?

  8. I don't expect it, but they can. Normally he'd have to spend 10 days in the minors before being called back up, but not if it's to replace a player going on the DL. Earlier this season Fuld was called back up 1 day after being sent down for the same reason. Yes, I know that part of the rule, but my question is does it work when it's a pitcher replacing a position player? If so, it makes the most sense. Stevens hasn't been overworked. He was coming off 2 days in a row, but has 1 day of rest. And Atkins doesn't provide much of anything.
  9. Not really. Prior actually reached the big leagues and had substantial success. He's got 106 career starts, is 42-29 with a 3.51 ERA, 657 IP, 757 K, 223 BB and a career ERA+ of 123. Injuries ruined his career, they didn't prevent it from starting.
  10. It can be a never ending cycle if you combine poor drafting with wasted signings like Operation Shutdown and trading for horrible contracts like Morris. But if this time they actually commit to going with the youth and staying away from worthless veterans, they could make it work.
  11. Can they call Stevens backup to replace Johnson since it's a DL move. Then option Atkins when they callup Fuld?
  12. That's racist, just because a black guy walks into your store doesn't mean...., oh wait like as in to play for them? That's just ridiculous.
  13. It wasn't Morrissey. I know his deformed face and whiny voice. This was a younger guy, and I think it was Teddy. Then there was some old bald dude who I've only seen on that show who basically agreed with him. They were talking about high hopes for the Bears and basically kept repeating, "I don't see it. I don't see it." ah... then there's a decent chance it was Greenstein... or KC Johnson? Greenstein usually has a neater appearance than KC. Either way, they're all morons. Was the old bald dude Sam Smith? Sam Smith is the basketball guy right? It wasn't him. The guy reminds me of some has been standup comedian or something like that. I think they describe him as a radio personality. Anyway, I don't think it was KC because KC has that really awkward tall guy who hasn't quite figured out how to use his body or his voice yet. I'm pretty sure it was just offseason Teddy not shaving until he returns to the college football beat.
  14. It was mostly about the fact that Duke produces a lot more douchebags than smart people. They suck in the sports I pay attention to.

  16. A degree from Duke is supposed to be impressive now? Anyway, speaking of stupid sports personalities, I saw a couple minutes of CTL last night and some unshaven guy, I think maybe Teddy Greenstein was all giddy that now everybody sees what he sees that the Cutler deal wasn't smart and that he'd rather have Orton and a better WR. When these are your comparables, I guess it's not hard to look smart in the sports media business.
  17. What if one calls heads and the other calls tails?
  18. In the world of sports talk radio, anyone who often uses VORP in player analysis is a stathead. He's really smart and really good for the most part. I tried listening for a few months a while back, and I wouldn't say he's smart. He's a baseball idiot and a mostly rational football guy, but not smart.
  19. Obviously this is a mutli-team trade that has Bradley going to Detroit, Dunn filling in at right and Granderson playing center for the Cubs.
  20. I hate you. I just listened to these idiots say the Cubs should trade Fox for a crappy left handed reliever because there's a chance that guy might get a big out some day. They're right about his lack of a future in the NL and the fact that you should trade him while his value is high, though (if you can get something worth a damn). They weren't right about anything. There's no reason he can't have a future on an NL team, or that the Cubs should get what they can right now. If they can't get anything significant for a guy who is hitting great in his first real exposure to major league pitching and holding his own in the field, there's no reason whatsoever to deal him. They are going to turn around and spend 5 times as much on a much lesser bench option.

  22. That probably couldn't have gone any better. Wells gets a win, lots of guys get hits, and rest. Atkins doesn't implode. All that was missing was some rest for Koyie Hill. I don't like him going into Miami with no rest.
  23. Wells batting to get the ovation (and save the bench) then not coming out for 8th?
