  1. Exactly, if Fox was involved they would have pulled him. I swear people dont think sometimes Or they could be waiting until the game is over. If a trade is done or pretty close to being done, they pull the guy during the game so he doesnt get hurt. Unless they don't have a short bench and the guy is the only backup catcher.
  2. How will he be a loogy though when he's better against righties? We acquired the wrong left-handed reliever. Grabow in his career has been better vs leftys Not really, he's fairly mediocre against both. The last 3 years hes held leftys to a 652 OPS against, thats better than mediocre You said career. He's pretty even for both.
  3. How is this team a triple machine all of a sudden?

  5. Gregg has been better than Wood this year and we could not have afforded it Why can't you people tell the difference between offering arbitration and insisting on bringing him back. I said all along it was the smart thing to do to let somebody else sign him even if I personally wanted him back. But it was stupid to not offer arbitration.
  6. There's no logic in defending not offering arbitration. It was a stupid move. There's plenty (cost, health history), you're just refusing to see it. I'm refusing to be an idiot and assume he would have taken it. Arbitration is 1 year. It would not have crippled this team by any stretch of the imagination.
  7. Sure, it's not ideal. But high payroll teams can easily get away with it and succeed. Not with the Cubs' circumstances at the time. When the team isn't being sold, yes, though even then it wouldn't be smart. That's some really expensive sentiment. It was stupid to not offer arbitration. Pretending otherwise is ridiculous. It was a very small chance he would accept, when he was looking for, and got a longterm contract. Had he accepted, they could have easiliy afforded it. You don't waste money on Miles and Gregg.
  8. The morons going to send Jackson and Fox to the Pirates for these 2 pieces of crap, isnt he? Goony mentioned earlier in the thread that the Fox for a reliever rumor was brought up by a caller. Not a caller. The guests on CTL and boers/bernstein Oh, sorry. Was it a legit rumor or just an idea they were throwing around? It was more or less a "should they do it" discussion and all paid "experts" said absolutely they should.

  12. Have they actually used important people in these two blowout games? You would hope not... Do they have important people?
  13. Gorzelanny? Why? Check out his 3 year numbers vs leftys they are pretty damn good That's probably because they are dominated by his good 2007 season.
  14. Can people set aside the player-crushes and look at this realistically for a second? Realistically it's ridiculous to pretend not offering arbitration was a good idea.
  15. How many times has he traded for Grabow? He gave up a draft pick when going after Latroy Hawkins. He usually signs free agent relievers, he hasn't had to trade for many. But just because he didn't overspend on Harden I'm supposed to feel confident he won't do that with a freaking reliever he doesn't need? Acquiring him is overpaying. It's up to Hendry to prove he won't overpay. I don't have to assume he'll do the right thing. Nobody is saying he is good at signing people. Nobody. I don't know why you keep bringing his screwups in that arena up. He has over payed twice ever in trades when acquiring a major league player. Only one didn't turn out well. He is pretty good at not overpaying in trades. I don't see how this is hard to understand. But the point is he hasn't made a ton of these trades either. Why you feel like you can only talk about trades involving giving up prospects for veterans as the only way to judge whether or not he's great at getting value is beyond me. You insist on asking how many times he's overpaid for Grabow when he hasn't traded for Grabows before. He's made plenty of stupid deals. And much of his failures have come in opportunity cost, where he concentrates so much effort into finding a niche player for specific perceived need, he fails to actually improve the team (see 2008 offseason). Tom Gorzallany is still around?
  16. You absolutely no clue how much Wood would have made if he accepted, do you? This. He was looking for and got a multi year deal. Why are people assuming he would accept arbitration?

  18. Remember when almost everyone except me thought that cutting ties with Wood and not offering him arbitration and acquiring Gregg to replace Marmol in the setup role as Marmol (inevitably) closed was a terrible idea? I do. You thought not offering arbitration to Wood was a good idea? And you are bragging about it?
  19. Why not? He's an idiot. And he does it all the time. He doesn't need a freaking LH reliever yet we all know that when he gets his mind set on something he will get it and overpay for it. How many times has he overpayed in terms of prospects in trades? 2 or 3? Gregg (Ceda has been hurt all season and Gregg has been pretty good) Wuertz (completely indefensible) Pierre (Even that got us Donaldson who was the second piece in the Harden trade, but I won't try to justify this trade) His entire MO is to overpay for everything. I will worry about him overpaying every time he talks to another team. It's what he does.
  20. Depends on what you want confirmed. Did some talking head on some sport show say, "we might trade Fox for a reliever" - probably. Is there any chance of us trading Fox for Grabow straight up? No, Hendry isn't exactly golden when it comes to free agents, but he is fairly good when it comes to making trades... Somebody on comcast suggested they should trade Fox for a reliever. I heard that in the two minutes I foolishly listened to the Score yesterday as well.

  22. Are you really judging a prospects-for-big leaguer trade 6 months after the trade? Especially when the 3 prospects have performed rather well in the minors? Are you really saying you can't criticize a trade of a player when the team went out and replaced said player with Aaron Freaking Miles? But that's different. That's a criticism of a free agent signing of the replacement player (especially when the likes of Orlando Hudson were available this offseason). No, it isn't different. It was a transaction where he replaced one player with another. Trading DeRosa was not a problem, getting relievers for him and then not having a suitable backup to 3B on the roster and having Aaron Freaking Miles signed to 2 years is even worse.
