  1. Meh. You could probably outrun him. He's also not really big.
  2. Probably mostly the bruise, but they wanted to give him rest and that was cut short the other day.
  3. I feel like Stevens has warmed up in every game he's been on the roster. Lou appears to prefer Stevens over Samardzija, but Shark stays? He's awful. He wasn't nearly as good as people thought he was last year, and he's gotten worse the more major league hitters have seen his stuff. Is Hendry overruling Lou?
  4. Like CCP said, though, Miles has been incredibly unlucky this year. His LD% is 19%, one point lower than his career (20%). But his BABIP is .236, 73 points lower than his career (.309). What constitutes a linedrive off Mile's bat?
  5. Lots of media guys have taken shots at him. I have to wonder if he's a potential camp casualty. Probably depends on Tillman's health, but man he sure seems to have taken he money and run.
  6. The problem is you almost have to use 6-men to get him extra rest. This time through he can go on 1 extra day of rest with the normal 5. But the next time he'll have to go on 4 days rest again unless somebody else pitches in between. Then, he'll have to go on 4 days rest again. And then there's the risk of somebody else needing a day off or two. I'm not saying go to a strict 6-man rotation, but rather keep a 6th starter around to slot into some starts here and there when needed.
  7. Sheffield gets a hit to the gap and gets injured.
  8. Harden absolutely needs the extra rest. I don't think they need to go 6-man from here on out, but a couple weeks of giving a couple guys some extra rest is more than reasonable.
  9. 7-0 STL goes head hunting on Wright, but misses. Warnings to everybody by Tony doesn't get why.
  10. Yeah, aside from all the injuries, Citi Field's effect on Wright's power is probably the biggest story involving this team. I have to think that after two straight collapses and what is turning out to be a disastrous season, the Mets will strongly consider blowing up the roster. One of their better players might become available. If the Cubs could somehow get Jose Reyes, that would be sweet. I know some Mets fans want to get rid of him ASAP. But he's typically a 155 game SS who is a significant upgrade to Theriot. Then the midget brigade can platoon at 2B.
  11. I don't think Miles will be taking much PT from the Fontenot/Baker platoon. Now he might be in at SS tonight with Theriot's bruise on his arm. Yeah, I'd have to guess Theriot is going to get a day off. Miles at SS is pretty disappointing though. He may not hit any worse than Blanco, but he can't really play the position. I wish that thought about sending down the redundant Fuld before magically DLing Blanco, when he's the only legit backup SS on the roster. Fuld is the only legit backup CF on the roster. He's not completely redundant. I tend to agree about Blanco/Miles. At 2B, Miles's offensive advantage wins out because he's decent defensively there. At SS, Blanco has such a huge advantage defensively (from good to very good in his case to horrible for Miles) that Blanco is a better SS option. And if they weren't going to get rid of Blanco, then they were going to have to find another person to go besides Fuld+ the pitcher that will be leaving. But Fuld is not a legit major leaguer, and it's much more important to have a guy who can play SS instead of a dedicated backup CF. There are realistic options for CF, including sending Soriano over and playing Fox or somebody else in left.
  12. Pujols hit on arm, bases loaded for Holliday.
  13. Mark DeRosa with a DeRosa special, pop up to the right side. Men on 2nd/3rd, 2 outs for Pujols.

  15. what the heck is a hawksworth?
  16. I forget, did we ever come to a conclusion about exactly how much better Joe Crede is than Aramis?
  17. How? 6 starts in AA, 3 starts in AAA, 19 starts in the majors, 167 pro innings which was 30+ more innings than he threw the year before, at the age of 21. He was in the major leagues less than a year after he was drafted. Threw 124 pitches in his 4th major league start, and had 7 outings with more than 110 pitches, including 4 in a row that ended with a 135 pitch outing. He had only 5 outings under 100 pitches. He finished the year on the DL, in what could be construed as protecting him, but he was hardly babied that year. He was thrown into the fire with a lame duck manager and then an interim moron that was more concerned about trying to win the job than the longterm healt of the franchise. I was thinking of how they shut him down for about the last month of the season (if I recall they put him on the DL with a groin injury that really wouldn't have kept him out that long under normal circumstances). Yeah, but that was after he was used a lot as a rookie and under the watch of an incompetent desperate interim manager. It was hardly babying. And the season was lost long before he went on the DL.
  18. The Mets are a clusterpuck. They both started well and have plummeted. The Mets fell from a higher high, but Cincy is at a lower low. I'd say the Mets are technically a little better, but they are such a mess it's hard to be definitive.
  19. What do you mean realistically? I'm going to guess Harden is going to have to miss a start or two, and he should get some extra rest. Wells probably needs a break soon. And we don't even know how Lilly will be when he returns. Zambrano is always an internet session or spoiled banana away from missing a start. I think they need all the starters they can get and should keep all those guys available for starting the rest of the way, and shouldn't even consider for a second the idea of having Dempster close right now.
  20. If Gregg can't pull it together and we have 5 other reliable starters I wouldn't be opposed to giving it a shot. I don't care where the money has been spent it's all been spent with the intent to win a World Series so I say use it as such. If Dempster is pitching well, he's worth more to the team starting. And Gregg has been fine for most of the season, at least as good as Demspter would be.
  21. Is their pitcher dead?
  22. It was quality, but I was too upset over the anti-Cutler talk to be entertained.
