  1. They do not have to be set. They can't cause the line to move with their movements though. There was one blown call by the refs when he was dancing. But other than that they just looked like an undisciplined line that knew they were in for a fun day of QB killing. The push of Cutler was relatively harmless, although it could have been called just based on the fact that there was no need and the whistle was clearly blown well before it. If the linemen weren't just pansies they may have tried to fight the man. Oh, and screw you Lovie for another horrible round of timeout/challenge roulette and downplaying just how much of a freaking superstar Cutler had to be to keep the team in that game You were terrible Lovie. As dumb as you've ever been on gameday.
  2. Thank you, finally somebody stepped up. The only reason I start them is because I'm sick of discussing the crap game and want to move on. It is a 3 point line right now. I HATE PRIMETIME GAMES. I want to sleep and regular Sunday games are the perfect excuse to get day drunk and asleep by 9.
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the crew blame him for one penalty that was clearly by Williams? They said Davis as soon as the flag was thrown, but even after the replays showed it was an interior linemen and the refs called it on Williams (or maybe Webb) the crew was blaming Davis. Jeebus H Christmas that offensive line is terrible. I know it was asking a lot for Tice to turn them into something decent, but he sure as hell hasn't done a [expletive] thing to make them better. Angelo is an incompetent mess. If you switched QBs in that game, Detroit wins by 50.
  4. I don't really have a problem with the line shuffling. They've had a huge turnover in the roster in two years, and some of their key guys have missed lots of time to injury. It can be helpful to have everybody experience playing together at some time. Q has always shuffled the lines and it didn't exactly hurt them a couple years ago.
  5. The minute they clinched the series in Atlanta was the most awesome time. That was something we had never seen before, it was huge, and it was a hell of a lot of fun.

  8. I really don't think Theo has to do a lot of selling at this point. I do agree that it's tough to read too much into the length of time. It could mean any number of things, including Ricketts being used to drawn out negotiations, and the fact that we are still a long ways away from free agency, when you absolutely need your guy.
  9. One concern with Kane at center is it would open him up to more physical contact out there so having Carcillo around could be very helpful.
  10. It makes a good sandwich, but that's about it.
  11. My interest in this guy plummetted after his manager pulled a Dusty the other night.
  12. Did you not read what he actually said? He gave a complete ass covering statement that didn't say a damn thing.
  13. That was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy later. Pretty sure Lynch had autonomy for the most part. They brought in McRae and Navarro...traded for Servais and Gonzalez early in the 95 season. That's all I can come up with off the top of my head. Also traded for Zeile late that season. I don't think the situations are that similar because I think whoever gets brought in, if some sort of title of President is handed out, will still be the GM. There's a few big differences. MacPhail was brought in to completely overhaul everything baseball related with the Cubs, and probably the biggest thing was drafting and developing players. MacPhail was a traditional "baseball man", the son and grandson of baseball execs, it was rumored almost from day one that the next step he envisioned for himself was commissioner. He was very much an overseer and not the GM. He was in charge of hiring scouting directors, GMs, developmental people, and setting the tone of the organization. Ricketts has made it fairly clear he's happy with where the drafting and developing situation is going, and he wants a new GM. He has made it clear that that guy will be the baseball boss overall, but it's not like when MacPhail came in.
  14. it is certainly possible that i am giving him too much credit, but clearly gun laws are important to the guy. illinois has some of the worst gun laws in the nation, i dont find it a far stretch that someone would choose to not live there for that reason. the second amendment states that our right to bear arms "shall not be infringed," many people in this country take that very seriously and are more than willing to take less money to live somewhere with more relaxed gun laws. EDIT: quote fail define worst
  15. It is obvious, actually, that Ricketts very much trusted the guy since he kept him on after telling him he was making a change to run the team, in order to sign draft picks and guide the team through the trading deadline. That shows a hell of a lot of trust. He just didn't want him to be the GM after this season.
  16. Ricketts said he had "100 percent confidence in Jim" on June 15 before firing him (secretly no less!) on July 22. Whether we like it or not, I don't think Ricketts always means what he says publicly. He feeds pablum to reporters in order to avoid public feuds while conducting his business behind closed doors. You have to say you have confidence in the GM if you are keeping him around for the specific purpose of tricking your draft picks into signing with the guy that drafted them. Saying you have confidence in the guy is not a direct statement about his future employment.
  17. You can easily have smart front office surrounding your GM without having an unnecessary baseball person as president presiding over your GM who makes all the baseball decisions. That type of president doesn't serve much of a role.
  18. Given how often Ricketts has talked about the unnecessary system of having a baseball guy to oversee his baseball guy, does anybody really think Ricketts would hire Epstein as president and another guy as GM? It goes against what he has said he wants to do. While he played his cards close to his vest with firing Hendry, it's not like that move directly contradicted what he repeatedly said he wanted to do.
  19. What an idiot. He contends against a team that has consistently spent $40-80m more than his team with a fan base that absolutely demands constants influx of talent. The guy has been working with a 40% disadvantage and contended very well.
  20. Probably has something to do with the string of wins in a row and the setup for a potential letdown. I hope that happens, but Calvin Johnson stands in the way. My cbssports poll says the public is picking Detroit 51% to 49% at a 6.5 point spread. The fact that the masses seem to at least slightly favor Detroit at the wider margin suggests the actual big money guys have hit on the Bears.
  21. That would go against the "make your next manager the opposite of your current manager" theory.
  22. What the what. This line is down to 5 now. From 7 to 5, somebody is putting lots of money on the Bears.
  23. It happens nearly every year but I still get giddy waking up out here the morning after the Yankees have been eliminated.
  24. The White Sox figured out that managers don't really matter, unfortunately for them, the GM does, and there's is a whack job.
