  1. nothing you haven't heard before
  2. How about Geo Soto too? Hm... no thanks? He's 29 years old and he isn't good behind the plate or at the plate. He hit .202 with RISP last year in 114 at-bats. I missed this nonsense here for a little while. It's good to have stupid statements made to balance out the genius that is going to be Chicago Cubs baseball.
  3. They don't have Theo anymore. I'd be surprised if anyone left in that front office knew what OBP was much less WAR. They still have Cherington and Bill James don't forget (unless Theo is able to bring James with him). Isn't Bill James just an independant consultant?
  4. smashing pumpkins are my all-time favorite band, but he needs to stfu and get a better drummer and stop writing gay lyrics. Gay lyrics? have you heard any of the new stuff? I think it's more [expletive] than gay.
  5. Clearly Boston hasn't done their homework on the Cubs system. We don't have any Jewish prospects?
  6. If he talked to Theo at any point prior to asking permission they have a case. The firing of Hendry has nothing to do with it.
  7. While it is entirely possible Ricketts could have pulled off some tampering, when he fired Hendry Boston was in 1st place by 2 games with the 2nd best record in baseball. When they announced the firing Boston was a .5 game out of 1st, and 8.5 games up in the Wild Card with the 3rd best record in baseball. It's not like they fired him as Boston was crumbling. Epstein's job status wasn't really an issue until very late in the season.
  8. I think you underestimate the stupidity and insanity of the Boston fan base. Chicago has its idiots, NY is incredibly demanding. But Boston has all the idiocy of Chicago plus the demands of NY.
  9. I don't care, I was just commenting about how he wasn't all that good and somebody got all pissy about it.
  10. Exactly. Exactly what? Exactly wrong. If they won the WS maybe you could make a case, but Edmonds already went right back to being the Cardinal douche everybody knew he was. Wow. I expected more of you. More what? More pretending Jim Edmonds did more than play really well for a few months? If you are going to keep pretending he was a better Cub than Ramirez has been, fine. But that's idiotic.
  11. Not sure why the other thread is locked, but I feel this series of events wasn't addressed enough following the last game. That was as bad as I've ever seen Lovie and Lovie is as dumb as any professional coach can be. From the deadspin jambaroo "coach on the hot seat" section. http://deadspin.com/5849204/a-not+at+all-homoerotic-tribute-shoulder-pads
  12. Why are you such a pissy baby? The word hype doesn't have to mean everybody on the national airwaves is discussing it Favre style. The Chicago media was all giddy about the move. It was played up along with the Peppers/Manumanumanululu/Whoever that RB was trifecta of awesome that came in free agency. There was hype and high hopes, and yet Chris Harris has been nothing special and he was absolutely god awful in the last game.

  14. I think the guy hasn't been nearly as good as the hype that surrounded his return, and that was about as bad a game as you can have and still be employeed in the NFL. He was lost and incredibly slow. He's been good in a vacuum and better than whatever hype surrounded his return (because there wasn't any). Are you kidding me? People were all giddy about "righting the wrong" of trading him in the first place.
  15. Has a Chicago paper broken any part of this situation?
  16. He has very little shot at being "very" good. He's got a shot at being a decent contributor. And if you have to give up a prospect who is actually a prospect, he's your guy. When you trade a guy that doesn't mean you are giving up on him, it means you prefer the value you are receiving from the other team.
  17. Yeah, if Ramirez was a middling earner (or a always go for the biggest offer guy) throughout his career I would assume he would do what he could to cash out. He was making $6m at at 26 and has made at least $100m so far in his career. He's going to make a lot next year regardless of what kind of deal he signs, and he's given every indication that he's the type of guy that would like to a) play for the Cubs, b) play for a winning Cubs team, c) walk away when he's washed up, and d) accept a shorter term deal than the biggest one he could get. Sure, the strictly financial decision is going to mean he's gone, but assuming Theo wants him around, I'm guessing he can sell Ramirez on trying to win big sometime in the next 2 years with the Cubs.

  19. That is true. But as much as they despise Lackey, you probably could sell it to the fans.
  20. Breaking news, employee thinks fellow employee might not get fired.

  22. That's harsh. I wouldn't go that far.
