    Wouldn't a lack of baseball only experience, specifically time to work on it with trained professional teachers, contribute to mechanical swing issues?

    While that's possible, hasn't Kaplan been part of the Crane bashing during the past 2 years? I vaguely remember him talking about Kenney as part of the problem (moreso than Hendry) and I'd wonder about him talking about a source that way.

    Yeah, that made no sense then and makes no sense now. There were a couple people who theorized that he'd feel obligated to fix the mess he created, but I think they were just Boston-centric morons without much reason behind them. Boston was ripping apart at the seams and ownership was all about placing blame, it seemed obvious that Theo was sick of their shenanigans.

    Of course the Cubs could look to be in fantastic shape by next season and not needing to pay huge money for a president to install between Ricketts and his baseball men.

    I can't think off the top of my head what I read to make me believe it, but it sounded to me like he was had the idea to chase Epstein since Hendry was canned. I realize the name was bandied about at the time, but Epstein was a huge longshot. I thought he didn't move to the front of the list until Boston collapsed.

    I keep hearing Boston people talk about how the Cubs have been after Theo for a very long time. It didn't sound like it was referring to just this specific process, but insinuation that Ricketts targetted Theo from day one and was going to get him. My impression is that while Ricketts obviously likes Boston people, he plan was to go after underlings, and it wasn't until Boston's collapse and the carpet bombing by their ownership that Tom decided to pounce on the big prize himself.

    It's not just specific people who were hurt by aggressive promotions (although Josh Vitters trade value probably was), but there weren't people helped by it either. Aggressively moving guys along when they didn't need to be and had little to gain from it has contributed to a lackluster minor league system.

    Neither team has shied away from doubling down with the 1B/DH type of hitter. True, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the Red Sox go hard after either one with Ortiz likely gone, but the Yankees...I don't know. They've got Tex at 1B and ARod seems destined for the DH spot sooner rather than later. Another thing with their logjam is that it always seems one of the guys is on the DL anyway, so there isn't much bench time for the studs. But I see them going hard after pitching.

    That was all sorts of fun last night. You typically don't see just a fast paced game this early in this season, or maybe I'm just not used to it.

    If memory serves, FJM really went after people who kept playing up grinderball as the reason they won, and ignoring that they hit 200 home runs. Yeah, they said they won with small ball and without power but they had 200 HR and 4 200 IP starters with ERAs below 4.
