Also: http://espn.go.com/nhl/preview2011/story/_/id/7061058/stanley-cup-awards-predictions I always did like Barry Melrose. It's annoying, but if you want to read a specific story it works fine. And why is Linda Cohn an NHL expert?

    Just listened to the Simmons podcast, he said, "I think a lot of people would think it's a division game, it's going to be close, 6, but I'm going to go with 7.5." Since when is 6 points a close line? Then he listed them as a possible upset pick, which is weird considering he thought the line should be even higher.

    With 25 games to make-up against those other teams in the divisions. It's going to take a hell of a lot of work, and a good deal of luck, to turn this around in one year. Not impossible, very far from easy and/or a sure thing.

    Is there any sort of logic behind what they're saying? Or just standard B&B-ery They aren't the first to bring it up. There's some logic behind it. They've been saying all along they want to emulate Boston and part of what Boston did was negotiations with politicians to eventually create new revenue streams with Fenway.

    He's also 32, 33 next year and just put up a 66 ERA+ over a full season....not to mention a 1.6 WHIP and a 1.93 K/BB ratio. No, thank you. I'd rather hire somebody else than take on "fixing" him. Yes, he's 32 and coming off a bad year. That's one bad year in an otherwise stable career. He's not a crappy old player.

    John Lackey isn't a crappy old player. He's been a pretty reliable good player and he's 31. I'd strongly consider taking him on.

    They are useful, but they aren't cheap. So if you have a limited budget and needs elshwere it's just not feasible. True. However, considering I think Wilson and Sabathia are pipe dreams (not so with Pujols/Fielder), the Cubs should be looking for reliable for the time being. Seriously, the rotation is: Garza Dempster Z (but probably not) Wells ? Overall, that's neither good nor reliable. And it's likely to get worse, since I think it's a fair assumption that Zambrano is gone. As far as Wells goes, he's gotten worse the last two years and was probably always smoke-and-mirrors. In that case, when you have two reliable starters, you have to do something. The smart thing to do is keep Zambrano and go out and get the best guy you can find.

    Yes, I realize the problem with the stadium. That doesn't taken anything away from what I just said. The business model was to win on the cheap to build a fanbase and yet they still couldn't sell out a playoff game. Tampa fans can't even sell out the Bucs who are playoff contenders, and that team has been around for 4 decades and play in a nice stadium. All this should make Friedman think long and hard about sticking with the organization and maybe entice him to think about the Cubs.

    The Lions opened as 7 point favorites, it quickly went to 6.5 and now it is down to 5.5. Not sure what that means, but last week's Bears line went down about a point and they failed to cover.

    Tampa's business model is what it is at this point. I think the only thing that would change his mind was if he knows something definitive about the fate of a new stadium. Otherwise, the Rays will always have a small payroll and rely on revenue sharing to break even. The expectations were that at least with a winner on the field they would be able to put butts in seats, and yet they couldn't even sell out a playoff game. The business model was try and win on the cheap, create a fanbase, build a stadium. They've won on the cheap, there is no fanbase, and the odds of getting a stadium built in this environment with no support from the public are pretty small.

    We have little to no mainstream media in town who knows how to cover hockey. Rozner is awful. I mean, really just completely terrible. Never read him for any cognitive thought on anything. Most guys just talk about vague concepts such as momentum and sending message and all that other garbage. Chris Kuc is decent, I'd put him at the top but there's a significant drop off after him. For good hockey thoughts and analysis you really need to read blogs and message boards. Places like Second City Hockey and Fifth Feather were all up in arms over those Keith comments. I think Tim Sassone is much better than Chris Kuc. Rozner is a columnist, he doesn't cover anything, he just stirs pots.

    I like that Tampa's owner was crying about attendance and finances today. Friedman has to at least consider the possibility that the entire business model of that franchise is at risk. On the other hand, having a GM of my favorite team who is younger than me would freak me the F out.

    I don't see any way the Bears are gonna get a big name WR while Angelo is around. He did sign the biggest name on the free agent market one year. He has spent a number of 2nd and 3rd round picks on WR. I think he would, I just don't think he knows what he's doing on offense. Are you referring to Moose? And if so, he was the biggest name that year? I remember that he was coming off a really nice year and a decent career, but that's crazy. Yeah, if he means Moose, I disagree. Looking back at the free agents that offseason, Plaxico Burress was the top WR free agent. Muhsin was the biggest name coming off a pro bowl season leading the league in yards and TDs. He was old and wasn't going to have much of a career after that, but when the Bears signed him out of the gate it was the biggest news in the NFL. Burress was poised for a better future, but he was coming off disappointing seasons. Moose signed 6/30 with 10m guaranteed, Plaxico signed 6/25 with 8.5 m guaranteed. Say what you will about the choice. The Bears obviously went after a big name WR that year.

    One time? Cutler has not played well this year. But the receivers and line are the problem and the primary reason why he has not played well. He sailed two balls for picks against GB, one of which was negated by a penalty. Then of course he sailed one for a pick against Carolina on Sunday. Yeah. Cutler has not played well this year.     Forte has accounted for 1/3 of Cutler's yards so far, which falls more on the shoulders of the line and Cutler than it does the receivers. Thus, there is no way you can convince me that any of the other options would have 200+ yards by now, so we might as well agree to disagree like you said. when the WR's don't get separation or repeatedly drop balls, Forte does start to account for many more yards. That DOES fall on the receivers shoulders. Then bounces off those shoulders and either onto the ground or into the opponents' hands.
