  1. If we're talking Marshall for Church straight up, we'd better jump all over that. I'm sure other names have circulated, but it's worth it to me. that was posted 3 days ago, the bad news was posted 3 hours ago
  2. I come bearing bad news... Link Not cool. Not cool at all. Also in the article... HA!
  3. To be blunt? Because Frank Robinson was off his rocker
  4. Exactly. It's not their fault. That would imply that this was a mistake or accidental. This was their plan all along. They'd sign him if by some off-chance he took a very reasonable deal, but in reality their intent was just to keep the Yanks from getting him. I always had a feeling he wouldn't be signed. I think it's a horrible strategy plan, personally. Not so much that it stops the Yankees from getting him. I think from an ethical pint of view it's horrible. We got one of the most exciting pitching names in recent memory given the chance to come to the states and pitch in the majors in one of the largest market teams arena. But the team got greedy and wanted to play keep away. This is a guy who has had hopesand dreams of performing in the majors since he was a kid, and now he got jerked around just so the Red Sox could play a stupid game to prevent their rivals from getting him. I REALLY wanted Matsuzaka to play this year. I was looking forward to it, I didn't care which team it was for. The guy got his hopes up and now they're gonna be crushed. How would you feel if your dream as to come play here and you find out that the Boston Red Sox bid $51 million for your rights first and foremost. 1) It'd give you great expectations that people take you seriously 2) You'd realize that you'd arrived in the majors, cause if someone wants you THAT bad, you're getting in. Nope, sorry, we're gonna short change you, take it or go back to Japan. IN YOUR FACE, NEW YORK! This really pisses me off, I used to have a little respect for the Red Sox, this just makes me completely hate them. I really hope the Sox make me eat my words and sign him before his deadline is up, he doesn't deserve to be shut out like this. God knows what it could do to his mental state. What if some of the Japanese fans don't welcome him back with open arms. He did just try and put Japan on the backburners for bigger and better things, and a lot of them were upset he's leaving, now he's gotta walk back in like nothing happened. Sorry, I just feel for the guy. Really wish/hope he gets signed. maybe thats just me though
  5. I've already mentioned twice in the last hour the ideas of trading Jones, not Murton, to the A's for someone like Blanton. A's are looking for an outfielder to replace Payton. Regardless, if we can get someone like Crawford in Murton's place I wouldn't mind to see him go... but at the same time, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that it will never happen, so... but I think a deal with the A's could be made regardless for something. They appear interested in Floyd. We should pick him up and offer one of our other OF'ers to replace Payton.
  6. I posted this in the Jones for Jennings trade thread... but Oakl;and needs an OF'er to replace Jay Payton and are looking to sign Floyd. If we swipe Floyd, Jones could be a valuable trade piece. They're kind of stacked with OF'ers as it is, but if they want an OF'er along the lines of Payton, why not offer Jones who is better? Perhaps they'd be willing to part with Javier Herrera, who looks to be a similar version of Felix Pie, yet is the 6th top prospect in their organization according to BA. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/H/Javier-Herrera-1.shtml At the same time, perhaps we could spin him or Pie off in a trade for quality pitching. It seems as if Pie could net a better pitcher than Jennings. And Herrera is damn good looking at those stats, and is the same age. If not one of their young OF prospects, maybe one of their young pitchers (Joe Blanton, Brad Halsey) could be had in a spruced up Jones package Just talking and throwing it out there.
  7. Oakland needs an OF to replace Payton... Jones and a prospect or two for one of their younger pitchers? If we swipe Floyd away from them, we could be in the market to trade a Jones package to them for one of their young pitchers (Brad Halsey, Joe Blanton, etc.) or one of their younger OF'ers who they obviously aren't going to play..... like Javier Herrera, who is the same age as Pie, and on par as just as good a player. Maybe it couldn't hurt to see if they'd be interested in Jones for something we need. Just throwing that out there.
  8. Crap. We're doomed! J/K, solid signing. And I too, was hoping they'd bring in Kolb as well. If I remember correctly I once saw Kolb blow a save for ATL by allowing 2 straight walks, a wild pitch, and a throwing error. There might've been a fielding error in there too. To which my friend said "Why does this man play professional baseball?"
  9. So who on the bullpen do we DFA? Dempster? Ohman? Wood? Wuertz? Eyre? Novoa? Howry? Cotts? None of those guys have any options remaining. I don't know if I'm the only one, and this is just me talking, but I'm not much of a fan of Novoa. In fact, I wish he weren't wearing a Cub uniform, truth be told. I'm also not much of a fan of Ohman. Wouldn't mind getting rid of one of them to make room for Miller EDIT: Assuming Miller comes back healthy, that is and there's no spot in the rotation for him
  10. I'd rather move Miller to the bullpen. He's got the most potential for injury of the bunch with the lowest upside. Out of him and Prior, Prior's upside is leaps and bounds better. Not to mention that, IMO, Hill's talent and potential far exceeds anything Wade Miller can accomplish in a Cubs uniform
  11. THE ROYALS ARE RUINING BASEBALL!!!! They need to give teams like the Yankees and Red Sox a chance
  12. Didn't see this posted anywhere ARE YOU KIDDING? The Cubs don't want to move Marmol for him?!?!?! Don't get me wrong, I like Marmol and his potential, but he's not going to be an ace any time soon, and if Hendry has his way he'll have a rotation that doesn't involve him or any of his rookie pals from last year. Move him for Church! Hell, take him and Marshall if you want for all I care! We need someone like Church more than we'll need someone like Marmol or Marshall
  13. But he's a career .340OBP guy from the lead-off spot. And had a .368OBP from the lead-off spot last year. Other than that... Keith Law's take on the Lylly signing, not that it's matters, but just throwing it out there...
  14. Official now... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2689724 5 years.... yeesh
  15. oh, I thought he meant who could we look at to still trade, not who was going to be the PTBNL, my bad
  16. Has Rothschild been able to turn anything around with anyone besides they're direction away from the DL? [/cheapshot sarcasm]
  17. Crap. Garland and Oswalt. Carlos Lee. Crap. Garland could get lit up in that park. Garland IS going to get lit up in that park. Jon Garland is the quintessential product of what goes right with great run support. He's not the stud pitcher a lot of people think he is. He's not awful either, but he's not THAT good
  18. Hmmmmmm.... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2689475
  19. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/features/262799.html Their Top 20 prospects for 2007 from Baseball America. Pretty sure none of them are on their 40-man Erbe and Reimold look to be good to look after
  20. Go after Loney if we don't go after Church? Don't know what we'd give though, plus he's young and unproven, so he may not be a target. Just a thought. If this has bene posted, my apologies, disregard/delete
  21. Unsure if this had been posted as well... link FWIW. I'm on the Church bandwagon, and would like to see him in a Cubs uni
  22. Apparently Lilly turned down a Blue Jays offer that would've given him $5MM more extra, not that I really give a crap... Don't know if it has been posted, fwiw
