  1. I mentioned it in the Polls section under the mascot poll, but thought I'd post it here to in case it got lost between the pages. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hruby/061204 Definitely changed my perspective on mascots... also gave me a backup plan in case nothing ever goes right in my life. I can still learn how to be a mascot and make bank
  2. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hruby/061204 Interesting read on ESPN today. Long, but very interesting. Kind of gives you a new found respect for mascots
  3. We should just throw in Izturis and get Hawpe too. Although I'd want a prospect too. Izturis has won a gold glove, ya know. I agree with that wholeheartedly. I think we're getting the shaft on this one. We're givinmg up two players, one of which is a corner OF'er whose bat could be greatly valued on the trade market and we're only getting Jason Jennings out of it? 1) It's a price swap 2) It fills one hole and creates another (insert immature joke here) I like your non-chalant idea of requesting a prospect. And you know what? I'd aim high. Troy Tulowitzki, SS prospect. Blocked by Clint Barmes at SS and Kaz Matsui/Jaimie Carroll at 2B (granted, Barmes completely sucked last year). Throw Izturis in the deal, who needs him? Tulowitzki is the best infield defender in the Rockies minor league system, and he knows how to hit. Something Izturis can't do. I know I'm reaching here, but I don't like this trade idea, I feel like we're getting the shaft for some reason. We should get a prospect from one of the two teams
  4. On ESPN now... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2686441
  5. The outs he makes by striking out are already accounted for in his OBP and SLG, therefore they cannot negate whatever OBP and SLG he has at the end of the season. The cookie stand counts as an eatery, the eatery is apart of the food court! Eateries that operate within the designated square downstairs count as food court. Anything outside, of said designated square, counts as an autonomous unit for mid-mall snacking. Snoogans.

  7. Here it is again: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2686240
  8. That's the problem with Dunn, it's not that his K-rate is high, his K-Rate is EXTREMELY high. What makes it worse is that his defense is downright AWFUL. Arguably... no wait, scratch that, THE WORST OUTFIELDER IN THE GAME. Bar-none. We can't move him to 1st. His HR and OBP would be a welcome addition, but we can't afford to have the worst defensive outfield in the majors, one of them being a guy who is really only in the majors because he can hit home runs and that's it. The only positive I see outside his HR/OBP potential is that he's only 27 and has yet to hit his prime years. I say pass on Dunn. We already had a free-swinging home run hitter on our team. In my opinion we don't really need that much more power. Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez will provide plenty. Murton and Barrett will supplement it well enough. We don't need Dunn, he would be an embarassment, the fans would tear him apart after each strikeout
  9. Way to go Texas, trying to bring in Zito to one of the most notorious hitters parks in the entire major leagues. That'll be a solid investment. I can see the 2008 headlines now: John Daniels fired as Texas GM
  10. Schmidt's injuries though haven't been to the effect of our own pitchers histories. He's never started less than 29 games and never more than 32 over the last 5 years, so he's averaged 30.2 starts a year over that span. I can live with that, where do I sign up?
  11. Very very encouraging news. Even more encouraging now that it alludes to the impending departure of Jacque Jones. Adios Jacque Jones, hola Jason Jennings...... or Jake Westbrook..... or some other pitcher he'll likely be packaged for
  12. I have a feeling he was implying that our Mini-Zito is better than the real thing
  13. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, gotcha even more
  14. I've just been mulling that over as a possibility for the last 3 weeks and throwing it out there to see what people think and get their opinions on it.
  15. So according to that Cliff Floyd is a Type-A free agent? I'm not all that keen on the compensation picks. Does that mean if we sign him we'd have to give up a 1st round pick? Nope. The Mets didn't offer Floyd arbitration. Ahhhhhhh, gotcha.

  17. I thought we had Mini-Zito in our rotation already
  18. Hasn't Penny had a sketchy injury history? I'd want Billingsley, but we'd probably have to give up too much for him
  19. *COUGH* Jacque Jones and Scott Moore for Ian Snell *COUGH* Achem.... excuse me, what? Yeah I'm sure the Pirates would jump at that deal Well, the Pirates have been reported to be looking for a left handed hitting right fielder or first baseman with pop, along the production line of Chad Tracy, and might be willing to leto ne of the young staters in their rotation go. Tracy: .281AVG 20HR 80RBI Jones: .285AVG 27HR 81RBI They want a RF or 1B, Moore is blocked by Ramirez and Lee, he'll never make it in our system, he's better off used as a bargaining chip. He's put up solid numbers in the minors, as we all know, but the only real position he's akin to playing is 3B, and he could probably converted to a first basemen. Offering that trade would give the pirates the LH righty with pop they wanted, as well as a LH 1B prospect with pop that they also wanted. I don't think the Pirates would shoot that down immediately, I think they'd at least consider the options, especially in a market that's too rich for their blood http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6165654
  20. Wow... I remember at the beginning of the year people were talking about how he was going to cost maybe $4MM per year tops
  21. That's Ozzie and his son. And my understanding is that it is a traditional way of greeting when there is a lot of emotion in Venezuela. Well, when I typed "Scott Podsednik" into google, thats the first thing that showed up, and there was no name attached to it, so i assumed it was him. Sceondly, I understand in Venezuela and other countries that it's an understood form of expressing emotion. I saw plenty of that in the World Cup....... but I can still make fun of it for it being weird in America
  22. Pete Rose was Paul Molitor-level good. He was not even remotely close to the best player of his era, let alone of all time. I see what you're saying. I never actually examined his stats until now. I just assumed with all those hits, it led to high batting averages, which he only had a .303 career one. I was using gorilla logic. Regardless, I stil lthink he deserves to go. If you hold a career record in any major statistic I think those people should be admitted. It just doesn't make sense to not include them to me. It's not like gambling gave him enhanced super abilities like steroids do.
  23. They could trade us Pedroia for Izturis. HA! [/sarcasm]
