  1. We should've sent them one of the young pitchers, Izturis, and Scott Moore for Ben Zobrist, then they wouldn't have had to sign Iwamura. That's just me though
  2. I had to stop playing GH when my friend brought it over. I didn't want a rehash of the carpal tunnel I had 7 years earlier
  3. Hate to spark this back up, but my friend brought over his Nintendo Wii last night, and a bunch of us played Wii Sports for like 4-5 hours. After playing the Wii, I have completely made a 180, and I would love love love to have a Nintendo Wii before any other video game system. It is way too fun to pass up. For what it's worth.
  4. Contract details released... So $5MM and $7MM the first two years isn't bad. A lot like the deferred salary of Soriano. Leaving a lot of space open forthe next 2-3 years to get more people it seems
  5. This is, quite possibly, the most useless and insignificant information I've ever seen in professional journalism.
  6. <--- Brain fart
  7. Why would Texas part with him? Who would replace him as the closer?
  8. We didn't have pop last year. This year we have plenty... you have to figure the following - Ramirez, Lee, and Soriano will be good for 30+HR - Jones will be good for 25+HR (assuming he's still here) - Murton could be good for 20+HR if he hits the way he did toward the end of the season - A full season of Barrett could be good for 15+HR We'll hit plenty if HR, last year we sucked cause our big hitter went down with an injury leaving us with Ramirez and Jones to fill the power void. We were 9th in HR last year. If you facotr in a minimum of 30Hr that Lee could've added, it would've put us at 5th place. Go a little further and make it 40HR, we'd have been 4th. With Lee back, Ramirez having no pressure, and Soriano's bat in the lineup, barring any major injuries we'll likely be tops in the NL in HR. Not that it means anything, our OBP still might suck
  9. Emil Brown is like 5 months older than Jacque Jones. It's not like he'd be coming here with the intent on patrolling CF for the next 4 years. He'd be patrolling it for a minimum of 3 months or so, and a maximum of the full 2007 season. We don't need a long term investment. Plus, he'd be great off the bench I was about to laugh at this, but then I looked at his stats and saw that he hasn't been that bad the last two years. I didn't realize that he was even in baseball after leaving the Pirates - although I guess some would argue that playing for the Royals isn't really "in baseball." That's what I thought too. I saw that rumor and said "I know Reggie Sanders, but when did Brown start playing again?" then I looked at his stats. He's might not be that bad of an option for a stopgap CF till Pie is ready, and when he is, he'd make a good bench player. He could probably be had for cheap too... Brown's last two year averages: 149G 536AB 76R 154H 36-2B 4-3B 16HR 84RBI 8SB 54BB 102K .287AVG .354OBP .456SLG .809OPS That's not too shabby to have off the bench once Pie is good to go.

  11. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/B/Taylor-Buchholz.shtml Buchholz is a back-end rotation starter at best. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/H/jason-hirsh.shtml Jason Hirsh had the potential to be the #2 starter on the Astros. Now he's likely got the potential to be the #1 starter on the Rockies. I can't believe they threw him, Buchholz, and Tavares for essentially Jennings (Asencio isn't really worth anything). The Disastros got butt raped.
  12. Emil Brown? He's played CF before, and has put up decent numbers the past two years with a solid OBP. Could be a nice temp CF till Pie is ready and then be an outstanding bench player. I imagine he could be had for not too much, but not too little. Maybe one of Ohman/Wuertz and one of Mateo/Marmol/Guzman? Just throwing it out there.
  13. Z fired him. OH SNAP! If Zito makes the $100MM he's rumored to make, Zambrano will sign for no less than 5-years $85MM in my opinion, since he is leaps and bounds better than Zito, and everyone and their mothers know it
  14. Way to go Cubs for setting the table! If Jones will bring us a championship next year and walk after we win it, so be it, I'll take that championship. If not and we have no chance, no thank you. Too expensive both to try and keep and to trade for.
  15. No he didn't. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2681792 Don't know where you get your info from, but do a little research before jumping to some aggressive conclusions. I found that typing in "Soriano Winter Ball" into ESPN's search box, you can do the same with Google and it will show up. Not that hard.
  16. That's weird... Looks like the Pirates are gonna fleece the Red Sox or Yankees for Gonzalez. Ethero ne of those would be a good move fot Pitt. As for the Rays rumors, I too would like to see one of them in a Cubs uni... but the Rays are likely asking for way more than we can afford, sad to say
  17. I know Baseball Prospectus has that, not sure about Bill James' projections
  18. Aren't all ballplayers required to do a certain amount of community service?
  19. Someone posted this on another forum, and I'm not sure if this has been posted elswhere, if so, lock this thread. Apparently Bill James had this projection for Rich Hill next year (not sure if it's true or not, if anyone has it, care to confirm?)... 32G 32GS 201IP 165H 28HR 69BB 241K 8HB 13-9 .591% 0SV 10.8BR/9 3.40ERA here's what he had done for Zambrano... 32G 32GS 212IP 173H 17HR 98BB 191K 11HB 14-10 .583% 0SV 12.0BR/9 3.48ERA Someone had mentioned these were made prior to the offseason. I find it hard to believe that Hill will be better than Zambrano, and I consider it even more hard to believe that Hill will have 241 punch outs next year, but hey, FWIW
  20. We should get Victor Zambrano and try and trade him for Scott Kazmir!
