  1. Immediately following that statement, Piniella jamed the leg of a foot stool into the eye of Henry Blanco for chewing Grape Big League Chew instead of Watermelon Big League Chew
  2. Ryan Theriot is a marketing goldmine. Off topic? Yeah, it is.
  3. I like the fluke aspect of head 2 head leagues... it mimics real life. Just look at the Cardinals! Oh yeah, it's Feb. 16th...... why aren't the damn leagues available to open yet? GET ON THE BALL, YAHOO!
  4. Yeah, WTF is up with that? Earlier this week it said it's open on Thursday, did it not? I'm opening up a league for myself and my friends and I could've sworn it said Thursday... those bastards.
  5. oh yeah, I forgot when I played we played with the SV category as well. As I said, as long as it's H2H I'll be satisfied :)
  6. Head 2 Head is all I like to play. While it takes away from the factor of your team just having a slump despite being overall better, it makes it seem just like real baseball. I'm not much for a points system. 5x5 is fine with me. Typically when I play it we have the offensive categories AVG, HR, RBI, R, SB, and K's to add a bit of strategy (like choosing whether or not to sit someone like Adam Dunn because he detracts points for his K's, despite his power). Same for pitching: ERA, W, L, WHIP, K, BB (works the same as K's for offensive players) Really, as long as it's H2H I'll be fine with whatrever categories you choose. I've never put a max on innings pitched... what difference does it make? Like what strategies would you use with that cap, I've never even heard of putting a cap on that.
  7. I'm not mad at Z for wanting Zito money, I'm mad at him for not having the least bit of tact when discussing his long-term contract. If he came out and said he's looking for Zito money and he thinks he deserves it and hopes to get it done, fine, no biggie, we all know that. But since he came out and said basically that if they don't sign him by opening day then he's leaving the Cubs at the end of the season? That's just frustrating to hear and stupid to say. Why would you word a touchy situation like that? You're just asking for trouble if you put it that way
  8. Too many pages to read... so I'll just give my pointless 2 cents here... Trade him. Carlos Zambrano is probably our most powerful bargaining chip. If he's gonna be a punk about it and not show any sort of loyalty then screw him. Let him help us out for half the season and if we'd be in good shape without him or in bad shape with him, trade him for the best prospects we need in someone's farm system. Zambrano is turning into a jackass in my eyes. You think he'd have a little more tact about it
  9. I've played in 4 Yahoo leagues the last 3 years. One of which was a stupid "Hey guys, let's start a league, just the 4 of us, for fun" and we all had the best lineups on earth. It wasn't fun. The other 3 leagues I was in were 8 person leagues, and they were a blast. Fact of the matter is the first Fantasy Baseball league I was in back in 2004 pretty much resurrected my intrest in baseball to a whole new level. I started one amongst my fraternity brothers and told them they'd get addicted, some didn't do it, and that pissed me off, but the ones who did are addicted to baseball now. I have more experience than most of you, but I'd love to join. Experience doesn't really matter if you set the rules up nice. Plus I've never been in a league bigger than 8. So yeah, I'm down if you wanna let me in
  10. I hate Stephen A. Smith. He's a pompous know-it-all who knows absolutely squat. I mean, they're asking him for analysis and he gives it to you like you killed his mother. "What do you think about the Bulls, Stephen" "Well gee, I don't know, they're THE BULLS, what do YOU think?!"
  11. I think all good prospects deserve hype, but the media is making him the poster child of the minor league system. Maybe it's just that I don't put a lot of faith in pitching prospects because of the injury factor. That plus they're young and you never know what you'll get. Example: Felix Hernandez. So overhyped and considered to be the best pitching prospect in baseball and he's been nothing but mediocre since he's been up
  12. I got Howard in like the 5th or 6th round of my draft, best pick I ever made in Fantasy Baseball thus far.... Wait scratch that, taking Beltran back in '04 was a good move... As for the topic, in the Cubs farm system I'm not too keen on Samardzija yet. He played a handful of games last year as a prospect and people treat him like he's going to be the next big thing. In the minors... Phillip Hughes... I don't think he's bad, per se, but people treat HIM like he already IS the next big thing, and he's only played about 1 1/2 seasons worth in the minors and hasn't even made it to AAA yet. I'm not doubting his talent, he's got it and I'd love for the Cubs to have it, but he get's so much hype based on one full minor league season, mainly because he's on the Yankees and the media brown noses them. If you're ready to start huffing the dong of someone based on 1 to 1 1/2 good minor league seasons, then Dopirak should've gotten this same treatment by the mass media back in 2004
  13. Apparently it wasn't Lima time
  14. Say Prior AND Miller come back healthier and just as strong as they were at their best (insert hel lfreezing over joke here)... What becomes of the rotation then?
  15. Link HOORAY!!! Backloaded contracts are so hot right now
  16. Best of luck to him in the post baseball world. Wise move to get out at this point
  17. Unquestionably not true. He had three good years with the Cubs (alternating with three putrid years) and was a solid contributor to the 1998 Wild Card team (notwithstanding his giving up McGwire's 62nd HR). Yeah, I know, but I still hated him AND his guts. It sucked because I've always been a Cubs fan but back then I didn't follow the Cubs like I do now, I'd just occassionally catch a game on WGN coming home from school or something, and for some reason every time I'd turn it on it'd be Steve Trachsel pitching at home, and he's ALWAYS lose. He'd have no problem winning on the road, or at least road games I'd see, but every home game it was loss after loss after loss. That made me hate him. Probably more just bad timing on my viewing part, but it was enough for me to despise his existence in the major leagues.
  18. I always hated Steve Traschel, I never thought he was worth a crap. I'm surprised he still has interest
  19. IIRC, Izturis is actually a decent player in the MVP game
  20. Comedian would be funny, even if the comedian isn't funny, because people would boo him/her a lot. That plus I love stand-up/sketch comedy. I'm sure if they booked Seinfeld to be the halftime show it'd be good, wholesome fun
  21. I never really followed football until I started playing in a fantasy league three years ago. Same can be said for basebal 4 years ago. I always loved the Chicago teams (sans White Sox), but never really followed them seriously until 3-4 years ago, but thats only the Bears and Cubs. I was born in a suburb of Chicago but moved to the Tampa Bay area when I was 3. Some people on here show some loyalty to the teams of the respected areas they've lived in. Not me. I hate Florida. I'd use a lot of expletives to describe my disdain for Florida but I don't want to be rude. I hate everything about it, as well as their sports teams, particularly their fans (Tampa Bay fans especially). No one gave a crap about the Bucs/Lightning/Devil Rays. Bucs started winning, people jumped on their bandwagon, even my parents who lived in Chicago for almost 20 years. Their fairweather attitude made me sick, my mother is even pulling for the Colts because she wants Dungy to win a championship. But I've always been a fan of Chicago teams, regardless of record. I've always loved the Cubs but not until recently did I track their every move. That's why I love Chicago sports and hate Florida sports. Win or lose, everyone still supports their beloved Cubbies/Bears/Bulls/Blackhawks/White Sox etc. Win in FL, you've got 15 minutes of fame until you start losing again and people stop giving a crap about you. It's dumb ass fans like that which make my loyalties to Chicago sports that much stronger. I don't care if I move right next to the stadium of a different team sometime in my life, I'll never root for them unless my teams are out of it and I have no one left to root for. Chicago sports till the day I die.
  22. Ahh, I was wrong. the new ones look like that but with white/red instead of red
  23. are those the new batting practice jerseys?
  24. I see your point, but you can beat yourself in tennis as well. If Federer is hitting the ball into the net, or is long on his shots, he's beating himself. The difference in the two sports is that in tennis, someone can force you to make errors. Golf, it's all on you. You summed it up a lot better than me
  25. Tiger Woods doesn't lose to anybody. Nobody is responsible for him losing other than himself. He doesn't play one on one or one against 35 or whatever. He plays by himself to achieve a score for himself to try and be better than someone else. If Tiger has a higher score than someone else, he got outplayed, not beat. Tennis is one on one, if you don't win a match it's because you got your ass handed to you. Tiger hands his own ass to himself if he can't win. Tiger making a par instead of a birdie has no correlation to how someone like Phil Mickelson is doing two holes over. It's directly related to Tiger beating himself (insert pre-teen joke here) At least thats how i see it
