    Really doubt Schmidt would be telling his Giant' teammates that he's signing with the Dodgers if he still had a meeting planned with the Cards. What I want to know is, who is the snitch of an ex-teammate working as a rumor source for reporters? I just imagine him calling up Mike Matheny and being like Jason: I'm going ot the Dodgers Mike: Good job, good for you. *hangs up, Matheny dials Ken Rosenthall* Mike: Jason Schmidt signs with Dodgers, make up a number Ken: The eagle flies at midnight!

    I've been saying we should trade Jones to the Pirates for a month now. Granted it was for Snell and not Duke, cause I figured they wouldn't part with Duke. Duke would be VERY nice. Originally I suggested Jones and Moore for Snell, it would give them the 1B and RF left handed power bats they want. Why not do that for Duke, too? Moore won't make it as a starter in this organization with Ramirez and Lee blocking him

    Z/Schmidt/Hill/Lilly/Miller-Prior That's a rotation I could be happy with. Now go get a SS and a CF Hendry. How hilarious (not in a good way) is it, that even after the two biggest FA signings come to Chicago, signing the top FA pitcher, and a middle of the rotation guy gets us halfway to our goal. It goes to show you just how bad we were last year and how bad off we were this offseason. At least he's not content on filling half the positions and rolling the dice on the other

    I don't think he is either. I think Steve Phillips is a moron. The point I was trying to make (not sure if you were responding to my post) was that we were making the wrong deal if they were giving up Hawpe for so little in return

    So now that this trade is squashed, and thank God it is because I didn't like it, if the Pirates were pretty much giving up one of their pitching prospects (Maholm, and I also read they were dangling Gorzelanny) for Brad Hawpe... welllll, why the hell were we not offering Veal or Gallagher for Hawpe? Don't get me wrong, I like 'em both, but if one of them could net us Hawpe the same way one of Gorzelanny or Maholm could've netted Hawpe, then we were making the wrong trade. We could've done that and then hocked Jones off somewhere else for pitching. Granted, it would've never happened, but I just didn't like how the deal was structured, it could've been much more beneficial to the Cubs. In market exploding with money where relievers, back end rotation, and bench players are getting paid what Jacque Jones is making as a starting RF who can produce (only they're getting paid more), the market for Jacque Jones should be able to net us a lot more then just Jason Jennings if he's packaged in a deal properly
