  1. So in essence, he's the pitching version of J.D. Drew?
  2. Missed it again! I don't want to beat a dead horse... but Pittsburgh needs a left-handed RF with pop. They have 6 SP's available to be penciled into their rotation next year, they can afford to trade at least one of their young pitchers. I mean, it's practically writing its own script here.
  3. And it's true... this is part of a quote from someone who had seen it when I posted a link for shiggles on another forum. This guy is from Toronto, so... So, it appears it's untrue... very untrue
  4. that last one kills me - unpassionate like when he beaned Bonds and then stared him down? Give me a break (I realize you are not saying that but that others believe it). The kid's got gusto!
  5. Exactly, he doesn't have an overload of crown jewels in his farm system, but he doesn't have a surplus of useless future journeymen like we do. Their system produces solid average to above average every day players who can get the job done and do their part to putting a winner on the field. Rather than churn out one or two gems every other year to rely on and try and get by with some scraps left over, he's got a system full of players that can fill any role that may need to be filled once their current players leave for the FA market, and they'll fill it adequately, and waaaaay cheaper.
  6. And in my opinion, the current market value is malarky. But hey, if the clubs got the cash to toss around, then so be it. I'm not opposed to signing Lilly, I just think $9.375MM for his track record is outlandish. I think he'd be a respectable signing at $7-8MM, but a shade under $9.5MM is another case of useless overspending. We could probably sign Schmidt and trade for a #4 easily. Why overpay for a 3/4 and then try and sign a #2? If anything, sign the #2 first, then get the 3/4. Don't jack the #2 price up by overpaying for a #3 or #4.
  7. $9.375MM/yr...... yeah, that's malarky. If that is true, and the Cubs are actually trying to get Schmidt, they're dooming themselves by driving up his price on their own by giving Lilly a contract like this.
  8. Praise the Lord, HALLELUJAH! Now if only they can swing a trade with the Bucs for Ian Snell like I've been hoping for for the past 3 weeks......... yeah, right.
  9. To those that didn't want to load the PDF...
  10. Why can't people bring back the trendy websites of the original WWW back in the mid-late 90's. How come nobody makes "Ate My Balls" websites anymore? "LouPiniellaAteMyBalls.com"
  11. I'm sure it wasn't any worse than the "Whose Curse is Worse" special where they had a judge, jury, and court defense lawyers present the Red Sox and Cubs case. That was downright humiliatingly lame. They were really milking that cash cow for all it was worth
  12. I actually heard that he uses our farm system scouting reports as toilet paper. And in retrospect, Hendry attempts to use Beane's farm ystem scouting reports as currency at the local meat market. But in all seriousness we'd probably have to part with at least one of the crown jewels of our farm system to get Blanton. Except our crown jewels arem ore like those cheap rings you can get in a cracker jack box... like the Schwartz
  13. One more year of Ozzednik man-love... or Scozzie man-love. http://cache.deadspin.com/sports/ozzieguillenkissingagain.jpg gheeeeeeey
  14. *COUGH* Jacque Jones and Scott Moore for Ian Snell *COUGH* Achem.... excuse me, what?
  15. I have a lot of faith in Gerald Perry. I think he'll be able to turn our hitters patience around at least a little, if not a lot. Plus, while Soriano had a .351 total OBP last year, his OBP from the lead off spot was a comfy .368. The last time he primarily hit lead-off prior to joining the Nationals was in 2003 with NY, when he was still walloping the ball and was just starting to hit his prime. I think with his early prime years behind him, and him being in the middle of it, he's grown accustomed to the lead-off spot. I don't think a .350OBP isn't out of line for Soriano to reach, especially if he had a .368 one in the lead off spot last year, and especially if Gerald Perry teaches our hitters the patience they so desperately need. That's just me though
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=bartman It's all jumbled and not within a layout, but that's the article you mentioned
  17. Let's just hope he's actually 30 and not older... Touché
  18. Ahh, well nevermind then. Here I was hoping for a loophole
  19. Ahhh, was his real age revealed a few years ago or something? I never followed baseball that closely between the years of 1999-2004 for some reason
  20. Or is this just lost in translation? Love of the Game Drives Soriano It says he was 16 in 1995. Wouldn't that make him 27 and not 30 years old? Or is this just a ridiculous typo on Cubs.com part? Or is it poor translation assuming he was speaking in Spanish? Did anyone else catch this? I read it on a blog somewhere
  21. I'm unfamiliar with the entire story of his gambling woes. Did he do this solely as a manager, as I've come to understand over these years, or as a player as well? If he did it only as a manager, then why does it matter? He's not deserving to go into the HOF as a manager, but as a player. And as one of the greatest players in the history of the game at that. He deserves to go in. That's like a lot of these media writers talking about Bonds going to the Hall. A lot of them say "Bonds was a lock for the Hall of Fame before he started bulking up so I think he deserves to go for that". Was Rose not deserving to go to the HOF before he started betting on baseball?
  22. you can watch it (or part of it, not sure) on cubs.com now in case anyone wants to see it and missed it
  23. Didn't they do this like a week ago? Or are these the released contract details?
