  1. I can't believe Brownlie is still pitching. Don't ask me why he popped into my head yesterday. He's around 28 years old already, though.
  2. The gay jokes have to stop. Anyone who continues them will risk getting a day off.
  3. viewtopic.php?f=29&t=48466
  4. Why would Carlos want to comment on a move that hadn't happened yet when his words would undoubtedly be twisted or at least exaggerated? I think he'd much rather just have a brief chat with Edmonds and move on. Besides, yesterday was his day to meet with Cuauhtemoc Blanco. Z had to get in the right zone.
  5. Could a Bobby Brownlie big league debut be near? His K/BB ratio is nearly 1, but he put up a 2.83 ERA in 6 starts at AA and is now with Washington's AAA affiliate.
  6. Did the Cubs sign another Mark Pawelek?
  7. I don't believe in destiny. The Cubs like to use results to retrospectively justify their actions. If Pie still turns out, it'll be because they didn't play him while struggling in the majors and sent him back to the minors. If Pie doesn't turn out, they were right in not giving him more of a chance.
  8. My main concern with having Hill called back up now is that he'll be more time with Rothschild. That seems to be inevitable, though.
  9. He didn't have a good strike to total pitch ratio last time out, but the choice is between leaving Hill at Iowa and let Marquis start or remove Marquis from the rotation and let Hill work on his mechanics in the majors. He has still been effective and has struck out more batters as of late. It's not that tough of a decision when compared to leaving him down there for the rest of the month.
  10. With four day games coming up after tonight, Piniella should sit Soto either tonight or tomorrow.
  11. Probably a dumb question, but is Edward Kaplan any relation to David Kaplan of Tribune Live and Sports Central on 720? I don't believe so. Kaplan has ties to IIT, U of C, and Northwestern. I can't say I know anything about the other guys except for Krasny, who founded CDW, and Pat Ryan, who is the chair of the board of trustees at Northwestern, is out biggest fundraiser, founded Aon, and is also heading up the Chicago 2016 campaign. Canning is the vice-chair on the board of trustees at Northwestern and a member of the board of trustees for a ridiculous number of other organizations and companies. I don't envision that group shaking up the front office and changing this organization's philosophy.
  12. I'm sure it's just posturing, but I'd imagine that some of the potential buyers are becoming a little frustrated.
  13. Canning's group includes ex-Cubs chairman Andrew McKenna, David Donnini, Craig Duchossois, Michael Ferro, Edward Kaplan, Michael Krasny, Larry Levy, Richard Melman, Patrick Ryan and Michael Sacks. There are more, all with strong Chicago ties.
  14. The Cedeno to CF talk seemed to keep Piniella entertained for a day or two.
  15. Thompson was on WGN Radio this morning saying that the Sun-Times story was false. He said that Zell had send him a letter that he should receive today regarding the status of the sale. Because the story appears on Cubs.com after Thompsons radio interview and roughly the time when he would have received the letter, though, I'm leaning towards believing that the deal is just about off.
  16. Even if it was at USC, he made a good decision to stay in school and finish his undergraduate degree while playing baseball. With that said, he's got a ways to go before his career is over. The shoulder surgery was pretty recent.
  17. The Bears signed Robbie Gould to a 5-year extension. There are no details available yet.
  18. The odd part is that he wasn't like that during the game. I, on the other hand, only stopped once the camera was turned on. It was definitely a good game to go to and was nice meeting everyone.
  19. Only interference can stop Soto. Was it a legit call?
  20. He's now a Pirate after being traded with cash for a PTBNL.
  21. It should be noted that Hoffpauir has all of 8 ABs this season.
  22. Thank goodness. I'd much, much rather have Marshall start at Iowa than waste away as the Cubs' LOOGY. And we all know that Marshall is not going to get a chance to start unless Lilly or Hill go down for an extended period of time. I thought this wasn't supposed to happen until Saturday, though.
  23. What about moving it 100 feet or so and going back to the Federal League? Getting rid of some of the fences and concrete panels might look pretty good, actually. Even redoing them would work.
  24. A blurb on what the Cubs want to do with Wrigley:
