  1. It has been 122 years since the last time they won 4 straight games by 6 or more runs.
  2. We already had one GK leave because he was getting paid roughly $60,000. Why would a top draft pick want to play with an organization after hearing that?
  3. Why on earth would anyone complain about an easy schedule for the first 12% of the season? Do they not realize that in the end, the schedule difficulty pretty much evens out in the end for division rivals? And by "end" I mean 142 games from now.
  4. So what's it going to be? That was the case last night, right? Lou wanted to get him in the game regardless since it had been 3 games, apparently, but I doubt he would use him two games in a row in blowout situations.
  5. Look at the LOB percentages. When you're getting on base as much as the Cubs have been, you're going to leave more on the bases on average. They may have left a lot of runners on today, but they've also scored 8 runs.
  6. No swinging at the first pitch, Matt. Apparently the coaching staff actually wants people to be patient now.
  7. The Cubs went 25 straight innings at the plate with reaching base at least once. Not bad.
  8. Is this for pre-season games? Preseason games, Bears GDL, and Bears GNL. Everything that used to be on NBC.
  9. WFLD outbid WMAQ and WBBM for the Bears' TV partnership. They signed a 5-year deal with the Bears and will replace Channel 5.
  10. It's way, way too early to determine what kind of power he'll have in this league.
  11. Cedeno has looked just fantastic with two strikes on him over the last few days.
  12. I don't see the big deal. It's not some kind of free speech issue. If the Cubs don't like them they should ban them. It's their stadium. I'm not sure if we would even be setting a precedence for banning shirts. I'm pretty sure that other stadiums have banned "Yankees sucks" t-shirts and other things like this in the past. I'd imagine that a fan with profanity on their t-shirt would be forced to turn it inside-out in most stadiums. I don't see why they couldn't just do that with these t-shirts.
  13. These aren't even really modern stereotypes, though. And they're used to demean, which means that there is an attempt, whether knowingly or not, to give that individual or entire race an inferior status in our society. It's not a neutral difference.
  14. Effectively the Cubs did nothing. At least not yet. They haven't actually prevented vendors from continuing to sell the t-shirts and they don't care if you wear them inside the ballpark. And it's not just one t-shirt. There are several t-shirts and one of the headbands says it, as well.
  15. What is that from?! Before they took the field during Z's last start. But it's better if removed from context.

  17. It took about five seconds once I got out of the el station to see a vendor selling the t-shirts. And there were tons of people wearing the headbands which also said "horry cow." On the el ride back, this drunk guy with his kids was bragging about how he got him and his kids the t-shirts before they stopped selling them. He shouted "horry cow" about 25-30 times in 20 minutes. There are a crapload of ignorant and/or racist people out there.
  18. I looked a bit this morning for a soundclip but came up empty. Does anyone know at what point in the game it happened? Maybe someone with Gameday audio can help us out. I listened to a few games against the Cubs that Marty called on the radio back in 2003 or so. He has no other mode but bitter, whether it's about the opposing team, the umpires, or the Reds themselves.
  19. It's a good argument, but I spent my morning making this avatar, so I'll have to reply later. I will say, though, that a lot of it still depends on a combination of Lou's usage of the bullpen, which is unlikely to change, and Marmol's ability to improve as a starter in regards to efficiency. His pitching career is still quite young. I'm also not sure how realistic it would be for the move to the rotation to be made in-season, especially since someone like Marshall is being completely wasted and would be a better option than two starters right now. Piniella probably isn't going to replace both Dempster and Marquis as the season goes on. I would like to reinforce that my original point, though, was with how Piniella uses Marmol out of the bullpen. While I'd still like to see him in the rotation, the main problem is that Marmol is being used at times to eat relatively meaningless innings. And since he's not even the closer, his leverage ceiling is limited right now.
  20. I think I'm most impressed with his walk rate in the early going, which is double than what it was last year over the same number of ABs. That .099 IsoD is sexy.
  21. I'm glad they reacted quickly to the article, but a week or two ago would have been nicer. Regardless, I hope they go even further and make people inside Wrigley turn those shirts inside out.
  22. Wow. I hadn't seen the t-shirt before. That's amazing.
