  1. The Fire moved to 5-1-1 last night with a 2-0 win in DC. Blanco had an impressive goal, although the GK was too far out.
  2. Is it just me or does it seem like MLBPA would normally have pushed things a lot quicker? I can't imagine they want Barry in the game any more than the owners do. They still have a long-term interest in making sure that all veterans keeps getting a lot of money, including those accused of steroid use. And if MLBPA turns its back on what they suspect is collusion, that can be a slippery slope.

  4. I think possibly my biggest question regarding Bonds' situation is why the MLBPA hasn't yet filed some sort of grievance against MLB. I know they've "expressed" concern, but I would have thought that the MLBPA would be moving faster on this.
  5. Perhaps Eyre had travel difficulties going from the I-Cubs to Chattanooga for a game the following day.
  6. You don't make an out, which is really what OBP tells you. If you get caught stealing, that out negates the lack of out in the player's PA. There can still be some value if you move a runner along on your hit/walk before being caught stealing, but that's more reflected in the player's SLG% than OBP. I just want to know why Piniella hasn't tried to limit Theriot's base stealing attempts.
  7. I'm leaning towards the theory that Selig is making an example of Bonds and there is an implicit understanding in place with the GMs not to touch him. Even though they scrapped two illegal substance suspensions as part of their agreement with the PA in their new drug policy, MLB probably still feels that someone has to take the fall in order to help their image. Bonds is the perfect target. Otherwise I'd love to sign him up.
  8. Guess I'll wash the jeans before packing tonight. So, just to be clear, we're all wearing Fukudome headbands, right? :D Just as long as it doesn't clash with your ancient Japanese porcelain sake flask.
  9. I'll plan to join you guys in line sometime around 12:15-12:30, probably. We should have enough people to hold seats. And forget the shorts, Vance. Saturday may be the nicest of the days that you're in, but it looks like we're only in store for a high in the upper 50s or low 60s. Hopefully the sun can peek out, though.
  10. Again, if anyone is going to continue that conversation, do it here.
  11. Marshall is up. Can his LOOGY status be removed in emergency situations?
  12. Lee is 4 for his last 26 with 0 XBHs and 4 walks. Amazingly, he has scored 4 runs over that stretch.
  13. No, ronny was there yesterday and sounded like crap then too. He actually sounds better today. Yeah, he sounds better today. By the third inning yesterday, you could barely hear him. Of course, I think he actually did start to say something while pushing his cough button down at one point.
  14. Well, not surprisingly, his great walk rate through his first four games didn't last. Over his last four games, he's had 15 Ks to 11 BBs. Oh, and 2 runs.
  15. Hill's final line: 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 3 2B, 1 HR, 78 pitches, 47 strikes, 6-2 GO-FO While he was hit hard, he had much better control. If he can do the same while having an easier time of it in his next start, I think that might be it for Hill at Iowa.
  16. 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR. 64 pitches, though.
  17. They'll come back. They always come back.
  18. Mixed results for Hill so far: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 Ks, 1 HR, but most importantly, 0 BBs. The HR was given up to Jeremy Reed, who is off to a great start to his season.
  19. If you penalize Theriot's OBP for his 6 caught stealings, his OBP drops from .397 to .353. His successful stolen basees don't even come to making up for that drop. Cedeno, on the other hand, is hitting .383/.473/.574 with better range and a superior arm. He shouldn't be playing over Cedeno.
  20. He apparently had to stop because of the pain, so I can't imagine that he'll be back this series.
  21. That's what it will be according to ChicagoBulls.com.
  22. According to a paper out of Tacoma, Rich Hill will start tonight for Iowa. You're welcome, Raisin.
  23. Wow. Didn't see that coming. Is Wennington following Funk to the TV side?
