Thats way too high of a price to pay for a 18 million salary dump.
  2. IIRC, it was Sosa for Soriano, Nick Johnson, Ricky Ledee, and I think Ted Lilly. Just imagine if we had pulled that off. Yeah, just imagine--you'd be plenty upset. Sosa almost got the team in the playoffs in 01, and he was our biggest bat in the 03 run. He also put up some mighty fine numbers in 02 and wasn't bad in 04 even, at least until the last month and a half or so. Meanwhile, Soriano has been hot and cold, Nick Johnson is always hurt, Ricky Ledee is a deadbeat, and Ted Lilly is a dime-a-dozen #4 starter. Sometimes, the best trades are the ones not made after all.... Nick Johnson wasn't involved. The other player was Jake Westbrook. I believe the Cubs actually preferred Jimenez to Soriano but he had an injury (car accident?). Jackson Melian was being mentioned as a 5th but the Yanks were against giving up 5.
  3. It will be a 3 way trade with Boston. We'll get David Wells. Him and Glendon will give Dusty 2 big lefties.
  4. People have speculated about the Cubs resigning Maddux. What type of draft compensation would be involved. Obviously the Cubs don't value draft picks since they as they gave up a 2nd,3rd and 4th last year. Keeping draft picks and gaining extras should be taken into consideration.Instead of unloading a player who is a free agent and getting very little, how about holding on to them and getting extra picks the next draft. Also,if Walker leaves San Diego, what kind of compensation will they get?
  5. Could this be considered a salary dump by the Dodgers? He had one good year and then his hitting went Neifi like. A 302 obp the last 2 years. Neifi looks like a bargain if Izturis doesn't get back to his 2004 form. The Dodgers even got money back in the deal. The 4 million the Dodgers saved for Izturis next year could be used to sign Lugo.
  6. You wouldn't ask for more after 5 1/3 shutout innings? Will you change your mind after he wins a game?
  7. I've been hearing how the Yankees farm system is weak. But they have quite a few players ranked.
  8. On ESPN's rumor line deal during SportsCenter, they thought that Betemit would be a Yankee before the trade deadline so moving Giles wouldn't make much sense. When it comes to trade rumors,it seems like any good player is going to the Yankees.
  9. Ricciardi wouldn't want him. Low average,no walks, lots of double plays.
  10. I agree that he should of been pulled earlier in game 6 with an 11 run lead. To give him a break and to get some work for a middle guy or 2. But I don't believe it had anything to do with Game 6.
  11. Are you thinking 2 years and $12M with a mutual (includes vesting) option for the 3rd year? Probably higher .The Cubs usually overpay.
  12. What I saw was Prior get rattled and lose his cool. Bartman, walked Castillo, hung 0-2 pitch to Pudge, Gonzalez error ,DLee double. Blaming his game 2 pitch count on what happened in the 8th inning of Game 6 is really reaching. He did throw 119 in Game 6. Those pitches would be much more relevant to a fatigue arguement.
  13. His philosophies and Billy Beanes are very similar.
  14. with Dusty for sure.. I am not so sure about Hendry tho. Not sure about Hendry??????
  15. What mistakes did Hendry really admit to?
  16. Probably hurt his neck watching them balls go over the wall.
  17. I doubt playing Walker will effect his trade value.Playing Neifi over Theriot, thats Dusty. He didn't play him on the last callup,so its not a suprise. Its a shame Hendry don't step in.But,they still think they're in a pennant race.
  18. Even the people defending this move aren't suggesting they got anything of value. Basically they are taking a wait and see approach. They have eras over 5 and this is their second year at the same level, and both are rule 5 eligible. The fact is that this was done 9 days before the deadline. I can't believe waiting couldn't have gotten anything less. But Hendry said "they're projectible". When your era is over 5 the second year of A ball, what does that project to at the major league level?
  19. it's not hitting the white sox should be concerned with... Yeah, plus where would they put him?? LF. Pods in CF. And then where does Brian Anderson go?? AAA
  20. He shows up 3 games out of 90 so now he decides to call out the rest of the team. Its a shame no one will tell him to shut the ...........
  21. Since Hendry gave Sosa away everyone on the Cubs trading block is given away.Quite kidding yourselves thinking he got something of value. At one time Hendry was able to unload Todd Hundley for 2 good players. Now ............. 8 days before the deadline and he sells this low!!! 2 more years of this!!! 100 years sure is looking like a lock. Go Cubs!
  22. It would not suprise me one bit, if Hendry held on to Maddux and tried to sign him to a one year $8-10M deal at the end of the season. I think it will be 1 year and $6M (which was his 2004 salary). I'll stick to what I said in the offseason - right or wrong, Maddux will be a Cub in 2007. I'm pretty sure Hendry will bring him back to be his #4. thats alot of money for a number 4(getting closer to 5)
  23. A young, experienced lefty.........be prepared to be stunned. Who would be coming off a shoulder injury. I know someone will offer him $10M. Jim Hendry He could be the number 3 pitcher of our bum shoulder rotation. Prior,Wood,Mulder,Miller
  24. Matt Clement Moises Alou Kyle Farnsworth I'm still glad Trachsels gone. They lose much quicker now.
