  1. They're saying in the Carlos Lee post that Soriano will be playing right.
  2. uh somewhere in this thread theres a point i made where 122 games of JD Drew is a heck of a lot better than 162 games of Soriano in CF. At some point we have to look beyond the stats. I don't care what they say, only having a player 2/3 of the season a a premium price isn't acceptable. The you start dealing with unknowns like when the player is going to be injured, which part of the season will you be missing your high-priced production. The stretch run, the playoffs? IMO, if two players are even in the same area code production-wise, you take the one who will be healthy, every time. Especially when you have guys like Neifi,Mabry, and Bynum on the bench
  3. What were the other offers for Soriano anyway?
  4. Drew was looking for 4/56. That went up. Sorianos a 40/40 player.hes more versatile, less fragile.Drew does have a much better obp. Whether you or I feel that hes the best FA out there, thats how hes regarded.
  5. Thats nice. Two things. First, needs are needs and needs determine value. Secondly, Soriano isn't the best FA position player. Then who is?
  6. Soriano is the best free agent position player. He is getting paid accordingly. Arods contract averages 25 mil a year,Jeter 19 mil. Those contracts were also signed a few years ago. If they were free agents, they would be getting more than Soriano. Hes in the right place at the right time.
  7. For years we have watched Chicago teams be afraid to overspend. We've watched the Marlins buy a series, the Yankees,Red Sox etc. But not us. We wanted Furcal....but at the "fair" price. If they want to overspend on Soriano,DeRosa etc.. Fine. Go for it! Open up the checkbook, set the market, bring us a winner!
  8. Look at Murtons numbers after the break! Hopefully another outfielder will not be replacing him. .319 .390 .522 .912 9 homers 35 rbi
  9. They can't offer him arbitration, he might accept.
  10. If Izturis really was a .300 hitter and a top 5 NL shortstop we wouldn't be so concerned about the lineup.
  11. What will Barrett command as a free agent? Maybe 9 million per? Thats alot of money for a catcher who can't throw anyone out.
  12. Hes made great improvements defensively? Hes a green light for all baserunners.
  13. As a fan of a team that considers 2 consecutive years of 500 baseball a success,I can't bring myself to insult a team that makes the playoffs nearly every year.
  14. Especially when they can't hit the cutoff man properly.
  15. If Beanes teams are chokers, whats yours?
  16. I hope its not Speier.
  17. Upgrade at 2nd,short,center and right. Let Murton play.Crying about lack of power is silly. Why does a left fielder have to hit 35 homers?
  18. Why should Murton have to platoon with Jones? Here are their numbers vs. righties. AVE. OBP SLG. Jones .303 .358 .528 Murton .295 .354 .426 While Jones has more power, why should Murton sit against righties? Murton just finished his first full season. His power numbers will go up. He just turned 25.We finally develop a position player and people want to sit him because of a lack of power.
  19. So they wait until now for a second opinion? They are going to strengthen the shoulder instead of surgery. You would have thought they would have been doing that all year but... This buys them time until Spring Training.
  20. Hes the reason I'm not thrilled with Pinellas arrival. Its baffling that he survived again. In the past I've had many reasons Rothschild should have been gone. After reading and listening to the coverage the last few days a few more things jump out: 1) Why would Piniella want him when Piniella said that the pitchers need to quit trying to strike everybody out and just worry about getting people out.If Rothschild aggrees with that philosophy, why wasn't it implemented previously? And yes I know that he was Pinellas bullpen coach 15 years ago. 2) Why is he going to work with Prior now to fine tune his mechanics? What about the last 4 years? This sounds like they are trying to create a positive spin on Priors shoulder problems by saying Rothschild will fix it. 3) I read where the pitchers highly regard Rothschild. I recall the opposite this summer. It was suggested that the pitchers would go to Maddux and Rothschild was basically looked upon as a joke.
  21. Piniella can stomp his feet and yell all he wants. Jones will still make bad throws and get doubled off of second. Izturis still won't hit. Everyone will still run on Barrett. Cedeno will make too many errors, hit poorly, and not take a walk. Dempster will still walk too many to be a closer. Freddy Garcia pitched 238 innings one year for Piniella in 34 games. So don't think he will ease up on Big Z. 115 million budget,if it happens will not make a difference if its not spent wisely. They paid almost 100 mil to the players and 4 mil to the manager last year to finish last. If he brings Rothschild back, that will tell you that it is still business as usual.
  22. Why? Geoff Blum is a valuable Left-handed hitter off the bench. He can pretty much play anywhere on the field. He has some power in his bat, and he puts the bat on the ball. I love his versatility. Those things also describe Jose Macias. Blum has been terrible offensively for quite some time. But he's a Cub Killer!!! .348/.375/.609 Hes a Cub killer only because hes facing Cub pitching. If he played for the Cubs,he would have to face non-Cub pitchers.
  23. Remember the last time they had the number 3 pick?
