  1. I don't believe that Barrets offense makes up for his defensive shortcomings.
  2. Why not Griffey to the Cubs. I don't know what his the length of contract looks like, but we certainly have enough relievers to send the Reds a few more. Probably because Griffey to the Sox has been floated for many years.
  3. Why don't they make a 100 statue to celebrate the milestone next year?
  4. Who knows with new ownership though.
  5. well let's look at that. all other things being equal, if he doesn't give up on the ball in the second, the White Sox probably don't score. that puts the game at 8-6. he doesn't assume the ball gets through in the ninth, the score is 8-6 with two on and the Cubs hottest hitter at the plate. not THE reason the Cubs lost, but it definitely decreased the likelihood they would win the game. as for other options, Murton and Floyd. what's so hard to figure out about that one? it's not like Soriano's current stats are irreplaceable. Soriano running was in reference to previous baserunning, not the foul ball in the Sox game. The foul ball was more laziness or a lack of effort.I doubt the hamstring came into play.
  6. Lots, but I wasn't one of them. Seeing players run as hard as possible every single time is exciting and all, but the important numbers he puts up are far more exciting than seeing him 'grind' his way down the basepaths and aggravate his former injuries. Well I only speak for myself, and I just said that. It happened yesterday, so unless you have evidence of Piniella not addressing it, it's a bit presumptuous to say that he doesn't, especially when past experience says that he does and will. You're right, the Cubs lost because Alfonso Soriano didn't run as hard as possible. You do realize these two sentences contradict themselves. The second is accurate, they do linger, and Soriano running at 85% is a lot better than Soriano on the bench. It's not a decision, it's a feeling. He probably runs as hard as he feels comfortable with. Like? The other options are playing the other outfielders. I somewhat remember 2 games after Soriano came back that his baserunning made a difference. One was not tagging at third. The two sentences did contradict, but what was meant was that if a another week or two would of helped,it should have been taken. The decision was not all his.
  7. I wouldn't DFA Eyre,I'd consider a trip to the 15 day DL.
  8. You can't be serious. The guy has a soft hamstring. This hustle thing is kind of silly. Soriano wants to win just as much as the next guy, but he's not going to pull up with a 15-day DL trip to do it, as he's more valuable on the field than off. Aram has had hamstring problems in the past. How many people bashed him for not hustling down the line? How many said when Piniella got hired he'd address it? Soriano not taking the extra base because he doesn't want to push it. When this affects the outcome of the game, its a problem. If he needed the extra week or two ,he should've taken it. Hamstring injuries tend to linger. How long until he decides to go all out. There are other options.
  9. Seems to me that Piniella thought about make a drastic change (moving Dempster to the rotation), considered the ramifications, took into account other opinions, then came to the rational conclusion that the best option was to leave Dempster as closer, put Guzman as set up man to improve performance in getting the game to the closer, and promote Marshall to the rotation. Despite all the hand wringing, it seems like a good decision making process. I agree with the final result. I'm just questioning why the other options would even be considered..
  10. Ha. I just thought it was a BS injury to get Guzman in the majors. Actually a BS injury to get Miller out of the majors.
  11. I understand why they overpaid.I understand he will hit better. I understand how hes not a great fielding outfielder. But when I see a lack of hustle on the bases and in the field ... He seems to be geting the benefit of the doubt that others wouldn't.
  12. I didn't even realize our rotation and closer was the problem. I thought the problem was getting the game to the closer. Dempsters is 9 of 10.Why not move Guzman into the setup role? I remember Dempster starting as a Cub. Look at his career as a starter. I fail to see the logic.
  13. Steve Phillips ? Hes just there to make the others look smart.
  14. Remember this blast from the past? http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/krkhinrich/200px-Mussolini_hitler.jpg You just gotta love a pitcher who is supposedly a sinker baller yet leads the league in HR's allowed. He allowed 35 HR last year (last three seasons has brought an increase from 26 to 29 to 35). Just in case you think the homerun increase is fluky I would point out the decrease from 138 to 100 to 96 k's. Jason has no second pitch, he overthrows his sinker and he has a reputation of being hard to work with. Well,Rothschild is gonna fix that (so they say)
  15. Hendry needs to learn how to negotiate. With Carpenter at 5/65 and Oswalt at 5/73 a first offer of 5/90 is silly. But,with what was spent on Soriano,Marquis.Blanco,Floyd.I shouldn't be suprised.
  16. mo money,mo money,mo money !
  17. Just saw Jay Blunk on Comcast. He said that the money goes to the payroll and it will help them put a championship style club on the field. He didn't explain how this is a championship style team though.
  18. As much as I dislike Trachsel, its still better than paying 3/21 for Marquis.
  19. bowden fleeced both the rangers (for soriano...was he the gm then?) and the reds (for lopez and kearns). his team was operating with a significantly lower payroll than the cubs (and playing in a tougher division), and the nats won more games than the cubs. i'd probably rather have hendry than bowden, but it's not unthinkable that someone would rank him ahead of hendry. i don't know why hendry gets any kind of credit from anyone. since he's taken over the losses have increased each year (despite an increasing payroll) and the farm system has gone in the toilet. so he traded for ramirez and lee...what's that gotten him? Two words: Christian Guzman. Anyone GM who gives that player a four-year contract ranks towards the bottom. All things being equal, at least Hendry only gave Neifi a two-year contract. Cesar Izturis. Jason Marquis
  20. I don't like Soriano playing center until Pie is ready. Basically, by the time Soriano gets comfortable in center,he gets moved. Unless Pie plays right. Soriano can probably play either, but Jones is bad in right. His poor arm would be better in center.
  21. They've liked him for years.
  22. When they signed Soriano they said he would play a corner and stay there. He should play right and not center. Especially since Pie is considered the future. Let Jock play center until Pie is ready. Hes played it in the past. Hopefully by the deadline Pie will be ready. Then you can trade Jones. At the deadline his trade value will be at its highest. Plus he wasn't exactly an asset playing right. Can he be any worse in center? Theriot would be an option as would Murton. If Floyds any good he'll be taking at bats from Murton. I'd hate to see Murton on the bench and I believe any of the 3 i've mentioned can't be serviceable in center.
  23. If Sorianos playing right and leading off,who will be in center?
