  1. I'll come off the bench. I can't hit at all. I'll be da Gremlin or Neifi.
  2. Agreed. I'll just pretend there is a strike or something. I can't quit baseball. I just can't. I'll still follow this joke of a franchise if Dusty gets extended, I'll still watch all their games and I'll still go to a few a year. It's a disease I can't break. And the Cubs will take full advantage of fans just like me.
  3. Who should have been starting instead of Hill and Guzman? I've seen the stat that the Cubs have gone 1-15 in the "#5 starter position" ... but I honestly don't know how that #5 position was computed. I think the 1 win was Rusch vs. the Pirates. ETA: to change the verb tense re who should have been starting They should have traded some of the kids for a starter or signed someone. This would have been real unpopular tho, and the Cubs would have been criticized for wasting money or never giving the kids a chance. I'm basically taking the often heard "give the kids a chance" theory to task. The Cubs can't do the things Oakland and Atlanta can cause they don't draft well. Your last point is one that will get little to no argument.
  4. My White Sox fan friend called Dusty a miracle worker today. As long as no one seems to understand that our coaching staff actively tries to lower the team OBP and our manager refuses to bat high-OBP guys at the top of the order other than NSBB posters, no changes will be made. :(
  5. At least when the Royals and Pirates suck on a yearly basis, their fans know it's coming because ownership just refuses to spend money to get a better product on the field. Our ownership spends as much as just about anyone outside of the Sawx and Yanks and we still can't win a damn thing.
  6. Man, I forgot how ugly that year was. So does that mean 2007 will randomly kick ass? Just like 2003, 2007 should be the first year for a new manager as well.
  7. Agreed. Funny how he can have ~150 less homers than Sammy and is practically guaranteed...and there are doubts about Sammy's ability to get in. Especially when Thomas has just as much evidence of steroid use pointing at him as Sammy does (which is to say, none). I don't think Thomas has anywhere near as much pointing at him. Frank was always big, Sammy tripled in size during his career. I don't think Thomas used at all, but just because someone started using steroids before he became an everyday major leaguer doesn't mean it didn't happen.
  8. Murton up to 6th, Cedeno 8th. Solid.
  9. I guess the Cubs need to play in a dump so we can get street cred. If the Sox and the Cubs switched ballparks, maybe the Sox fans could get their due for being drunk at ballgames.
  10. apparently, pierre & jones can be beaten like a deadhorse, but bringing up the kids' failure means banning? interesting thought process. We gave up three pitchers, all of whom are pitching fairly well for Florida, for Pierre, who is putting up a worse OBP than Neifi did last season. Jones has been doubled off second base three times this season on stupid baserunning plays. (It should be noted that many on this board have let off Jacque lately since it became clear that he needs a platoon partner and because he has a knack for clutch home runs.)

Especially when Thomas has just as much evidence of steroid use pointing at him as Sammy does (which is to say, none). Sosa career: .274/.345/.537/.882, 129 OPS+ Thomas career: .307/.427/.568/.995, 161 OPS+ I'm not sure what those numbers are supposed to mean in the context of steroids, but it always amazes me how good those numbers are for a guy who doesn't get that much pub for being an all-time great.

Not to mention his tremendous leaping ability. There are players with excellent verts, and then there's Thomas. Fixed
  13. Wow, Matt Morris has been bad this season? Who didn't see that one coming? Didn't. Should have.

  15. Hey Brandon, Was it at all disappointing not to make the team after the spring training you had, and moreover not to get called up after Derrek Lee got hurt and it was clear the Cubs would need a first baseman for a while? Also, which MLB team would you most like to hit a walk-off home run against someday? Thanks for your time!

The lottery is at 6:30 CT on ESPN. Bulls are guaranteed a top-5 pick. Personally, I'm liking Brandon Roy more and more.
  17. The only difference between Ozuna and Neifi is the name on the front of his jersey. But for the New Cardinals, that's all you need.
  18. A's had 1st and 3rd with no one out and blew it in the 10th. On my annual 3-game trip to Wrigley last year, I saw Detroit blow two straight bases-loaded less than 2 out opportunities in two days against the Sox. I find it amazing how teams forget how to play the game when they play against this team.
  19. I just hope I become a national sportswriter so I can dispel the ludicrous myth that Wrigley faithful aren't real fans. From what I've seen the Wrigley fans are among the most knowledgeable and intelligent in baseball. Yeah, a few go to get drunk or "enjoy the Wrigley atmosphere". That's true of most ballparks.
  20. Excellent!! We'll have a full staff back by mid-June.... and we still won't be able to hit a lick. I'd rather watch Prior and Wood pitch than Rusch and Hill anyway. This team is done and I just want to take what I can out of this season.
  21. White Sox Fans. Most of the ones I know would fall under this category. The answer to the question is, we deserved one LONG ago. Now we're overdue.
  22. BTW, which Bears were watching? I hear Ricky Manning is a fan. Nah, I heard Peavy uses laptops in public. Manning wants to beat him down.
  23. The White Sox are the most bush league organization I have ever seen. We now have: A GM who openly calls players "***ing idiots" A manager who can't get a point across without using at least 10 f-bombs A catcher who is the 2nd most despised player in all of baseball A third-base coach who bites people in fights Fans who run out on the field and beat down 1st base umps/1st base coaches Why does all of this get rewarded by the fates with championships?
  24. At least I get to watch Wood pitch for one of the final times as a Cub.
  25. Just to rub it in, the A's blow a chance to win the game in the 10th (Thomas popout with 1st and 3rd 1 out) with the Sox winning on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the inning. The Cubs are the worst team in baseball, with their two biggest rivals among the best 4. I thought the end of 2005 was a low point, but this is 50 feet of crap below that.
