  1. Eyre, Z, and Barrett have shots. Todd Walker should have a shot but considering how ridiculously undervalued and underrated he is (and the fact he's been playing 1B) he will get passed over.
  2. Or anyone else (if they're smart).
  3. Time for a http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/vance_the_cubs_fan/cubsweep.jpg
  4. I plan to read this book at some point. I thoroughly enjoyed Cubs Nation and Bleachers: A Summer at Wrigley Field, which were more or less the 2004 and 1987 versions of this book respectively, and I assume this one is just as entertaining.
  5. Hendry and MacPhail.Unpossible. Some things posted about OBP on this site could have even gotten through their thick skulls.
  6. Nice to see that out of the Aardvark.
  7. Ken Rosenberg is absurdly nice to Cubs fielders sometimes. A big part of Ramirez's lowered error total in 2004 could probably be credited to Rosenberg.

In 1991, Fay Vincent distributed a memo stating that possession of any illegal substance was against baseball rules. Bonds WAS cheating.
  9. I hate Ozzie as a person, and I really don't think he's that good a manager, but he's a hell of a lot better than what we've got.
  10. This is getting ridiculous.
  11. It's easy to forget Wuertz was on the team to begin with.
  12. Sammy is not allowed back on the Cubs because he might actually hit a ball out of the infield. And at the height of his career he actually took a few walks too. Can't have that.
  13. This thread was only 17 pages on premium? That's even more pathetic than the non-premium game thread. What does it cut out? Premium pages are 20 posts long, non-premium is 15. That's the only difference.
  14. Wow, Detroit is really rolling. And to answer your question, the Cubs should keep losing until Dusty is fired or it becomes clear he won't come back. Doesn't matter who against. But I will say I am hoping the Sox don't win the division.
  15. I found it hilarious when the Cubs actively tried to reduce their HR total by dumping Alou and Sosa and bringing in Burnitz and Holly/Dubois to replace them, and still were near the top of the majors in homers last year. Clearly, their efforts to reduce their homer total worked this time...
  16. Does anybody over in the White Sox ever think about what they say, before the say it? Kenny Williams just proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is an idiot. Sure, Kenny...MLB could have suspended MB the day after the INCIDENT, but MB would have still appeal the decision, which means...Barrett would have still play the game, your friggin, mental midget. Apparently, Williams believes in the "he's guilty because he is a Cub, so he shouldn't get an appeal" theory. Anybody else think....that the White Sox won the WS DESPITE Kenny Williams? Yes, they did, but that had more to do with the bad (or at least neutral) moves that he made than it did with his being a friggin moron, which he is. [major rant]Oh and what's this "with our luck" crap? Kenny, you just traded for a guy who hit 7 homers last year and for all we know could've been one of those token post-steroid guys, and now he's going to hit 60. Jose Contreras, at the age of 65, is having one of the greatest runs of pitching in history. Your bullpen pitchers are all having their 2nd straight career years. AJ Pierzynski is hitting 50 points above his career average. Your closer, a former bar-fight denizen, is now one of the best in the game. Everyone you trade away either hits under .200, has an ERA above 9, or runs headlong into iron fences anymore. Carlos Lee is the only recently removed former White Sox that is having any kind of success at the big league level that I can think of. I have personally never seen a home run hitter get as many gopher balls to hit as Paul Konerko does (this was the case before Thome got there). Everyone you play seems to forget how to execute, as in the last two years I have seen more blown scoring chances against your team than I have even seen out of the Cubs, and that is saying something, my friend. You want "with our luck"? Watch the Cubs for a while.[/major rant] Now, if Kenny had made a snide remark about the fact that the Cubs have no chance of beating the Tigers anyway, thereby screwing up the Sox' chances, this would have been somewhat humorous.
  17. Yeah, that's certainly the impression a thread title that calls him "Dumpster" and suggests putting a fork in him gives. Am I the only one that uses the Dumpster nickname affectionately and was using it last year for fun?
  18. At least the Royals are supposed to suck.
  19. 2002 was a fun year - my baptism by fire of throwing myself full-bore into the Cubs (I'm 19 too).
  20. You mean the next 75 starts, right? I want Womack starting at second until DLee gets back and Todd can take over. I'm sick of Neifi's sub .200 on-base and Hairston being just plain stupid.
  21. I'd rather completely suck then win 70 games this year. Anyone with the same mindset? Absolutely. Much more entertaining to be completely terrible than disgustingly mediocre.
  22. None of these guys are getting to 300 wins, I think Maddux will be the last one probably ever. For a pitcher to get to 300 wins he needs to AVERAGE 15 wins/year for TWENTY years. For a comparison, Johan Santana, who is 27, has 63 wins and is averaging about 12.5 wins per season since he became a starter full time in 2002. He would need to continue that pace until the age of 46 to get to 300.
  23. It should be noted that if the Cubs are smart, they will shut Marshall down by mid-August at latest, because he's only thrown over 100 IP in a year once (2003).
