  1. So you're saying he's due
  2. The hell of it is this team needs more starting pitching to be a playoff factor even if they manage to get their way there and Jed has shown no appetite (not saying he's wrong in the long term, but he's shown no appetite) for going after game changing talent in season. So it just doesn't feel like this team has much of a chance to do anything unless all the bats get hot at once at a convenient time.
  3. That guy trying to go to third down 5 runs is one of the single dumbest TOOTBLANs I can ever remember.
  4. Counsell and trainer came out to see Palencia but no major issue apparently
  5. Don't remotely care about either. I know we aren't getting one without the other. If they put in an owner revenue cap after which their profits get distributed to the city, then I'm in for a player salary cap. Until then, hell no.
  6. That looks like a union attempt to have some sort of giveback in exchange for several demands that management is unlikely to give the time of day. It also gives them an easy talking point when it gets swatted down: "We literally offered them guaranteed profits and they rejected it"
  7. Team wide slumps won't be a thing THIS time we give a guy a horsefeathers ton of money for being good in the clubhouse.
  8. It's always a fun part of a losing streak when the team that hasn't scored worth horsefeathers in a week finally gets some offense on the day they give up 8 runs
  9. Cabrera to the injured list, which means 3/5 of the opening day rotation is on the IL
  10. My kid wants them to win but doesn't watch any games with me and will instantly check out if they're losing and I think I like his idea better
  11. I wonder how high you'd have to tell me Ian Happ's strikeout rate is with RISP before I'd start assuming you're full of it. I think you'd have to get to at least 40%
  12. Thing is, there's not much evidence 24 would generate much more money. ESPN already extended their CFP contract for 2026-32 at a number less than most media observers predicted. And The Athletic reported that FOX, who is driving this push for 24 largely because ESPN has the contract for a playoff up to 14, didn't even launch a bid. And it's not like the B1G title game generates peanuts, it's pretty darn lucrative too. There'd have to be a very large number for these extra games for the big 2 conferences not to lose money dumping their title games, and I'm not sure that number is there. In short, none of this makes any sense at all. I'm not optimistic a lack of interest will save CFB from itself on this, because that's not what happened with the NCAA tournament and it's never what happens ever, but we'll see.
  13. I don't know what organizations are supposed to do when two-thirds of the hitters they give big contracts to just immediately stop being good at hitting after they sign them, and the other one is Dansby Swanson, who was never actually very good at hitting and is getting worse
  14. I really don't have much against the Brewers, and in fact I'd be ok with them winning it all if the Cubs can't, but in 5 months they're probably going to get rolled by the Dodgers again and many of their fans are going to bitch for a salary cap for the next 5 months because of it and I'm going to want to strangle them all.
  15. The winds have shifted on CFP talk, as everyone but the SEC is apparently now in favor of a 24-team playoff that would remove all auto-bids, end conference title games and probably guarantee a G5/G6 spot (and likely only one, since the committee would conveniently stop ranking those teams now that those spots matter). The SEC is sticking to wanting a 16-team system that would likely preserve the title games; the SEC's is the biggest and most financially lucrative one. ACC commissioner went public saying ESPN, which has a contract for all the CFP games up to a 14-team system, doesn't want to expand beyond 16.
  16. Probably not the greatest thread for it but if you don't want to pay and don't mind walking a mile or so, you can usually find free parking in the little neighborhood streets north of the Clark/Southport intersection. If you don't want to walk, I believe the Cubs have free remote parking with bus service for night and weekend games - never used it so I don't know any details, but they mention it during every game broadcast.
  17. We're pushing 2 months in and he hasn't remotely been a difference maker offensively. I'm not panicking but I am very much concerned
  18. We spend years complaining about Jed not spending money on the bullpen and the first guy he spends money on sucks. Maybe he had a point
  19. Top tier goofiness from the Braves organist to play "Do You Hear What I Hear" during a pitchcom issue
