  1. He should be the #1 story in sports pretty much multiple times a week. Baseball fans in the 70s or whatever couldn't have possibly imagined someone being able to be elite at this many things
  2. Brian Kelly did more or less how I thought he would at LSU, though I underestimated how much LSU fans would hate him for it. The idea that a guy whose teams were rarely at their best in the biggest moments at Notre Dame was suddenly going to be able to coach his teams to 2-3 huge regular season wins (which is usually necessary to be near the top of the SEC) and then multiple postseason wins over elite teams was pretty silly.
  3. Three ranked vs ranked this week. Two ranked vs ranked next week.

  5. This board (and most of the country) will hate it but we are tracking towards a whole bunch of 10-2/9-3 SEC teams who will think they should be in the playoff It's a bad year to be, from a purely hypothetical perspective, a 10-2 team from outside the main conferences that every metric says is really good but won't have the resume to back it up
  6. I love that UCLA kicked a sad FG to get it to 28-3 late in the first half and Cignetti was like "oh screw you" and sent IU right down to score a TD in about a second and a half.

  8. I wonder what would've happened if somebody tried. It really seemed like he was going to the Dodgers all along and worked backwards from that, but maybe if someone had had the cojones to pay him what he's obviously worth he may have considered other teams?
  9. Yeah, it's fun to laugh at the Brewers, but for one thing I hate that this is giving ammunition to the much-too-large subset of fans that are on the owners' side in pushing for a salary cap, and for a second it is a bit annoying that LA just gets to buy whoever they want in part because their TV contract came up at the exact right time in the cable bubble cycle.
  10. Without going into the weeds too much (trust me, you don't want me to), it makes me very sad that ND/USC as we know it isn't going to exist anymore after this game.
  11. The only thing I can think of is Ballpark Village-type stuff, but I don't know what Philly's situation is there. A cursory Google says they were planning to construct one as of last year.
  12. Just to clarify, the owners are fine with a floor as long as the cap is ludicrously low. They proposed a cap/floor in the last CBA negotiations, but the cap was $180M (lower than 13 teams currently spend) and the floor was $100M (only 5 went below that this year). It was a completely unserious offer and no amount of negotiating would've gotten it to a reasonable place.
  13. The easiest way to explain the play was when the ball touched the top of the wall it became the same as if it touched the ground. It's in play and everyone has to move up or get forced out.
  14. Holy cow, I cannot believe Turang swung at that last pitch
  15. You want to know something funny? In a Slack I'm part of, someone described that play and how crazy it was without ever specifically saying which team was on which end. And I horsefeathers knew beyond all doubt the Brewers had benefited before I went to look up the video.
  16. To be frank, Tucker is probably too old to do that. He'll be 29 the next time he plays in an organized baseball game and any year he plays before gunning for a mega contract is just going to lower the value of that contract at this point. To say nothing of the owners militantly pursuing a salary cap after next season and probably torpedoing games to get it.

  18. James Franklin has been fired.
  19. I haven't had a chance to actually watch IU yet, but wow, the results indicate these guys are legit and a step above last year. Props to all involved. No more real tests on the schedule, so they're in position to cruise to Indy at 12-0 and get a bye. Mind blowing.
  20. As I said somewhere else, if Milwaukee had merely played like one of the best teams of all time for that massive chunk of the season where their record was that of a 125 win team or whatever the hell it was, rather than the unstoppable Voltron engine of death they masqueraded as, the Cubs would've won the division. Now, as it turned out the Cubs would've played in the wild card series anyway and would've been stuck with LA in round 2, so whatever, I guess, but still.
  21. It's the old "coverage starts" gambit. The game starts at 8:08
  22. Definitely use somebody else, no reason to burn through Keller for a 2nd inning when he'll likely be needed Saturday
  23. Happ is hitting the ever loving horsefeathers out of the ball tonight Everyone is getting hot now
