  1. I doubt the Ricketts' permission was an issue for Fox News. If the Cubs for some reason had forbidden it and Shaw had gone Snake Plissken Escape from Cincinnati and battled his way past 4 or 5 armed staffers on the way out to go to the funeral, they'd have loved that too.
  2. Just so it's on the record, Shaw is several years younger than Kirk and they do not share hometowns or any other connection to suggest they were actually personal friends. Not saying it's impossible, there's just no evidence of it.
  3. The Athletic is reporting the funeral was Kirk's.
  4. You got leapfrogged by a Miami team with 3 wins that are somewhere between 'good' to 'very good.' It frankly should've happened already.

  6. Luke Fickell being at least quite solid at Wisconsin felt like a really easy bet a few years ago and it just has never gone well at all. Very hard to believe.
  7. CBS' game presentation has long been the gold standard for me. They do a great job. It's a pity they usually don't get the caliber of games to live up to it these days.
  8. So Clemson is straight up atrocious now huh?
  9. I believe it was. That was an excellent weekend.
  10. I agree, feels like avoiding lefty-stacked rotations as long as possible would be the best situation.
  11. I've thought this basically since the beginning. I do think I heard somewhere that TMac is friends with him and that's what we're picking up on, but I can't find a specific source on that.
  12. The last time an 0-2 team was ranked at all was 1988 Michigan (lost to ND and Miami at the buzzer to start the season), and they didn't lose again and ended up winning the Rose Bowl. I'm hoping this is a good omen. I couldn't possibly care any less whether or where ND is ranked because unless several of their future opponents end up much better than they're projected to be, I don't think they're making the playoff anyway. The power structure of the sport feels determined to rectify whatever strength of schedule "glitches" (I use this in quotes because I had no problem with the field) gave us SMU and Indiana last year.
  13. The first tiebreaker is head to head but the teams were 3-3 against each other so it moves on to the next one

  15. After getting punked by New Mexico and Old Dominion respectively. Checks out. I'd say poor UCLA fans but I'm not sure how many they have besides Raisin. Being USC's tag-team partner in the final destruction of the Pac-12 might be the last relevant thing they do for a while, that program is completely directionless
  16. That is a completely ridiculous call by the replay ump, but at least we're on the right end of one of those for once
  17. With the new expanded playoff making the offseason shorter and the CFB season now mirroring the NFL in so many ways, I wonder if the "post-Super Bowl hangover" thing will make its way into the sport for national runners-up. In a related story, Notre Dame's season is effectively over and most of us are ready to ship this new DC Chris Ash to Abu Dhabi
  18. I haven't seen them yet, but it seemed like an issue when Coach Prime decided neither of the 2 guys who was in the preseason QB battle was going to start tonight
  19. Missouri's home game vs UL Lafayette has reportedly been moved up from 4 to 1 pm ET due to excessive heat expected at kickoff.
  20. Is there such a thing as a fake push for insurance runs? Doesn't sound as cool as fake rally, but that's what that felt like
  21. The amount of money paid to middling NBA players compared to what even excellent NFL players make given the varying career lengths and physical attrition in the two sports is actually legit annoying if you think about it for too long.
  22. TBF in September, anyone in a position to help the team is already on the roster, so it's whatever.
