Luke Fickell being at least quite solid at Wisconsin felt like a really easy bet a few years ago and it just has never gone well at all. Very hard to believe.

CBS' game presentation has long been the gold standard for me. They do a great job. It's a pity they usually don't get the caliber of games to live up to it these days.

The last time an 0-2 team was ranked at all was 1988 Michigan (lost to ND and Miami at the buzzer to start the season), and they didn't lose again and ended up winning the Rose Bowl. I'm hoping this is a good omen. I couldn't possibly care any less whether or where ND is ranked because unless several of their future opponents end up much better than they're projected to be, I don't think they're making the playoff anyway. The power structure of the sport feels determined to rectify whatever strength of schedule "glitches" (I use this in quotes because I had no problem with the field) gave us SMU and Indiana last year.

It's been 7 years since Carolina was even competitive let alone good*. Don't even know why I use time on this. * not including their incredible ability to start winning games as soon as the only effect is making their draft pick worse

South Florida might just be really good. They beat the hell out of Boise State in week 1 and won in the Swamp in week 2. They're far and away the leader for the G5's one auto-bid right now.

Wake Forest and North Carolina did this too, in 2019 and 2021. The conferences are too large.
