    I know in theory it's a bad look, but honestly I think I understand it here. First of all Ballmer is worth a horsefeathers ton more money than Kawhi will ever be. More importantly, the salary cap (leaving aside my thoughts on it as a concept) is the owners' tool to limit player compensation. They have to bring the hammer down when an owner takes steps like this to violate it, otherwise the tool has no meaning. Players can request their bosses do something like this all they want, but no one has to say yes.

    Maybe Peterson has a Hendricks-style 81 pitch shutout in him, it's our best chance to win this one

    Shota isn't going anywhere right now. Counsell always signals if he's going to make a move like that and he's been steadfast in supporting Shota staying in the rotation.

    It is just so frustrating that we're this good on offense and have one of the best individual Cubs seasons literally ever unfolding and thanks to the pitching apocalypse we're staring down the barrel of a road wild card series

    Assad apparently can't come back up, barring an injury, for a few more days. He has to be down in Iowa for 15 days from when he got sent down.

    FWIW I think there was a report yesterday that Dansby's rehab is going well and there's optimism he'll be on the short side of that 4-6 weeks.

    Win some damn games. The division is a nonissue, we'd have to sweep all 7 to put that on the table and that's obviously not going to happen.

    Really would've been nice to have a guy or two on for Pete there. He's in full 2005 D Lee mode where you're always doing the math to figure out when he bats next

    TBF not every team is going to blast home runs at this rate on us, even if the pitching does suck that kind of thing doesn't happen for a month straight.

    It's an NBC thing. If they can't get a truly awesome color guy, this is probably the best move. Benetti seems to play well in this arrangement, so at least there's that.

    Assad needs to be brought up and put back in the rotation. He might blow up at some point but even if he does that would just put him on par with everyone else pitching for us anyway

    This is such a nothing issue by comparison to everything else in this sport but I wonder if we're going to start calling "Week Zero" Week One next year. It's officially a rule now that everyone can start their season this weekend starting next year, no waivers necessary
