  1. I really don't get what you have agianst what he has done or is doing. Everytime he is quoted in the paper he makes it clear that losing makes him sick, that he and his mates are to blame, and that the fans have every right to be peeved. What is wrong with this? I agree. Barrett is a guy that knows what he's talking about, and this team would do well to listen to him and Walker more often.
  2. I wouldn't want Ozzie either, but anything is an improvement on Dusty at this point.
  3. This could be interesting. I hope no birds come in the general vicinity of Wrigley for the next couple days
  4. And yet idiotic pitchers and managers continue to walk him.
  5. Unreal..."shakin' up the lineup" keeps going to new lows... Yesterday's lineup was lower than this one. And why does Dusty feel the need to play Jerry all of a sudden? He doesn't play him for like a month and now he's getting all the starts? And WHERE THE HELL IS MURT?
  6. they didn't copy boston's jamesball. They copied the "Idiot" clubhouse mentality by getting rid of all the malcontents (including the broadcasters)
  7. Very likable guy IMHO, not quite Dempster-esque but definitely someone I'd have a drink with.
  8. 4 months until ND and the Panthers start :-k World cup coming up. Not usually a soccer guy, but I will actually be following the Cup this year.
  9. I don't mean for this to sound the way it sounds but did Baker or Hendry actually say that they were trying to spark the Cubs by bringing up Theriot? It seems more likely that they just didn't like Restovich and wanted someone else that was already on the 40 man roster to replace him. So Baker's idea of making a change is the 25th man gets replaced. At least Theriot is benefitting from the move. I don't see how he's benefitting apart from more per diem money
  10. 4 months until ND and the Panthers start :-k
  11. Are you kidding? They just do what we're doing for money. none of us are contractually obligated to watch every day, every game, every inning. I personally don't think I could do it. it just hurts too damn much. For their paychecks, I could live with it. I'd just have lots of little funny stories pre-prepared for each game.
  12. I figured it was my turn to start a "I hate Dusty Baker" thread. I know this will be merged with other existing threads, but I just took my turn in the rotation.
  13. 2004 - one "cursed" team wins it all the same year the most talented Cubs team in a generation blows the wildcard lead in the last week of the season 2005 - another "cursed" team wins it all, the Cubs are depressingly bad, and oh yeah, the cursed team is the crosstown rival and the fans make fun of us for the whole offseason 2006 - the Cubs are the worst team in the history of baseball, with the most criminally stupid organization ever to come to power, and the major league rivals are watching the single best hitter to come into this league maybe ever, and the crosstown rivals are going to win their 2nd straight pennant Seriously, can we just die?
  14. Pierre back leading off - check Neifi batting second when Ronny, Murton, Hairston, even Mabry would be better options - check Murton still hitting behind Mabry - check Jacque Jones sitting against a righty - check I seriously want Dusty to go home. Just go back to California and wait for a call. From another team.
  15. Gamer also works, or you can just talk about his intangibles. Or just say he saved you.
  16. I'm on record as thinking he was. Williams's offseason in 2004 was pretty bad and he got lucky with many of his acquisitions. But this last offseason he did a really fantastic job.
  17. Obviously Walt Jocketty and the rest of the front office thought they would perform well. Query: Is it possible that the Cards have developed a system like the one the 90's Bulls had or the recent Pats did where you take unremarkable players (like Miles, Rodriguez, and Nunez of last year) and plug them into a methodology that allows them to be significant contributors? I don't buy this theory. Baseball is baseball, and the objective is always to get on base. There really aren't that many different ways to do it. In basketball and football, you can plug unremarkable players into "systems" to maximize their strengths, but there's really nothing similar in baseball. After all, only one person in the Cards' lineup can hit in front of Pujols.
  18. Restovich may not be very good, but he should be platooning with Jones. He can't do any worse against lefties than KoJock. Nevertheless, it's been real nice to see him hitting, as he was really the only guy hitting fairly consistently during the losing streak.
  19. I suppose the good thing about this is that Barrett, Jones and Murton aren't being broken up by Mabry's sorry bat. Then again, we could accomplish that by batting Mabry eighth too... :x
  20. What a sexist comment. Kidding.
  21. Prior for Cano, eh? We "need that 2B", eh? Last I checked, we have one hitting .300, and have for over two seasons now. Goes by Todd Walker.
  22. We actually have 2 capable backups this year: 1997 National Championship Brian Griese 10-5 as a starter Kyle Orton <--- never seen a 10-5 QB hated as much as Orton was most of last year.
  23. Treeman started an injury thread just for things like this.
  24. When was the last time a milestone was reached against the Cubs? #62? Remember that Clemens had a chance to get his 300th win against the Cubs and it didn't happen. I don't think we give up milestones very often.
