  1. So basically four pitchers' spots in today's lineup. Great...
  2. He answered a smart-ass question (about himself) with a smart-ass answer. He didn't begin a thread to talk about someone else's homosexuality. That's not what I'm talking about. Wow. Absolutely absurd homophobia by Jim in that chat. Any comments? Reaction? He was asked a gay question, and responded with a gay answer. Wow. I thought you were a defender of homophobia but as it turns out you are just a defender of Cardinals. Jim Edmonds is clearly a massive homophobe yet you give him a free pass while chastising this message board. What gives? Jim Edmonds didn't start this thread. Nor did he start the other one. Nor did he ask the gay question. He responded to a gay question, with a gay answer. I don't defend all Cardinals. Encarnacion is worthless. The numbers say so. Sidney Ponson has lived his life as a jerk. His history is well-documented. If there's founded criticism, then have at it. Making gay jokes isn't "founded criticism". It's nothing more than an attempt to get a reaction. Congrats.......... you've gotten one. It's no big deal though, because gay questions and answers are more or less ho-hum in this country, right?
  3. Yep.. then if they pull out a win in Game 5, the pressure is on Miami... they'll have to win it here. I was at the game. It was AWESOME. We were also the first people in the stadium to see Jordan... He was about 50 feet from us, we saw his son sitting in the suite in the pre-game warmups. That's awesome. Was there a lot of empty seats tonight? I know sometimes they say sellout but in reality there's some empty seats. Man I wish I was home so I could go to one of these games. Stupid school. I feel you. I bought tickets to Game 6 under the assumption that finals would be over by then, but the NBA decided for the first time in about a billion years not to put three or four days in between all the games, and Game 6 is a day before I get out. Unbelievable.
  4. But by God, those were the most artistically ingenious hits of LSD that have ever been taken!!!!
  5. Edmonds: "I wonder how it would look if I decided to dress like a slutty teenage girl...WOW! It looks fantastic! I'll wear this all season!"
  6. Sample size.
  7. Wake THEM up? It woke up the UC, I'll tell you that much. Posey's free safety bull**** on Hinrich is the dirtiest play I can remember seeing in the NBA and he'll definitely be gone for Game 4 giving Miami one less shooter. I see the Bulls winning Game 4 and putting the pressure on Miami going back to South Beach.
  8. There are Cardinal fans that swear the Cards were after him too...though I don't know what the difference between Jones and Encarnacion is. At the moment, 36 points of Avg (in favor of Encarnacion), 5 points of OBP (Encarnacion), and 80 points of slugging (Jockstrap).
  9. 7 pm CT on TNT tonight. The Bulls better win - I want to see them make this a series.
  10. This thread begs one major question: How the hell did Tony Clark get a no-trade clause?
  11. I've gotten Wood before, but without much interaction. You almost have to wonder if this sentence was written this way on purpose.
  12. I was there when Froemming made an absolutely abysmal safe call for a San Diego player while Nomar was turning a double play. I could tell he was out from my 3rd base line upper deck seat. And if I'm not mistaken, the player ended up scoring, and the Cubs lost by one.
  13. Rusch will get an extra day of rest and start on Saturday, presumably to avoid throwing Greg off his normal routine while he is pitching like this.
  14. This was the longest game thread since Opening Day.
  15. This ones about to be locked too. Check the minor league forum. Oh. I thought it was a mod snafu.
  16. So Delmon Young tossed a bat at an umpire tonight. He's in trouble, eh? (posted because both other threads were locked)
  17. Neither one of them impress me as a player who would do well as a Cub - certainly not to justify the expense. But if Hendry had to spend too much money on a FORMER Marlin, I wish he had opened the checkbook wide for Luis Castillo. I don't think the Cubs would have needed Pierre in that case (if they do now), and for the amount Hendry overpaid for Pierre and that puzzling JJ signing, getting Castillo instead would have been well worth the extra dough. The biggest problem would be how to kick Neifury to the curb - $2 mil for 2 years was one heck of an insurance policy for a Cub middle IF. JMO. I know, no way in H-E-double hockey stix the Cubs are able to trade for him... Actually, that's one deal I might consider giving the Twinkies a second shot at Prior for. You'd trade Prior for Castillo? Castillo had a much better 2005 than Pierre, with a .391 OBP and a.765 OPS, and at least the last few years sure seems like a better leadoff option than SlapNasty. That said, we already have Walker at second/first, and trading Prior for Castillo is a terrible, awful, no-good, very bad idea.
  18. Are you willing to stay there for an entire day longer for a chance to rub it in the Brewers fans' faces after we win at Wrigley? Vance, best start to the game thread of 2006 by far and you stole my political joke re: Bush.
  19. I personally find it amazing that Dusty has decided that Jacque sucking against lefties just didn't happen unless he sees it with his own eyes first. He's like the Joe Morgan of managers.
  20. The Cubs are getting better production than any of us could have realistically hoped for from Cedeno, Marshall, Walker and the bullpen.
  21. My astronomy professor probably won't, being as she's Indian. But I'll skip class anyway. Now if Angel Guzman was making his cricket debut against Pakistan, she wouldn't be there... Next time I make an inappropriate joke I'll stick with "Jim Edmonds is gay".
  22. I love the youthful exuberance. I think Murt and Cedeno will be starting for the Cubs for a long time coming and I can't wait to see it. Murt's the best pure young hitter I've personally seen break in with the Cubs.
  23. I haven't. I could tell something was different about this kid right from the start. I've never seen someone come up and just start raking like he did and he's just gotten better from there. His OBP is above .370 now, I believe. And I don't think he's come up with the Cubs trailing after the 6th and men on yet this year and not made something happen. He's a stud.
  24. Ok, this has been a weird thread, but... 1) This is a fantastic board. Yes, once in a while there's too much complaining. But as has been said before and will be said again, it's a message board and there's likely to be a lot more disagreement about a comment like "Jones sucks" than there is about "what a great 2 out hit by Murton". 2) The only person that's been banned since I've been here that one could even begin to make a case for keeping is the one that insulted Wrigley and said Miller was better, and even then, you don't do that on your first posts on a new board. 3) Yes, the posters that have been here longer probably have a longer leash. For instance there is one particular one that insulted a mod in a game thread today and probably would've been banned had he been new. But if you've built up a long track record of being a pretty good poster, of course you're going to get more chances than someone who just shows up and starts trashing people that same day. And rightfully so. 4) The best way to not get into a flame war is to not assume much if anything. If you are not certain of what someone meant by a post, ask. And if you are angry about a post, then explain why and don't use personal attacks or name calling. I'd say well over 75 percent of the flame wars on this board start when one poster goes over the top and insults another one during an argument when they simply could have explained their position better. That's all.
  25. An argument I was making before DLee went down.
