  1. I honestly think we'll be better once we do sell off. Other than Garza, we have a capable replacement or someone already better, ready to come up.
  2. Might as well see if he can become a tradeable piece. Because Wells is certainly not a part of the future here.
  3. Those 5 being off the board and serious questions about Giolito is our worst case scenario. At that point, I think it'd come down to Fried or Correa for me. And Fried only because I really, really want pitching at 6, even knowing we need to go BPA.
  4. Yeah, we can keep him there half a season or longer, same with Brett. Give them more confidence, more sustained success, and it doesn't hurt us or them one bit.
  5. Next year, instead of every team having 2.9 mill to spend, it'll go from 5 mill for the worst record, down to 1.8 mill. Every little bit helps, but with the amount of players that get signed along with the fact some teams don't spend much anyway, this could very easily become a big deal. Not to mention, if the Cubs are looking to add some MLB FA next off-season, they could really exploit this next year, go over their amount, and take the penalty of not being allowed to sign anyone over 250,000 the following season.
  6. I'm pretty sure Theo said 28 as his target age for bigtime FA, right? Upton and Greinke fit that, although Greinke and his anxiety issues give me pause for sure.
  7. If he's been stretched out that much, he'll be headed to Daytona very soon, is my guess.
  8. I've seen reports that Almora definitely has a shot at going inside the top 10.
  9. Fontana won't make it to us in the supplemental. I'll be shocked if we don't take a really high upside guy at 6.
  10. Bears signed Geno Hayes.
  11. I like the Rachal signing. I think he'll wind up starting for us honestly. Sulley, I think the dream of getting Jenkins in the 4rd or 4th is over. Kiper has him going in the early 2nd at this point. I want WR, DE and O Line taken in the 1st 3 rounds. Don't care what order, other than I doubt there's value in the 3rd when it comes to the O Line.
  12. I kind of like O'Brien but don't think he'll stick at C. Not really a fan of Tucker at all. But I like the idea of taking one of them or some other highly thought of senior, because we should be able to underslot them and use it towards a high upside guy somewhere else early. He'll, I'd love to take 3 or 4 seniors inside the top 10 rounds.
  13. Bengals select WR Juron Criner with their 3rd round pick. Tossed a coin between him and Jairius Wright.
  14. Nothing super spectacular yet that I know of, but I mean any No. 1 overall should be pretty good. Karsten Whitson is the very early favorite to go first. Way too early though, still time for someone to come in and be an uberstud.
  15. Dempster and money for prospects. The root of backtobanks problem is that's what he's got for us, as far as trade proposals go.
  16. Gotta be. Said he's BPA.
  17. I totally get that game threads are where it's easier to be irrational. And no one wants to see their favorite team lose. But the writing was on the wall for this season before it started. Sure, hope for the best, but try and enjoy the process. Because if anyone's truly getting pissed over THIS team losing, it's kind of unhealthy.
  18. In the grand scheme of things, you're absolutely correct. My issue was the reaching. I'd even have went a safer route, in this exact scenario. And I would usually be all about upside. I hate to say it, but there wound up being very few good options for us in that spot, I guess I just will always look at this one, like it was Al Davis, a stopwatch, and a 4.35. Guy may be a 4th rounder, but you have to prove you're seeing something no one else does and take him early. At least, that draft hasn't been littered with guys we can get pissed about.
  19. If we were picking at 8 or so, I'd give Stroman serious consideration. The guys I think are clearly ahead of him are Appel, Zimmer, Gausman, Zunino, Buxton, Giolito and Correa. He falls in with Wacha, Fried, and maybe a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.
  20. I honestly think we wanted Whitson. I'll admit the guys I wanted us to take haven't done a damned thing. Josh Sale and Stetson Allie. Wimmers wouldn't have been a popular choice, but he was definitely safer. My guess is you're right about spending, to an extent. In signing Golden and Wells, all it did was basically make up for the underslot of Simpson. I figure they could've found someone at 16 who was willing to take slot and we would have been fine still spending on Golden and Wells.
  21. I really don't even understand why anyone gets upset with a loss this year. It's about finding guys who will be on this team when we've turned it around. Camp, Lopez, Kerry Wood, Dewitt, Johnson, Mather, and Soriano are of no consequence to us. They either suck or have no chance of being dealt. I'm hopeful that some of Dempster, Maholm, Marmol, Soto, Baker, LaHair, Byrd, and DeJesus play well. Because they have a shot at turning into something else that actually helps us down the road. Anyone not mentioned? They ALL have a chance to be on the Cubs when this thing is turned around, so just watch and hope to see progress. If you're sitting there, throwing remotes and screaming during 2012, it's the wrong way to look at things. Period.
  22. Agreed, but the reports on both seem very solid at least.
  23. I am hopeful Acosta and Malave stick and play in Arizona this season.
  24. I wonder if the Fausto Carmona issue has slowed this process down? That said, it may have happened before Cespedes and it didn't affect him. Just spitballing, but this had better come to a head before July 2nd, or else we've got some big decisions to make, concerning the IFA period.
  25. The Angels had a pick in the 50's that they were targeting him with. The mystery team was using a supplemental rounder as well. I'm just not of the belief Wilken didn't see 16 players in that draft that were better than him. He also said it was not a monetary decision. At the very least, it was a very risky pick, especially since he was a smallish pitcher, pitching for a small school. The right thing to do was to take someone considered to be in the mid first draft area and hope he fell past the 2 teams down to the 2nd, where it wouldn't hurt as bad, if he busted. Like I mentioned earlier, this pick smelled of Wilken wanting to brag to his buddies about finding a diamond in the rough.
