Almora appears to be on a fast rise, same with Correa, ala Baez last year. I like Fried quite a bit and would lean towards him personally, although I admit need plays a factor here for me. Talent is close enough to take the pitcher, for Mr anyway. My hope though, is Giolito puts himself back into the discussion.
12 man staff, every man for himself. Each guy closes his own start, no matter what. Forget relief pitching, righty versus lefty, pitch counts, all of it. If you can't go 9, every time out when you're pitching on a minimum 12 days rest, you don't belong on a major league roster. Oh, and if we wind up going extra innings? Our pitchers will be taught to be more economical, pitching to contact. Not a problem. The Cubs Way is highlighted and it's "Finish your own isht"
Two very interesting tidbits.....Callis was asked where Appel would have went last year and his answer was 8-12. Keith Law listed some teams and their preferences and listed the Cubs' with Fried and Almora. Not sure if the college arms were an implied interest or not.
Screw taking another DE. Whether we like it or not, we took ours. Move on to another position that needs filling. Guys I'd trade up for would be Hill, Fleener, Glenn, and Jenkins.
They also coach for Clemson. OK? They recruited both players and they played against them every season. And they HATE South Carolina with a passion. Your point is what?
I like Hill much more than any WR left. I also think he's the biggest upside guy left, other than Jenkins, who I can't see us trading up for, for a myriad of reasons. I figure we'll be picking in the 20's next year as it is, so adding Hill, who I think can give us a phenomenal group of WR's, makes sense to me. It'd give us the ability to add a DT and a OG/OT in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and we'd probably be able to snag Dennard in the 4th. The downside is all we'd have next year is a 2nd, but we'd have a full season to address that as well.
I hate to say it, but I would give up our 1st next year, to get 33 and take Hill. It'd leave us with one pick in the first three rounds next year, but I'd do it. Take a DT and O Linemanin the 2nd and 3rd, and hope one of Dennard or Hosley lasts until the 4th. Our 1st next year, should be in the 20's and I think having Hill alongside Marshalls would give us an elite passing attack.
The fact Emery said he's adaptable must make Lovie cringe. If we wind up with a new head coach that runs a 3-4, at least this guy fits. Still, not the type guy that helps put us over the top, to me at least.
I definitely would have taken DeCastro over anyone on the board. I would have been pleased with Wright. I've never been sold on Reiff as a LT personally, but I do think Carimi could play there, so adding a RT would have been good. I guess we'll just have to see on McClellin, but as far as impact goes, I just don't see him making as big of one as the guys I just mentioned.
At DT, you've got Still, Worthy, Reyes, and Thompson. If we go CB, you've got Robinson, Jenkins, Boykin, and Trumaine Johnson. If we take something other than DT, CB, O Line, or a receiver in the 2nd, I'll be pissed.
Plenty of O Line options at 50 too. Martin, Adams, and Massie all worth it. At guard, Cordy Glenn is obvious, Silatolu and Osemele are decent value as well. Konz. Is damn good, I just don't want to take a C that high, although he could play OG too.
There's probably going to be a WR run early tomorrow night. The guys I'd take at 50 would be Hill, Randle, Jeffery, Sanu, and Quick. Fleener won't make it to us either. I like Allen personally, but I'd prefer a WR.
At least that makes me feel a bit better. I guess we'll see how good at scouting Emery is. He took the correct need anyway. But I'm still wishing we took DeCastro.
