  1. Your definition of high upside must be a lot different than mine is. Because Wallach and Smit were nothing remotely close to having high upside.
  2. We need to knock this draft out of the park.
  3. AZPhil with loads of news, none of which can be considered good. Baez was hit in the wrist today in the 1st inning and left the game. Acosta, Malave, and Arcila went back to the Dominican.
  4. Not making excuses for him, but with this much of a difference between EXST and Peoria, it makes me wonder if he's healthy.
  5. I think I'd go Giolito, Buxton, Gausman, Zunino, Appel, Zimmer, Correa, Fried and Almora. At this point, I think it's one of that group.
  6. Great hitter or not, it's going to be hard to live up to 240 million and he's probably trying too hard to do that right now. I'm sure he'll bust out of it, but he's dug himself quite a hole to end up with normalish numbers for this season.
  7. Cubs were in attendance to watch Gausman pitch last night.
  8. Travis Wood is at Wrigley, in case. Garza can't go tomorrow.
  9. I asked Callis on Twitter which of Appel, Gausman, or Zimmer was most likely to be available at 6 and he said Zimmer, but not likely any of them fall.
  10. I'm trying my best not to wish harm on Philly fans right now for cheering at Noah's injury.
  11. I didn't mind us resigning Woody, but it's probably only because Ricketts forced it on Theo. Our pen would suck with or without him though, so in the end, it doesn't really matter. OTOH, we need some runs, if we're going to win this game.
  12. Theo's telling Tom right now that this is why you don't cave in to fan pressure.
  13. With MacDougal also getting DFA'd, my guess is our pen has a new edition soon. Braddock may fit better since he's a lefty, but Maine was passable when he was up, so who knows? But I think the Castillo experiment could end soon personally, even if it means we wind up trading for him.
  14. Barney is a perfect backup middle infielder.
  15. Under, please. I hope it's under as well, but I don't see him sticking as a starter.
  16. I'm going to put the over/under at 3 on how many saves our future closer winds up with this year for the Cubs. His name is Trey McNutt.
  17. LaHair is at 1.4 WAR right now, after 26 games. I think it's very safe to say, unless TT is correct and LaHair is a wiccan, this is going to be his best stretch of the season by far. It's going to be extremely hard for him to be a 5 WAR player and that's not a knock on him whatsoever.
  18. All in all, I am really disappointed with how poorly our system as a whole, has started out. I'm not going to go player by player right now, but the only guys to have stepped up whatsoever to date, are Burke and Kirk. I expected Rizzo to kill AAA and thought Brett would be fine. But out of the guys I thought could take leaps forward, those two are it. And quite a few are headed backwards.
  19. The new CBA is probably going to change the trade value somewhat on midseason deals on guys like Dempster. If a team acquires him, even if he's traded today, they won't have an opportunity to receive compensation for him. If we keep him all season, we can then offer him 12.5 mill, hope he declines, and then hope a team is willing to sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal and lose their upcoming 1st round pick in the process. Which we would NOT get, by the way, it's just forfeited. Our compensation would be one comp pick after the 1st round. So my guess is no matter how well he pitches, his value is less than the value of a comp pick. Our best case scenario may be to package him and LaHair together. If both are doing well, I could see a really nice, unexpected haul coming back to us.
  20. Is it even arguable as far as him being the greatest closer ever?
  21. Torn ACL for Mariano.
  22. The Yankees have Soriano to close if Mariano misses time. And the rest of their pen has performed phenomenal so far this year. No way in hell they'd have any interest at all in Marmol.
  23. It's awesome that we're now thinking if LaHair doesn't improve his K rate, he may not be better than "decent" Adam Dunn. It's hard to believe what he's done.
