  1. God, I would love that deal to happen. It's kind of perfect too, sets him up beyond belief, yet probably saves us a 80 or 100 mill in the process. More than that from a value standpoint.
  2. With his body type, I think Castro will average 25 homers a year in his prime. I think he'll get 12-15 THIS year.
  3. Most disappointing to me would be Marmol, Wood, and Barney. First two, because if they had been good, we'd probably be a tad over. 500 right now. Barney is on here for me, because if he could be a legit. 700 OPS guy, it'd be one less hole for us to worry about, but I don't think he can. Soto gets a dishonorable mention, a good half year could really have enhanced his trade value. The three best are Shark, LaHair, and Castro. First two have stepped up beyond my wildest scenarios, while Castro has just continued making progress. The power will come in bunches, is my guess. Honorable mention is Dempster, Garza, and even Maholm. All three have been either damn good or very solid.
  4. Yeah, if that's the top 5, I think I'd take Correa at 6. But I'll be surprised if he's there when all is said and done. If Giolito is there, he's not healthy, so I guess I'm staying away from him in that scenario.
  5. With Theo wanting high upside types, I'd be shocked if Giolito isn't on the list of 10. My guess is it's Buxton, Correa, Almora, Zunino, Giolito, Fried, Appel, Gausman, Zimmer and Hawkins.
  6. Baez was back in the EXST lineup today. AZPhil made mention a few days ago of something that I figure will wind up getting lots of play on here over the next few years........Baez has yet to take a professional walk in 97 plate appearances between last season and EXST.
  7. For whatever may be going wrong; Soto, Soriano's lack of power, Marmol, Wood, Barney, not thinking anyone else is getting bitched about, so I'll cut it off there anyway.....We also have lots of stuff going right this year that matters much more in the grand scheme of things. Shark, Castro, Garza(for either direction we take) LaHair, the rest of the pen looking passable at least, Dempster and Maholm looking like solid trade bait, the coaching staff looking like they have an actual clue and a front office that's actually executing what they want to do. I'm fine with our curent situation, basically, because it's getting better and it's looking much better now than it did for me right before Opening Day.
  8. Where does our starting staff rank in baseball right now? There's quite a bit of damn good pitching throughout baseball and my guess is we're actually middle of the pack.
  9. Maybe, but it's awfully early to try and buy anything right now. If anything, I think we have to hope that Soriano goes on a hot streak, which is definitely possible. And then hope that while LaHair cools off, Stewart and Soto make up for it. Plus, I think our reenforcements for this year will be Rizzo and Brett, instead of actually looking towards the trade market.
  10. I see the Japanese groundscrew in Major League right now......"They're still shitty."
  11. I'd still have to get like 5-1 or something on the Cubs reaching .500 thing.
  12. I'll make a bold prediction and say it now; Geovany Soto will NOT be on the next Cubs World Series winner. But, for all that's holy, you let him work through things, so when the time comes to deal him, he's getting you a decent return. He's been a very solid player for us for a while. He'll work through things.
  13. Wonder if we go with Dolis for the 9th or just keep Russell in with Chipper and Heyward coming up?
  14. Was he not interested in baseball or just boring as all hell?
  15. Is he that, or the Witch-King of Angmar?
  16. How about baserunning from last year to this one? 3rd in BsR this year, 29th last year. Good lord, it's great to see a group that preaches fundamentals actually be able to show you that they mean it.
  17. How about baserunning from last year to this one?
  18. Sounds about right, but I can't remember who came back for Gorzelanny. I suppose that says something. Gorz had questions about durability and maturity. True. He may would bring back a slightly better return. As for who we got for Gorz, it was Michael Burgess, a former supplemental rounder who was averagish with the Nats, but was a top 10ish type prospect for them at the time of the trade, AJ Morris, a pitcher who was a borderline top 20ish prospect for them but had injury issues, and I think some projectable lefty SP named Hicks. I think he was a 4th round pick out of high school and had some upside, but had struggled for them. I remember thinking at the time, we got a hell of a package for him anyway, obviously didn't pan out though.
  19. If Maholm were to be dealt, I'd think we could get a return along the lines of what we got for Gorzelanny. Gorzelanny was cheaper and had an extra year or so of control, but Maholm is slightly better at the very least.
  20. What happened? Did they try and send Castro home for an inside the parker? Was it even close?
  21. N&G: You don't think it's at least worth TRYING him in LF for a 10-20 game stretch?
  22. Oh, I could absolutely see the best pitcher from this class being Giolito, in fact I guess I'd say he's my odds on favorite to be. But, for now anyway, until he pitches for teams again, I doubt he's truly in consideration for us at 6. In fact, if he impresses us enough to take him at 6, I figure it means he's impressed other teams as well and he doesn't make it to us anyway.
  23. Yeah, like I said, I'd cetainly be happy if we got him, but this just seems like a draft that the best pitcher longterm winds up being someone we may have a shot at in the supplemental round or even later. The threesome of Appel, Gausman, and Zimmer would all be nice, but I don't think any of them end up being the best pitcher out of this class. Doesn't mean they're not worth us taking obviously, because for now, they do have much more value than a Lucas Sims, Zach Eflin, Duane Underwood, or whoever else may wind up being the best of this class longterm. Someone's going to take a giant step forward, kind of like Carlos Rodon has this season at NC State.
  24. Nothing is wrong with him honestly. If we take him, I'm sure I'd be happy about it. But I am kind of falling into the camp of wondering why he doesn't miss more bats than he does, with his stuff. Probably some over thinking, but if Correa has Machado type upside then he'd be perfectly fine with me. Honestly though, while I have zero feel for who may take him, I think I'd feel comfortable laying some cash down that he doesn't make it to us.
