  1. Although when batters face him they may feel like they are facing a Jamie Moyeresque fastball. Oops, well played sir.
  2. This thread confuses me. If a guy wants to try and live out his dream, he should. He has all the time in the world to go and coach or do whatever else he may feel like doing in a few years. Because something tells me we're not looking at a Jamie Moyeresque type career with Prior.
  3. MLBDraftInsider's latest mock has us passing on Zimmer and taking Fried. We're starting to get connected to him quite a bit by the guys who hear things. In the supplemental, he has us taking Barrett Barnes, a toolsy OFer from Texas Tech, who has really moved up the boards this season. Power and speed combo guy, with a long ways to go, but loads of potential. The other supplemental pick is Jesse Winker, a lefty HS OFer with tons of power, advanced approach and a Florida commit.
  4. I want to give Bosio some credit with Shark, but it really seems he kind of took everything upon himself before spring training even started. I guess there IS something to be said though about putting him in the rotation though, knowing your pen was going to be considerably weaker. Probably shouldn't be a big deal, nut plenty of other coaching staffs would have messed that up.
  5. Kasten said yesterday that the Dodgers will be involved with every big name free agent. Not that we didn't see this coming.
  6. I would rather have Sanchez than Greinke, once I consider the social anxiety issue.
  7. I like him much more than Dusty, Lou, or Quade, that's for sure.
  8. Sanchez is going to get a VERY nice contract over the off-season.
  9. Would Shark have been given a chance to start this year, if we still had Hendry around?
  10. Just some growing pains with Dolis. He'll start racking up some K's soon.
  11. I really like what I'm hearing on Correa too. If Giolito comes back strong, we've got a pleasant problem to choose between some of these guys.
  12. Hell, I'll just recap it. Olsen was at a Jay Fiedler football camp as a freshman in high school and Seau was there. He challenged anyone to a one on one. Olsen's buddies nominated him because he was a big kid. Olsen was scared to death. Seau gave him a quick wink and let Olsen pancake him. Then he sold it too. Whole camp cheered on Olsen, who was still just a chubby kid who didn't even know if he liked football at that point.
  13. On the other hand, Eric Olsen of the Saints has a great Seau story that's up on PFT. I'm on my cell, so I can't post it from here, but someone should. It's just a cool story.
  14. If he is, are you going to believe?
  15. I know plenty of "big sports guys" who still think RBI and Win totals for pitchers are the end all, be all.
  16. I'm sure LaHair would be a butcher in the OF, but at least he has played close to 200 games in the OF in the minors, including 50 in 2010 and 12 last year.
  17. What I heard was suicide. Definitely possible. Horrible news though. Damnit.
  18. It looks like Junior Seau may have been shot and killed inside his home earlier today.
  19. Ethier's never going to hit the market. He'll be locked up within a month or so, is my guess. We could keep the same staff, minus Dempster and add Sanchez, McCarthy, Peavy, or Marcum and be just as good, maybe even a tad better than what we've currently got. The bullpen will have to be sorted out, but we've probably got 3-5 answers in house for spots, so we'd probably be looking at adding 2-3 spots at the max. And with what we've got to project for next year out of our lineup, it's likely that 3B and/or LF would seem to be the biggest needs. We could add Youkilis and Nick Swisher, without having to hand out a gigantic contract, and be contenders. Hell, we could probably add one of those pitchers, and those 2 hitters and be considered the favorites within the division. And we've definitely got the ability to go and sign those types of guys.
  20. By the way, Giolito is beginning to throw again and Correa is really looking good. I think he's going to push himself inside the top 5. I'm starting to feel very confident that one of Appel, Gausman, or Zimmer is there for us at 6 and we'll be choosing between them and Giolito.
  21. I could at least see us taking Fried over one of the college arms as a possibility, but not a guy who was injured and missed half the season, with less talent than Fried to begin with.
  22. Well crap, I was the one who brought up the original scenario, so I'm responsible for this mess. But, as N&G and Tim have mentioned, there's certainly more than one way we can be competitive next year. Truly, out of everything I mentioned, the only thing that's close to a definite is Castro needs to keep stepping forward. Everything else can be switched out with other possibilities. Maybe Rizzo does NOT step up. But, maybe Lahair is for real. Maybe Shark doesn't step forward, but Volstad or Wood does. Maybe we miss on Hamels, but get Annibal and he's lights out for us. There's plenty of scenarios here that could work, enough in my mind that I think Theo will spend some money this upcoming offseason, because he'll think we've got a legit chance as well.
  23. If we keep Garza, Shark progresses enough to where he's a legit midrotation guy, we could add a Hamels and maybe keep Dempster on a very team friendly deal, we'd have an excellent rotation. We'd have to see Brett and Rizzo be solid major leaguers, Castro taking another step towards superstardom and add another solid bat somehow, but that team could contend next season most likely.
  24. Like I said, while I WAS all about trading Garza, I am NOT anymore. However, some possible reasons to consider dealing him and then trading for another pitcher would be years of control and salary. It'd be a projection, in a way, because you'd have to find a guy who maybe hasn't put it all together yet and could be had for slightly less than Garza could bring back or even be part of this deal.. Maybe Garza wants a NTC that we don't want to give out? I'm spitballing obviously. And I'm also going off a scenario where Garza is pitching at midseason like he's been so far. I think he would bring back a true ransom. Perfect world is we resign him to a 6/90ish deal. But, if we landed a Henderson Alvarez, Justin Nicolino, Jake Marisnick, Aaron Sanchez type deal for him, it'd be hard as hell to pass up. And yes, that's an unrealistic package for him, but it's basically something like that, that would make me trade him.
