Bob has gotten more cranky over the years. I got the Dbacks broadcast during the Cubs series and he was very curmudgeonly. He also comped Kris Bryant to Rob Deer, which I thought was kinda strange. I remember Deer as a big oaf strikeout or HR guy and not much else.
Hollandsworth was saying something today on Lead Off Man about how the Cubs have seen like 240 more pitches than the second place team in MLB, so like Cubs hitters have basically seen almost two more games worth of pitches than the next highest team.
My next door neighbor played with Schwarbs at IU and is waiting on a text back right now. I've been trying to get the IU Alumni Association's Philly chapter to do a Schwarbs Meet and Greet when the Cubs come to town. Assuming he's not back by early June, when the Cubs visit.
What's beautiful about the Cubs offense is that they allow pitchers to chose their own method of execution. Pitch to us and your death by dongs will be swift and instantaneous. Avoid us and we will gouge you with a thousand paper cuts.
But if they perform to their abilities -- Grimm, Ramirez, Strop all throwing nasty stuff and Rondon performing to his baseball card numbers -- wouldn't that potentially be an elite, or at least top 10 BP?
they are trying to working this stud into the cf mix: http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/files/2014/03/chi-javier-baez-agent-switch-20140223-624x443.jpeg Perhaps their seeming lack of urgency has to do with their internal evaluations on Javy's ability to play CF but just seems strange for a team with WS aspirations to go into the season relying on an experiment in one of the most important defensive positions.
Apologies if this was posted before and I missed it, but... don't the Cubs have like 0 centerfielders on the roster? 1 if you count JH? Isn't that an issue?
totally off the reservation, but once upon a time the PR winter league was amazing. an old guy, former boss of mine who is dead now, told me once that in the 50s Santurce's starting outfield one year was Snider, Mays and Aaron.

Yeah. They're good friends. Jake got into twitter arguments with cubs fans last year when he was rooting for st louis in the playoffs. I think Jake was a groomsman in Carpenter's wedding or vice versa
