  1. Worse part about road games at St. Louis is having to listen to Mike Shannon on the Cardinals' SiriusXM feed. What a hick.
  2. As much as I like Beef, he is definitely the odd man out here. Let's just hope he keeps hitting to raise his value. Don't you think that would degrade the offense? My concern is it would.
  3. I may be in the minority but I kinda hope the Cubs keep him. He looks like our best hitting catcher. Ross seems like a black hole offensively.
  4. apart from Edwards, or even perhaps Jackson? are there any other power arms in the system that suit well to late-inning high-leverage situations? Not sure Jackson does, hence I put a question mark there.
  5. Your explanation actually made a lot of sense :)
  6. I didn't understand what he was saying, just thought it was hilarious. He is eccentric, and in a good way.
  7. Is there a thread where we can capture all of the nutjob stuff Maddon says? This guy is like the competent Dusty Baker. Did anyone catch this? "As Maddon was walking into the tiny interview room in the bowels of Wrigley Field after Monday night's dramatic 7-6, 10-inning victory over the Reds, he was talking as much to himself as to anyone else. "Entering the Vatican, the catacombs, the Da Vinci Code is being broken,'' Maddon said as he headed toward the microphone.
  8. Can't figure out what dema might be. Maybe drama? I think he is saying "demas" which is others, so likely he means despite mean spirited comments from others, or something along those lines.
  9. his first three at bats really sucked yesterday, didn't they? in the first one in particular it seemed like he was out-thinking himself.
  10. Did anyone hear Grant Paulson on Minors & Majors this AM on MLB radio? I just caught the end and he was effusively praising Baez, going on about his incredible year and went on to say Cubs fans should be giddy about the system. I was curious if anyone heard the first part about Baez to see what I missed.
  11. I guess he's an REM fan.
  12. This reminds me of the Fred McGriff drama from about 10 years ago. Remember that? another thought on this, is Delgado really all that good, or could he turn out to be another Farnsworth, i.e. million-dollar arm, 10-cent head?
  13. Winner. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Cowboy
  14. Ratso
  15. Leon Durham? Didn't he hit 5th and Moreland 6th on that team?
  16. I am watching the Mets-Cards right now and David Wright just drew his 14th walk in the first 9 games. That seems like an astounding pace, something like 252 walks. Bonds' best year was 232, which I believe is the record.
  17. Nah, he deserves his own special term. He's definitely a bafoon.
  18. Did anyone hear the end of the Sox game the other night? Hawk Harrelson said something like: "You couldn't pull a greased T out of my behind with a pliers." Could this guy be any more of a bafoon?
  19. Sad: I remember back in the '70s one summer I was on the couch all summer with a broken leg and WGN televised like 158 games.
  20. I think we need one of those "Everybody Clap Your Hands!" recordings. I hope Ricketts sees the light.
  21. Randy Johnson. My vote would be Steve Carlton. Who was it said hitting his slider was like "trying to eat soup with a fork"?
  22. I'd like for the Cubs to have some BP arms that can counter all those potent LH Phillie hitters should we get to the post season and face them. That team's offense just keeps coming and coming. Who do we have that fits that bill?
  23. Dunn looks like Will Farrell in that pic. LOL.
  24. Just speculating here, but NY media are in full meltdown mode now over the Mets, and a lot of speculation has them looking to move either Reyes or Wright. Assuming they move Reyes, would they want Ronny Cedeno? And if so, is there anyone they have that we'd covet? I'm not sold on Reyes, as I see him play a lot and I think he is kind of a meathead. A talented one, yes, but a meathead. But who might interest the Cubs if we offer them Ronny?
