    Makes no sense to me either. I look at it like this (seems like a no-brainer..): How many times out of 10 will he successfully get the sac bunt down and GIVE UP AN OUT vs how many times will he get a hit? Open and shut case - stupid call. ps - I'm sure there's some metrics at Baseball Prospectus on this, but I'm too lazy to look it up. In same situation the next inning Soriano hit away to the same DP result. Certainly not saying I wanted Soriano to bunt...just saying. I don't mind the sac bunt as much as some here but I certainly do question asking Soto to do it. Soriano did GIDP, but he wasn't trying to make an out on purpose like Geo was told to do. I agree with you in that you never know what would happen with every circumstance every time- Geo swinging away coulda been a GIDP too, but it's the giving up of the out on purpose(especially with a guy that can hit it out of the park) that riles some of us. Not only that, one of the faster runners in the league was on first, and he could have scored on a double.

    I've lived through probably 12 hurricanes and if Houston is rather far inland, the problem will be rain rather than wind. As soon as hurricanes come ashore the wind starts to die and the storm goes down a category or so. What happens is they pick up so much velocity in open waters because they are unobstructed but when they hit vegetation and structures, it takes away some of their energy. Houston might get a couple feet of rain though.

    I had a dream last night that Harden got hurt on his first at bat at Wrigley. He started limping around a la Felix Hernandez at Shea a couple of weeks ago. The Wrigley crowd started groaning but then Harden waved off the trainers, got back in the box Willis Reed style and the crowd went nuts.

    I was watching the Mets-Cards game last night and Larussa let his relief pitcher hit in the 6th trailing by 3 runs. Made no sense, especially since he had a fresh bullpen and 13 pitchers. Surely he's not saving his bullpen for the Cubs series is he? Would it make sense to do that so many days in advance?

    Here in Puerto Rico we have stadiums and stuff too. There's a Monday night TV show, or there used to be, where they played the cockfight of the week, with play by play and everything. There;s even a government official who holds the title Commissioner of Cockfight Affairs. Seriously.

    1984 was by far the worst. The Cubs had a great team, it was stacked on offense, 6 guys with 80 or more RBI, a nice blend of speed, power, and OBP. A deep pitching staff and a lock down closer. They lost to a flakey Padres team that laid down like the dogs they were once they got to the WS against Detroit. That was the biggest pain I've felt as a Cubs fan. Although 2003 hurt, but that team had a very shaky bullpen, so I don't know that they really underachieved when it was all said and done. In '89 and '98 they just lost to far superior teams. This year, was an inconsistent team with 85 wins and a lot of holes.

    Nah. 1984 game 5. I was a wreck. I was in college, watching in my apartment, and when the grounder went through Durham's legs, I walk over tothe kitchen, picked up a chair and repeatedly smashed it against the wall until it was a pile of toothpicks. Never said a word, and nor did my roomate. I remember that Sunday afternoon, how in the hell did San Diego, a team with four less wins than the Cubs get home field advantage? - that 2-3 format was a load of crap. I will forever loathe Gary F. Templeton and his soap-dropping hat waving crap and his comments when they were down 2 that San Diego was in it because "They are still the Cubs."

    Did anyone read that inerview with the astrologer in one of the Chicago papers the other day? They were asking him or her to predict some of the things that would happen in the first game, and one of them said something like this: "Carlos Zambrano will have a disagreement with Piniella, but Carlos will be right." And then the quote from Carlos in the paper about how he tried to talk Lou out of taking him out but to no avail. Kind of spooky if you are inclined to believe in that sort of stuff.

    Some of the comments are pretty funny: Mr. DeRosa, Anything you can do to convince Steve Trachsel that the NLDS is being played in Siberia would be greatly appreciated.

    Agreed to a certain extent but this one: 4. "We make it tough for you to watch your team play." ... is true and it is an outrage. I am sitting here tonight unable to watch the Pads-Rox playoff because TBS is blocked for Puerto Rico and no one can tell me why. I called my cable provider and they told me they had no idea, but gave me an email address for TBS. MLB better cut this crap out and soon or its going to turn off a whole legion of potential new fans. It seems like greed getting in the way of common sense.

    I was there for that game. It was part of the double header the Cubs had with the Marlins because of the hurricane. I had awesome seats 2 rows from the field right next to the Cubs dugout. The Cubs split the DH, but it was a great day. Nomar signed my girlfriends' hat (she's obsessed with Nomar) and Alou tossed me a ball. Kensing got rocked that day. Maybe he should worry more about pitching better and less about the fans. I'm confused. I was at the hurricane-induced Cubs-Marlins doubleheader in Miami as well -- in fact i lived about a half-hour up the Florida turnpike from Dolphin stadium in those days. That was the day where David F. Weathers beat us in the second game as a starter, and then the Cubs went on their fateful trip to NY and a date with Victor Diaz. But in the quote he refers to Wrigley.

"I cannot stand Cubs fans,'' the Florida reliever said after the Marlins dealt another blow to Chicago's division hopes with a 7-4 victory Wednesday night. "They were passionate at my first start at Wrigley,'' Kensing said, referring to his 2004 debut when he was jeered in a loss. "It's the goat, right?''

    Dude reminds me so much of Ron Artest it isn't even funny. Both are very intelligent, well-spoken guys, thought of very highly by teammates, described as kind, caring, generous "Off the field/court." But they just some how attract trouble.

    Sorry if I come off like a Negative Nancy, Debbie Downer, etc. But I am really concerned at this point. The Brewers are already ahead of the Cubs in the loss column and close the season at home, where they have been one of the best teams in baseball. The Cubs close against Cincy, who always plays them tough. I really see the Brewers as being the favorites right now.

    No, that was a Mothers day Game in 2004 I believe. Clement started for the Cubs, and it was like 11-10 Cubs after 4 when the game was stopped and cancelled due to rain. Wasn't that in 2003, and when the game was made up it was part of that epic 5-game series in late August that started the push to the division crown?

    Thanks, I think the affiliate is somewhere like Erie PA, which would probably be in the Cleveland market. But I would certainly prefer Indians games to Jerry Rice in a tutu.
