  1. Accurate. I'm 4 hours from KC, Chicago is 4.5, Indy is less than 3.5.
  2. I would just be copying others if I made my own top 20 but keeping Ferris out of the top 10 after that debut performance seems nigh criminal to me.
  3. Gives them a guy who can back up CF and he gets the PAs Wisdom has been getting since he's in such a funk right now?
  4. Yep, that's a spot where you need contact and that's the only reason madrigal is on the damn roster. Massive fail by Ross there.
  5. Yeah, that was a huge performance if only because it kept the rest of the pen from having to pitch today.
  6. Sure, but this is an upgrade from a hot steaming pile of horsefeathers to likely average to above average production.
  7. It's absolutely hilarious down here. The fans are in full revolt, they lost their minds yesterday with the Stifel announcement, they all want Marmol fired and DeWitt to sell the team for being a cheap ass who won't pay for pitching. I'm reveling in it.
  8. If you're not going to bring up Mervis put him in CF and Bellinger at 1B.
  9. I think that last bit there is my biggest problem with this whole situation. Dude is 25, has destroyed the baseball for the last 7 months in the minors and at some point you have to find out if he's an asset, has things to work on that get exposed when he comes up, or if he's not the solution long term. We know Hosmer and Mancini aren't.
  10. After him MFing Willy yesterday I'd say probably not.
  11. What a horrible decision by the A's 1B. Thanks for the free out.
  12. I think roster construction (i.e. Hosmer/Mervis both being LHH) is a as big a factor as any for me. Hosmer doesn't provide a level of defense that appears to be game changing a la Rizzo from the eye test thus far and even if it's a modest increase in offensive output, I have to think that just getting away from all the damn ground balls he hits will have a net positive effect. Long story short, Hosmer is a minimal sunk cost, Mervis is probably better already and hits less rally killing GBs, so bring him up and let's see what we have.
  13. I think there's some reasonable expectation that Smyly will implode or get hurt at some point and there's nota lot to lean on right now as backup until Hendricks proves he's healthy/fixed and that's a dubious proposition.
  14. Does Cody Heuer and a fixed Hendricks satisfy those "adds" for you or are you talking about additions beyond that?
  15. This seems like a win/win. I'm a fan.
  16. It's not going to be through there until like 8 EDT and the Reds play at 3 EDT tomorrow in Philly. I'd be surprised if they try to play at all today.
  17. Having actual ML players at all the positions on the field probably has something to do with that. Even Hosmer and Wisdom both had important defensive plays in spite of lackluster days at the plate.
  18. I'm prepared for this to be the end result of the game tomorrow. Prove me wrong jackasses!
  19. Passan estimated 5 and 10 for those years and 20 for the FA year buyout, which seems reasonable to me if not a tad light on the arb years.
  20. I can't see Social and I've been here since 2004 so an add to the old timey group would be appreciated.
  21. 27 brackets in 2 groups I'm in and 1 person has 1 team in the Final Four.
  22. That's a dishonest characterization of Mervis. He likely would have been their 6th pick in the shortened Covid draft so he's not some unheard of dude who came out of nowhere. He did get a lot of helium last year because of how he progressed through 3 levels with progressively better numbers. He's not going to be Goldschmidt but he's not LaHair either. I 100% admit I know absolutely nothing about him that I didn't learn in the last five minutes, so maybe he's awesome, but "he would have been a 6th round pick" isn't a ringing endorsement. He was a not super athletic 2 way player at Duke who was destined for 1B, so regardless of skill level (unless he had like 70 hit tool or power) he wasn't going to be a guy who got hype out of college. He was the 1st call the Cubs made after the draft was over. I'm not trying to sell him here, but there's reason to not just poo poo his prospect status. I can't disagree with the rest of your assessment though. The Rickettses are trash top to bottom.

  24. This is probably about right. It seems like some coaches recruit well enough to have an all superstar team that can succeed without much coaching and perhaps some other coaches are just tactically better and can coach an average team to more wins. It's not like they have much time to prepare for the games though. I think there's also certain things that play up in the tournament too. MSU for example is almost always a great rebounding team and I can't count how many games I've watched where just basic blocking out wins the game because one team is doing it well and the other isn't. I definitely buy into the clutch factor at the end of games too. Some teams are just better prepared for the chaos in the last 2 minutes and protect the ball and hit free throws. The "do what you're good at" factor is important too. A ton of games I've watched turn because teams stopped doing what they were succeeding at or because a guy or two decided it was their turn to shoot (see: Illinois and Indiana chucking 3s when they weren't going in instead of continuing to go to the rim).
  25. Yeah I was surprised to see him as a lock with Madrigal a begrudgingly added final IF. I would have guessed the other way around. I try not to pay much attention to Spring Training for whatever reason so maybe McKinstry is raking Fake edit: Oh, no he's 2-29 with a .275 OPS after having a somewhat extended look last year with a .633 OPS. Versatility is nice but the dude has shown nothing with the bat. If he's a lock we're gonna have some issues with depth this year. I think the main thing here is Madrigal has options and McKinstry doesn't so you might as well see what you have for a month before you cut bait and after what we've seen in the majors from Madrigal since he got to the Cubs, I don't really have an issue with going that route.
