  1. My biggest issue with the whole Hendricks situation is that it just feels eerily similar to the way things were going before he was shut down in 2022. Velocity was okay, but he was just missing his spots and not fine enough with the control to be effective. Throw on top of it the fact that Taillon was out to start the year and Steele went down right away and I can see a guy like Kyle sucking it up and trying to grit through some kind of arm injury for the good of the team.
  2. horsefeathers Stan Kroenke, even more than most of the other billionaires that own teams.
  3. They can bring up any of them plus Wesneski as the 27th man tomorrow, but that doesn't get Brewer back to Iowa.
  4. He has? I missed that bit of news if it's been declared specifically by the Cubs.
  5. Eh, it just delays the pen use problem by a day or two because they'll play a DH at some point this weekend I'd guess.
  6. A buddy who is a big KU fan just texted me and said it was all but a done deal to Illinois until yesterday when his gf committed to Kansas.
  7. No, 99th percentile for chase rate means only 1% chase less than the guy being discussed, so that would be excellent. The in zone contact is always going to be an issue for Caissie, more than likely, because of the power, but because he doesn't chase, it's less of a problem. When you chase and miss in zone (Javy Baez comes to mind without any statistical back up here), that's what's really problematic.
  8. I love the workday games. I throw it on in a browser window with headphones on and actually usually get a lot accomplished.
  9. Well that was a horseshit call for strike 3 on Busch.
  10. With all the SLG % numbers that are above .500 against lefties for the DBacks, I don't feel confident in this.
  11. He's ridiculously fast. I can't imagine there's more than 1 or 2 guys in all of MLB that are faster, if any.
  12. Looks like he's tougher on lefties than righties for his career, which tells me he probably features a changeup. Edit: Well that was way off. Apparently he throws a 94 mph cutter and an average curve and has added a slider based on this article posted in the offseason.
  13. How about Little not being able to throw a strike? I'll agree the second one was a lazy effort and said so at the time and there's no excuse for the pitch he just didn't catch later either. Rough night for him defensively, but as has been said, he's far from the only one with some culpability for that loss last night.
  14. This is what needs to be the focus. This pen has pitched waaaaaaay too many innings this early in the season. Avg. innings per start from the 5 guys who are currently starting: 4.25, 5.56, 5.03 (Shota obviously got hosed in the rain delay game), 4.07, 5.33. That's not going to work long term regardless of the quality of pen arms.
  15. They're intentionally limiting his use early in the season so he's available at the end of the year assuming they make the playoffs.
  16. https://x.com/JeffPassan/status/1780257327527964787 Jack Leiter getting called up and starting Thursday against the Tigers.
  17. Beat me to it. 🤣
  18. I missed Madrigal coming into the game on defense in the 8th but even that doesn't make much sense to me. I realize his spot in the order wasn't coming up soon but it was a tie game that you know you need to score more runs to win and the bottom of the order was due up in the 9th. I hate that move, especially when you have the hindsight of the GIDP in the 10th that killed that rally.
  19. This tells me Boras overplayed his hand and Montgomery would have taken less AAV to get a long term deal. Probably going to be even tougher for him next year with the loss of pick tied to signing him if he has a decent year.
  20. Do we end up in a situation where Manfred/the other owners force him to sell using the "best interests of baseball" power the commissioner is granted? At this point it seems like about the only thing that could really get the A's out of the mess Fisher has caused.
  21. If I told you Monday morning that the 6th and 7th starters for the Cubs would give them 9 2/3 shutout innings, especially after what we've seen the Cubs do to the Dodgers and Padres starters the last 5 games, would that alter your perception a bit? Injuries happen and they're honestly pretty well prepared for it, but when you lose 2 of your likely top 3 pitchers in the first month of the season and only get 4 inning out of a guy you'd have gotten at least 6, maybe 7 IP out of, there's just not much else you can do. If Cuas continues to struggle and they don't come up with a solution for that, then yeah, there's a legit complaint, but I just don't think you can gripe much right now about the depth when they're 7-4 and have largely gotten decent pitching from backups to the backups.
  22. That game went about like I expected it to and I said beforehand that I expected a UConn win by 15 or so. Clingan is a big enough body for Edey to deal with that you could tell he was on fumes the last 5-7 minutes of the first half and UConn was just too athletic everywhere else for the supporting cast to make enough shots. I will say that was an extremely poorly officiated game although I don't think either team really benefitted much. Hell of a season for Purdue after getting knocked out early last year.
  23. Did they intentionally mash together all the worst elements of the Marlins and DBacks uniforms?
