  1. If he lasts as long as the predictions I saw indicate, Max Duggan seems like a solid bet. Decent size and speed, winning program, and a smart player.
  2. Rolen is a top 10 offensive third baseman and top 5 defensive third baseman. Are there eligible guys who deserve to be in before him? Sure. But 40? Maybe a half dozen if you exclude steroid scandal guys. I count 15 guys with 60+ WAR that aren't in who aren't eligible yet, either banned, steroids guys, from the 1800s. Lou Whitaker, Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Luis Tiant are probably the biggest misses on that list.
  3. It's wild to me how fickle the voters are. Edmonds has 5 less fWAR and didn't make it past the first year of voting. Absolutely ridiculous.
  4. I got rid of my charcoal once I got my pellet smoker because I really didn't want to dedicate backyard/deck space to all 3. Covers the flavor angle, but I can't do the charcoal sear. If I have a large yard one day I'll have all the cooking toys Charcoal Pellet smoker Propane grill Flat top grill Camp stove Missing any? Edit- oh I also have my portable pizza oven (pellet) but you could add a built in wood pizza oven to the wish list too I just got a 22" Blackstone and my spring project is going to be building a table I can drop the kamado into and have the Blackstone on the other end to have a sweet setup. What do you want the camp stove for? I can get my kamado up to around 550F and it does a great job on pizzas.
  5. Propane is stupid and useless and imparts no flavor. I have a Weber kettle and a kamado and it takes me maybe 5 minutes longer to be cooking on the Weber than it does on a gas grill.
  6. I’m 5’10”. I remember walking around Illinois’ campus when I was a student in the 90s and being amused that I was taller than a couple Illini basketball players who’d been listed at 6’2”. You ran into Kiwane too eh?
  7. This is a lot of the reason why I don't get some in the media insistence that Young is a better prospect than Fields. Really? Because physically Fields >>> Young and it's not even that close, so, I guess the base of their argument is Young is better at the mental portion of the game. Which is questionable given Young has never played a down in the NFL. It's hard to generate a lot of hype for the upcoming draft if the no. 1 overall pick isn't better than a guy who fell outside the top 10 a couple years ago. So you're saying a team would have been dumb to trade the #1 pick for Brady at the peak of his playing days because he was a 6th rounder?
  8. The new/old offense Illinois has installed seems to be agreeing with them. 4 straight wins and a couple blowouts.
  9. The only real problem I have with this is the fact that the rest of the roster is in shambles and even if you did feel moderately better about one of the QBs than you do Fields, you're in the same position all over again. You're not going to get the value by trading Fields that you will from trading the #1 pick and the roster desperately needs as many talented bodies in whatever position you can find them as they can get.
  10. Does that mean he's joining the team and playing this year?
  11. Based on the things posted here and what I've seen elsewhere, no changes are good and we'll likely hear something tomorrow about him being taken off intubation and sedatives since that seems to be the normal protocol for a cardiac event like this.
  12. If Hosmer is basically free there’s still money for Mancini then there’s also Wisdom as RHH power options. Assuming Correa goes through with the Mets Canha or Escobar could be options too. I still see 3B as a major hole with basically only Wisdom and whatever LHH we keep between Mckinstry and the guy we got from the Rays (and they’re really more bench utility guys vs guys you want playing there every day). Brian Anderson is still a FA too and I guess could be worth a flyer. Did Longoria sign somewhere?
  13. I keep going back and forth on whether to draft Andersen and increase the odds of having that one defensive player to build around. He could be that K Mack or Donald type player on defense who can take over which is hard to find defensively. I feel like have a bunch of good pass rushers is a reasonable solution and this team has so many holes that adding an extra first/early second round pick this year and next would be a much greater benefit than one great DE, even if that is a nice thing to have. If there weren't so many holes and a shortage of FAs to sign at some of the key spots I might feel differently, but it really is starting to feel like a lot of the impact is going to have to come through the draft.
  14. This seems like a weird move and even weirder timing unless something else is about to break we haven't heard about yet.
  15. The Dodgers will always be hateable because their fans are such asshats.
  16. Sub zero temps and a foot of snow? Just genius scheduling to give the Bears a bunch of December home games NFL.
  17. Same thing killed one of my great uncles and my grandma had the same issue but it was corrected and she lived until she was 93. A shame it went undetected for him.
  18. Who cares what they pay him, it's not my money. And if this ownership group has any hope of placating the fan base and keeping them spending money on the team they damn well better keep spending money. As has been said, even if he puts up 4 WAR for the next 4 years, that's a nearly 4 WAR upgrade over the garbage they've had at 2B recently and that's nothing to sneeze at.
  19. I don't know a ton about the technicalities of the game any more, but by the eye test he's been far an away the MVP of the US team in my opinion. Just the sheer amount of activity is impressive and he's got such quick feet.
  20. What does this mean?
  21. I may be in the minority but I hated the Abreu idea. Too much money on a position that can be "fixed" much more cheaply when there are so many other obvious needs on the team and there's clearly a hard cap on what will be spent.
  22. I was impressed with Virginia though I have to say Illinois pretty much lost the game with poor shot selection and sloppiness (and free throws). A lot of hero ball and individual play in the last couple minutes really cost them. You could tell they were a team that hadn't played together much in contrast to the very disciplined UVA squad. I think that's all correctable stuff and something I feel like Underwood has done well in previous years, plus as the season rolls on they'll just naturally figure out who the go to guys are in those close and late situations. Overall very encouraging weekend for me from an Illini fan perspective.
  23. You should peruse this thread and see how the ability to hit velocity thing was kind of debunked after Keith Law said it. Some pretty impressive hitting on high heat, even from lefties.
  24. All of 'em except Marquez and Wick.
