  1. you dont happen to know what it was wan this thread started do you Vance. Wondering I would assume that Carp has caught up some since then but just wondering.
  2. You have to start Jones against Green Bay their defense is just horrible and I would go with Green for the other one. As bad as Miami is they do still have a pretty good rush defense.
  3. I think Thome could be a met, they need a first baseman and the Phillies could use a CF why not trade Thome to the Mets for Cameron and a prospect and pick up some contract. The Mets have Diaz so they dont really need Cameron. This trade makes sense for both teams. Plus Cameron has a somewhat big contract so they wouldnt have to pick up as much money as for just prospects.
  4. What if trading Lee got you another All-Star, possibly one younger and more likely to stay at their current numbers than Lee? There's a lot of good hitting 1B, I'd explore the possiblity. The only way I would consider trading Lee is if maybe it is to Texas for Mench and Gonzalez who is gonna be a stud hitting 1B if you can give up Lee and a midlevel prospect for Mench, Gonzalez and another prospect maybe. Then they could have Texiera be the DH. But i dont see Texas doing this deal becasue they need pitching.
  5. Let's face it, it's because baseball is boring. All of us here are diehards and love the game, but most young people aren't entertained by standing in the field for 15 minutes without getting a ball hit in your direction. In baseball and football, everyone on the field/court is doing something every single play. I think some of it is also the amount of time you spend in the minors before you get up. Most rookies in baseball dont make it until around age 23 unless they are really special players. While in football and basketball you can get to the pros by age 19 to 21 ir 22.
  6. I dont think it is just starting pitchers, there is a lack of US black born players in all of baseball. Im not sure why this is but there seems to be a lot less today.
  7. A poor man's Kevin Roberson? In his defense he started off like 1-for 20. The was sent down to A. Once he got called back up he hit around .280. I still dont think he will ever make it , but those numbers are a little skewed from his first stint where he was getting used to hitting and playing everyday for the first time in a long time.
  8. Pujols watchs his home runs no more the Ramirez does or Lee does with that little hop of his. Everybody watches their home runs it has become a part of the game. The point about Wood, I dont remember a game where would hit a Cards player with a curveball and the Cards retaliated. I may be wrong and you may be right I just dont remember. Plus there might have been stuff going on from games before to. Plus your sayin that Larussa does it more then any other coaches, but the games you pointed out half of them are even questionable on wither it was on purpose or not. Alot of the other ones he retaliated after his team had already been hit on purpose so he is not out of line for sticking up for his players. Also alot of the times the coaches dont even tell the pitchers to do it most veteran pitchers know when to do it and they do it on their own.
  9. This whole thread is dumb, beaning someone for realiation is part of baseball and there is nothing bush league about it. Its players policing the game the way it should be. In any of those instances were the players hit in the head. None that I can remember so they are doing it the right way. Every team does it so to point out one teams just shows that you have a bias towards the Cards which i have no problem with this is a cubs boards so I expect alot of people to. But to say that the Cards and Larussa are bush league for retaliating is ridiculous its part of the game and should be done. Plus how do you know all of those were on purpose. The marlins one Gonzalez was hit with an slow breaking ball in the lower back I believe. That is hardly a message pitch.
  10. I think Duncans suspension comes from tha fact that he charged the pirates dugout after the brawl had slowed down some.
  11. Unless he replaced a player put on the DL, right? Yeah i think you are right but im not sure. But if i recall that is what the Angels did with KRod a few years ago.
  12. What is funny is they released him today, so even if a team in the playoff race wanted to take a chance on him he couldnt be on the playoff roster.
  13. K-town I am with ya for Carpenter for Cy Young but I think that you are reaching quite a bit on this one.
  14. You know what else the cards pitching staff has all of them are in the top 20 in groundball to flyball ratio. AT least they were a few weeks ago. This means they all keep the ball down dont let up many home runs and get lots of double plays. So lets not all say it is luck they are all getting a lot of groundballs and keeping the ball in the park.
  15. They already start one at short.
  16. I dont think it is biased or goes to the guys with the most wins, i think it goes to a guy with the best combination of wins and ERA which is what Clemens had last year and which is what Carp has this year. Clemens didnt have the ERA of RJ last year or the wins of Oswalt but he has the best combination out of the 3 of them. That is what Carp has this year he has a better combination of wins and ERA then Clemens does. Im not saying that is necessarily fair but it is the way it has been done in the past. Thats all im saying is the way it has been voted on in the past would seem as if it should go to Carpenter. IS that the right way to do it maybe not but thats the way it has been done so i feel that is the way it should be done this year again. Like i said Clemens has been a better then Carpenter in most of the main staistical categories like ERA and whip and those. But that dosent always mean you should get the Cy Young or at least it hasnt in the past.
  17. I agree with the stuff you said vance, but I think that Cardinals fans feel that previous votes have leaned towards the guys with the more wins even if the ERA is higher. So they feel that if your going on the way previous votes Carpenter should be the winner. ITs not taking anything away from Clemens its just they have seen guys with higher era's but more wint totals win in the past and they think it should be that way again. If Clemens wins it i wont be mad its hard to argue against a guy with a 1.50 ERA. I would just like to see Carp win it because he is just as deserving as Clemens.
  18. peavy barely qualified for the ERA title, which explains why he wasn't in the voting. an ERA as low as clemens' in this era is unheard of since maddux and certainly makes him deserving of the cy young, considering his peripherals. Im not saying that Clemens isnt deserving, im just saying that if you look at previous votes they tend to go with guys who have more wins even if the ERA is a little higher. Is that right? its up to them im just saying that based on what previous votes have shown Carpenter is probably the favorite as of now based on his win total.
  19. I used to like Buherle but he has put himself up there with Wells and Schilling. Just shut your mouths and go play ball.
  20. hey k-town who deserved the nl cy young last year? randy johnson or shawn estes? ....cause randy only had one more win, you know. thanks bud! That comparison isnt fair because its not just about wins in that case becasue all of Estes numbers were nowhere near Johnsons. In this case Carpenters numbers are close or better then Clemens so that argument between RJ and Estes doesnt make sense. I think it is still a toss up if Carpenter ends up with 22 or 23 wins and Clemens only has 13 or 14 and the ERA's stay the same I think Carp will win based on previous voting results. If Clemens gets within 3 or 4 wins I think he will have a good shot at the award. carpenter's ERA isn't even close to clemens' - that is one big stat the cy young voting is based on. the comparison i made IS fair, because he basically throws statistics out the window a la john kruk, saying that more wins = better pitcher. Actually I would say that ERA is taken into account less then wins. Oswalt got 3rd last year based on his wins while Peavy didnt even crack the top 10 even though he lead the league in ERA. So wins is taken into account more then ERA. As long as the ERAs are still good.
  21. uh, the complaining earlier this year was based on the fact that you have a cakewalk in interleague while we play the white sox. morris' complaint was pointless, considering all the teams in the central play houston. all that was different was the timing. We had an easier schedule this year its not gonna be that way every year there was a year a few years ago where the Royals were much better then the white sox at the all-star break thats just the way it works out. The cubs werent the only teams that had to play tougher rivals. The marlins got to play the devil rays while the braves has to play Boston. Its part of the game some years the cubs will have an easier schedule, some years the cardinals will. um, i'm not restarting this argument. it's been beaten into the ground. it's dead. let it go. I am fine with letting it go the guy up there is the one who brought up people complaining about schedules. I was just pointing out that both sides did it.

  24. That is a pretty classless comment. Pfffft. Matt Morris has much less class than anyone. 2002: Sosa hits a 500-ft HR off him: "Sammy Sosa stole signs from our dugout" 2003: He complians that the Cards have to play Houston in Sept., while the Cubs didn't: "MLB is being unfair to us. They want the Cubs to win" You cheered because a Cardinal player was injured. That is pretty classless in my opinion. How Morris was brought into this is beyond me. I don't think highly of any person that cheers an injury of any player. Yeah i agree, I dislike Zambrano for when he threw at Edmonds. But that dosent mean I was happy when Prior ran into Giles or when he took the liner off of his arm.
  25. Also i dont think that cubs fans really want to bring up complaints about the schedule. The first half of this year all cards fans heard how how unfair the schedule was to the cubs. So complaining about schedules is something that is done by both sides.
