When you're hitting .206 in a month and your team is down by a run in the 9th, you need to take what the pitcher gives you. It was a slow pitch that missed the zone by about two inches and both the batter and the umpire had a clear look at it. Dowdy was just terribly inconsistent (and terrible) behind the plate for both teams today. I agree, I do think the he was inconsistent today. But this looked like a really good pitch that Hollandsworth was not expecting to get on a 3-2 count. That said you cant watch a pitch anywhere near as close to that wiht 2 strikes. Especially if you know the ump has been inconsistent all day.
Not trying to start an argument but that pitch looked very good, and way to close to watch. I do think the pitch to Glaus was a strike too, so you can argue that he was inconsistant. But no way should Hollandsworth be watching that pitch in the 9th inning with 2 strikes
Does anyone have any clue what prospects have been talked about? The rumors I heard with the mets were their top 2 pitching prospects and Mike Cameron. So it seems as if the Cubs might have to give up alot to get him.
Yeah but his ERA away from home this year is 3.12 and he has only given up one home run away from Coors. Plus they really didnt have anyone else to throw out there.

On cards talk someone is saying a radio station in houston is reporting that they got Huff for Lane and 2 prospects. Dont know if this is true but this would be a good pickup for them if it is.
You can't compare a free agent contract to an arbitration case, it's a completely different animal. I dont see how a guy who is 28 for 31 in save opportunities with and ERA of 1.73 is overpaid. A closer is one of the most important roles on a team and a guy who can come in and get the job done is worth that type of money in my opinion.
The marlins were asking for Julio, Bigbie, and Penn from the orioles. I think it would take at least Hill and Mitry and another prospect from the cubs to get burnett.
If they do trade Mora its gonna be for a pitcher who is capable of coming in now and pitching for them right away. They are still in the wild card race so I would doubt they want prospects.
I dont think this trade will happen either, but Mora isnt that young he is like 32 or 33 I think and if they get nevin they have another good 3rd baseman and they could trade mora for pitching. The reason I dont think it is going to work is I think that they could get a better pitcher then Marquis for Mora.
According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. louis Post Dispatch, he says he has a source who says that if Nevin approves the trade to Baltimore they would trade Mora to the card for Marquis and prospects. I highly doubt this trade will happen, I dont see why the O's would give up a guy who can play 3rd and OF and hit that well.
I think the Cardinals should still be able to hold off the astos and the cubs because there pitching is stong. But all these injuries might make the race somewhat close again.
I agree glad im going and dont have to hear Morgan and Miller. Plus with it being Bonds bday im sure they will find a way to bring him up at least once an inning. Since all they do is kiss his butt all the time.
This is a great game so far, Z must really just hate the Cardinals because he is flat out dealing tonight. Plus even though he has gone 8 innings and only let up 1 run this is Carps worst start out of his last 7.
