  1. Dontrelle now gives up 5 earned runs, looks like all the candidates are trying to give the Cy away.
  2. Mine is an outside perspective, but i think that paying Furcal what he is gonna get is a mistake. I assume he will get a contract around what Renteria got last year. With that money I would sign Nomar to an incentive based contract and save yourself like 5 million dollars that can be used on an outfielder or bullpen help.
  3. Im not real sure that these comments are due to the losing or due to the fact that both Guillen and Everett are loudmouths. It wouldnt be shocking if these comments had come out when they were winning. Guillen has no restraint when it comes to talking to the media about his players which can be a bad things alot of the time.
  4. He is coaching in Japan right now.
  5. Wasnt there a huge thread a while back talking about how the White Sox fans only care about what the cubs are doing. This seems like the roles have been reversed because this thread is almost as long as some of the game threads have been lately.
  6. I think Tino got a raw deal here. When he was signed, I figured you'd gotten a 20-25 hr and 75-80 rbi guy. And that's what he did when he was here. I think some fans thought since he was a former Yankee that meant he was the one missing link to the World Series and not good starting pitching like you had last year and this year. I'm not a booer, but fans do have the right to boo. I just don't know why one would boo Tino or Templeton (who only flipped off the fans behind the dugout and not the entire stadium) if they were brought back but wouldn't boo McGwire. I tend to agree with you, anyone who thought that Tino was gonna take the Cardinals to the world series was mistaken. I can see why fans would boo McGwire and i dont think they would be wrong if they did. I personally am no a person who boos, so I really dont see booing any of them but hey for each his own. IF they want to boo they can boo whoever they want.
  7. I understand what your saying and i respect your belief, I just dont believe it. I personally believe that a manager can do a number of things to help his team win. Now like I said it comes down to the players doing it. But my belief is that the manager can make a differnce to help the team. Its just a difference in opinions, who knows you may be right. I guess there is no way of knowing because its not one of those things that can be proven or not.
  8. Dont worry Dalgreen, I really didnt think you were classifying all Cards fans, I just think that some people in the thread have. Allthough in this case you guys might be right because the people complaining about this are idiots.
  9. dusty does things like play bad players and make them bat at the beginning of the lineup. this helps the cubs lose, because it costs them runs. since it costs them runs, it is reflected in stats like this. Yes but you could say that managers like Larussa get guys in late in the game in the right spots and wins them a number of those games. That is a manager helping his team win the game. You say i use the manger knows how to win as because i dont have any other arguments. Well whet is your facts that expected wins is a viable stat? I see it as nothing more then some stat nerd came up with but it has nothing to do with actual baseball. Its a formula taht says how many games a team should win based on run differential but dosent take into consideration a lot of other details that are part of the game of baseball. All a manager can do is put his team in the right situation. He really can't help the team, but he most certainly can hurt it. I agree that it comes down to the players performing, but a manger putting his team in the best situation most of the times defintley helps them win games.
  10. The whole " best fans in baseball" thing has been blown out of proportion. Its impossible to say who has the best fans in baseball. I have a number of friends who are cubs fans and are way better baseball fans then alot of Cardinals fans. Also where does it say a good fan cant boo someone. Templeton openly disrespected Cardinals fans and they have the right to boo him. I personally wouldnt boo Tino just because he had a few bad years here. If i felt he didnt try i would but I dont think its the case. So you can be good fans and still boo if you think it is necessary as long as you dont cross the line with the booing.
  11. Listen you are aruging wiht like 2 cards fans. Most the cardinals fans on here and on the Cardinals board agree with you and the cubs fans. Its not cheating it should have been an error but every hometeam gets them. Your classifying all cardinals fans when most dont believe there was anything wrong.

  13. Ok if certain managers dont know how to win games, then why does everyone on this board complain about Dusty. Apperntly according to your statement the manager cant win games so Dusty is fine right? Of course there are some managers that can win games and im saying I believe that I think that is the difference in those so called expected wins to the amount of actual wins the braves and the cardinals have.
  14. wow this argument has never been made before ill bet you were the first to think of it also i think the people who came up with it just pulled it out of their collective butt and didn't test it at all to see if there was any truth to it in fact it was probably some cub fan who secretly knew about the cardinals innate ability to occasionally get blown out but win close games and he wanted to make his fellow cub fans feel better I dont care if they tried it out or not it seems like a dumb stat to me. Sometimes stats do like and dont show stuff that is actually going on and this seems like one of those dumb stats that have no significent value. Did you ever think that the teams like the CArdinals and the Braves have better records then what they should because they have good managers who know how to win games. While a team like the cubs have a bad game manager that loses games. I dont see that taken into consideration anywhere in that formula.
  15. Expected wins is one of the dumbest stats I have ever heard of, how can you say how many games a team should win by runs scored and runs given up. A team could win a bunch of close games and lose a ton of blowouts and their expected wins would be nowhere near what their actual record is because of a few lopsided loses.
  16. Lets not attack all Cardinals fans just the dumb ones. I agree with all the cubs fans in this thread.
  17. I agree this thread is pretty dumb.
  18. I'm a Cards fan...and I agree 100% with you. If the exact play happened to Pujols in StL, it would be a ruled a hit. Heck, LaRussa would have been on the phone to the official scorer if it wasn't. Yeah i agree to, this happens in every ballpark its nothing to complain about. I do agree it should be an error, But i gurantee you there have been hits given to the Cards this year that should have been errors to.
  19. every team gets the benefit of the doubt at home. I gurantee that the Cards have been given hits when they probably deserved to be errors.
  20. A league of babies... This is a great example of it. I agree UK this is another example of the league acting like this, there was no reason for him being thrown out of this game. They are now to overprotective if this happening. But it has happened in all pro sports, you cant even hit the QB anymore without getting a penalty. Sports have become to overprotective for its own good.
  21. tack on another ER for Carp and the game is tied. He's given up more hits tonight I think than all year. Looks like were gonna start hearing the Dontrelle Willis train going on ESPN tonight and tomorrow.
  22. I love Wrigley but for any Chicago writer to criticize a park for being run down and dirty is kinf of funny. Wrigley is the greatest ballpark left because of its history but the place is kind of a s**thole. The bathrooms are disgusting and not that nice on the inside. I agree that Busch may not be the best stadium but it is nowhere near as bad as he is making it out to be.
  23. I stay with Suppan he has pitched well the second half and pitched well last year in the playoffs. I still dont trust Marquis even wiht his last few games.
  24. You left Izzy off he will be on either Eldred or Thompson will be off.
  25. I think the last 2 games for each pitcher pretty much decided the award. Carp beat Clemens then went out and pitched 7 scoreless innings. Clemens after losing went out and gave up 5 in 3 innings. i know this stat is based alot on run support, but Clemens now hasnt won in a month and Carp hasnt lost in 3 months. June 8th was his last lost that is amazing.
