  1. I would love to see the Cards try to get this guy to play left this year and eventually takeover for Edmonds in center. What do u guys think it would take to get him from the Nats?
  2. If Bonds were available for cheap, and he was healthy I would take him on my team in a hearbeat. You are talking about one of the Top 5 or 10 greatest players of alltime.
  3. Group A- Arod Group b- Texieira, Pujols Group c- Chase Utley, Bay, Delgado Group d- Beltre, Helton, Gomes, Felipe Lopez wildcard- Mike Jacobs
  4. I really dont even think its that close. Last year was Johson's best year of his career. It would have been Holt 3rd or 4th best year of his career. Johson had around 1430 receiving yards, Holt has twice gone over 1600. Johnson has never caught more then 10 Td's in a season while Holt has done it twice and had 9 2 times.
  5. I would take Torry Holt over Johnson anyday of the week.
  6. Actually, rumor is that he might sign a minor league deal with the A's. Wow JuanGone and the Big Hurt, if this were 1995 that would be a scary middle of the order.
  7. Soriano played Lf today against the Cards. So hopefully this will put an end to this story.
  8. Soriano is playing LF today against the Cards so it looks like he changed his mind and decided to play.
  9. Now the Cubs can bring back Choi to back up Lee and Bobby Hill to back up Ramirez.
  10. Im not so sure you want to introduce yourself to the board by talking about Vance's bulge. But welcome
  11. I believe its players with elegibilty left, but thats just a guess from looking at the names.
  12. agreed. The white guy at the end of the bench the last 2 or 3 years has the same winning % as Brown. So what? are you kidding me? the fact that brown has been the team leader for 4 years (and no, to folks who don't know much about the illini but seem to think they do, deron wasn't ever the leader), playing a majority of the minutes and often dictating the pace of the games means nothing? i guess to you he's about as responsible for the team wins as some walk-on, though. hating. If Dee had been surrounded by different players throughout his career, his Win column total would probably be different. I don't care if he controls tempo, refills the water bottles, and presses Weber's orange blazer before every game--wins can't be attributed to Dee (or any single player.) And for the record, while I hate the Illini, I like Dee Brown. I think he's a very good college player. it's that way with every college player and team, but to assert that some walk-on at the end of the bench is as responsible for the team's victories as dee is absolutely ridiculous. why is it so hard to agree with me on this one? what on earth would cause you to hate the illini? Here is a quote from Izzo on the issue of Dee. " He's the MVP of the league because he just makes plays. Dee Brown is to them what Mateen Cleeves was for us. Some guys just have a will to win." I think Izzo knows a little bit more about basketball then any of us and he tends to think that some players are just flatout winners, and Dee is one of them.
  13. You're probably right. It's a unique situation because of the 2 teams in 1 city thing. I still think that once you take out the hard core Cub fan, most people in the city like him. My Mom is a good example. She loves her Cubbies but still likes Ozzie because he brought a champion to the city. My Dad is a hard core Cub fan (you'd like him) and he can't stand Ozzie. How the heck did you become a Cards fan? He has good taste.
  14. I think that if NC wins out and beats Duke twice they could possibly get a 1 seed depending on what happened in the other conference tournaments. I dont think that will happen though.
  15. Nothing really happened in the first half, neither team really set the tempo. Poland probablly played a little better. In the second half the US defintley took it to them and finally got a goal from Dempsy on a rebound. Keller played the first half and made a few nice saves. Howard played the second but wasnt really tested at all.
  16. Not necessarily. The Cubs would have a good chance to win the division but the only team that has a chance to 'run away' with the division in 2006 is the Cardinals. Look at their resume -they won the division last year -they have a 1-2 starting punch that is as good as any in the league with Carpenter and Mulder -they have a solid closer with Isringhausen -Scott Rolen only played 56 games last year, and stunk it up when he was playing -they still have Pujols and Edmonds as well I'm not saying the Cardinals will win the division, and I do think the Cubs have a chance. But there is no way that the Cubs run away with the NL Central in 2006 -They did win the division last year, that doesn't mean much unless you're from Atlanta -There's at least 6 1-2 punches I'd take over StL's -Izzy is getting old and is on his way out, that's why they signed Looper as an insurance policy -Rolen isn't the same player he once was. Maybe he'll turn it around, but Wood has as good a chance to return to his prime as does Rolen -Pujols I'll give you, but Edmonds is a shell of the player he used to be. Look at his dwindling numbers the past 3 years. I'd expect that trend to continue I agree with everything except on Edmonds. Edmonds arguably posted career bests in 2004. I dont agree with the Izzy comment either, he is only 34 which isnt that old and he had a good year last year. I think they signed Looper because he is dominant against right handers adn can be a good setup man and not cause Izzy is on the decline.
  17. easily? I would argue that there's no way that's going to be "easy." I only said easily because last year was stastically his 2nd or 3rd best year so that its not out of the question for him to do better because he already has.
  18. I think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to put together a predicted 2006 NL-C all star team by the position they are going to play this year? Or are you trying to put together the best possible team using players form the NL-C at positions where they are capable of playing? Both are valid questions. When you vote for "All Stars", you vote for the best at each position, don't you? Based on that, it HAS to be Pujols at first base. Depends on if I go by career or last season's numbers. Based on last season, Lee has just as much claim to firstbase as Pujols on this list. I think I'd vote for the best player at that position. I'm not sure you can make a solid case that Lee is the better player. If Lee puts up numbers equal to last season, I think his edge defensively does make him the best player. Has Lee been the best player over the course of their careers? No. That's why it is imperative to know what we're basing it on. Is it last season? Then Lee is at first over Pujols. Is it predictive? In that case, I'd probably have to go with Pujols since I'm a big proponent of three-year averages. Is it career? Well if it is, then Pujols again...but if this is career, then everyone should have Maddux as the number one starter because none of these guys has had the career that Greg has. ] I based mine on who I though was going to have a better 2006. I picked Pujols because I think Lee's numbers wont be quite as good this year as last year. But I think Pujols could easily have better numbers this year then last.
  19. True. And from my understanding, the book made no evaluations of catchers either. Yeah the guy on CardsTalk mentioned that it didnt do catchers. I have to agree with Z38 though any defensive evaluation that puts Lee behind Ward loses a little in my eyes. Anyone who has watched baseball should be able to tell the Lee is 100 times better a defensive player then Ward.
  20. I have heard of it, and a guy on cardstalk did kind of a review of it. According to the book Lee is very average over the last 3 years he is actually right behind Darrly Ward for 1st baseman. While Pujols is 3rd for 1st baseman over the last 3 years.
  21. My bad. You did say that. But you also said Pujols is "no slouch" in the field, when he is in fact, quite slouchy. John Dewean the CEO of Stats Inc wrote a book about defensive players with help from Bill James and in his book Teixiera, Mientwhatever, and Pujols were the highest rated 1st baseman over the 3 year peroid. I dont think Pujols is one of the top 3 defensive firstbaseman, but he no slouch like you say, and alot of baseball people dont think he is either.
  22. I think thats just for this year casue all the seating in leftfield wont be in this year.
  23. Just walk up to the game. At the hotel a block away(can't remember the chain), there were plenty of guys with tickets for the Neifi GS game, and that was a Sunday Night game. We got 2 really good seats for only a couple bucks over face value(face value was 42 each I think, we paid 90 for 2). And that was over an hour and a half before first pitch. Thanks. I'll try to get them online, but if I'm unable, I'll try that. Since I'm flying up for those games, I would like to have tickets in hand as a peace of mind sort of thing.[/quote Tiger is right though i usually dont buy tickets for games until I get over there and i never really pay more then a few dollars over regular price, and alot of the time you can find it for cheaper then face value.
  24. There is this guy in St Louis named Carp who might have something to say about the Cy Young race again.
