  1. And in the same league, I've gone 3-0 the last 3 weeks (6 straight W's) by a combined 90 points. Some guys have all the luck!
  2. Pretty much my thoughts. Not the helping the Mets out part, but I don't think this helps out the Cubs as much as taking on $22M and trading away players should.
  3. Beltran. Hey, just like Boras got his A+++ client out of Texas, he'll get his A+ client out of Shea. So they trade Cameron, Floyd and Beltran, and get back Manny? There OF is barren. Their big problem is they have 2 CF right now. They won't deal both. Victor Diaz could play RF. They would just need a CF.
  4. Just curious, which Dye season was breakout? He was pretty much the same hitter in 2004 and 2005, with some more HR outside of Oakland. But neither year held up against his peak seasons. Cameron started 2005 hot (once he got off the DL again), but slowed considerably, although his overall numbers ended up a little better than average and right around his peak years. What kind of year are you expecting from Cameron? At 33 next year I wouldn't expect him to have a career year. I'd think he's capable of repeating his career bests, if he can stay healthy. .260/.360/.470 is probably on the higher end of possibilities. Yeah, I guess you're right. For some reason I thought his OBP was much higher this season than last. I think Cameron is capable of those numbers, yes.
  5. That's funny. Must be a pretty balanced league. Well, at least there are a few teams on your level.
  6. Mike Cameron is due for a Jermaine Dye like breakout season. If he's healthy, I think he would be a great pickup. Again, I'd rather have him in CF and still get a strong RF'er.

    HA!

Better to be lucky than good. I was debating on starting newly acquired Willie Parker instead of Portis. Parker had a decent game with 12 points, but Portis who hadn't scored a TD all year, got 3 scores and sat out most of the 2nd half with 23 points. That made up for me getting 6 points from my QB Carson Palmer (who was negative until the final 2 minutes) and 3 from my #1 RB, McGahee. Also helped that LT scored a measley 1 point! I assumed he would get at least 20 on me.
  8. I'd like the low profile approach. Piniella would NOT be low profile (or good for that matter). I was thinking about this today actually. If the Cubs hover around .500 and fight for 3rd place again next year, what's the point in bringing in a big-name manager? A losing 2006 likely means re-building in 07 (new coaching staff definite, new management possible). Gonzalez, McLaren, and Dierker would be nice. Hershiser would be an interesting choice, but I don't think it's happening.
  9. That's my guess too. Clemens closes out his career with 7 shutout innings in the title clinching game.
  10. It's about time. I wanna see him hit 20 next year.
  11. The Orioles, Angels and Dodgers are gonna come up on every corner IF/OF this offseason.
  12. Although not both in the same OF, the combo of Manny and Papi are a better duo than Manny and Vlad.
  13. Granted, Dusty is not a perfect manager and quite possibly may not be the "right" guy for Chicago. However, that is a pretty bold statment. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few guys (under Bakers Managment) who have had career years... Barry Bonds - Giants Jeff Kent - Giants Russ Ortiz - Giants Rich Aurlia - Giants DLee ARam Mark Prior Joe Bo Moises Alou Glendon Rusch Carlos Zambrano Ryan Dempster (30+saves) Michael Barrett I am sure there are more, and sure, there are some players who sucked during there career in Chicago or even SF. However, to say that it doesn't matter who we get as long as we have Dusty to manage...is simply wrong! Exactly. I dislike Dusty as much as anyone (well, maybe not anyone...Goony?). But there are examples both ways as you point out. I don't think the sheer numbers prove anything except that managers have very little to do with player performances.
  14. May be just a coincedence but all the offensive talent on this team (Lee, Ramirez, Barrett) have had their best seasons under Baker.
  15. What do you think the odds of a 6 man bench are? I'm hoping that's how they go. Probably slim to none. Hinske would work in lieu of Branyan too. But I like Russell's power and BB rate much more.
  16. I like Sweeney a lot, but a guy like Branyan might be more valuable. He can play 1B, 3B and corner OF. The offense wouldn't suffer as much going from Ramirez to Branyan as it would from Ramirez to Fontenot. I'd love. Branyan 3B/1B/OF, Cedeno MIF, Hairston OF/2B, Fontenot 2B/3B, and a RH corner OF to go along with Blanco at C.
  17. Not quite a HOF'er. If he had stayed healthy in Colorado, he would have been a shoe-in. Great player, not quite a Hall of Famer.
  18. Time will heal all. He only walked 2 and struck out 9 in his previous 7 2/3 innings. That's about a normal walk rate for him.
  19. If the Cubs don't rush him and let him develop his plate discipline before coming to Chicago. But is he even being taught plate disipline? Is this something the Cubs are even worried about? According to this article, he is at least aware that he needs to work on it, whether or not it was Cubs coaches who made him aware. It would make sense, though, that if a Cubs player lists plate discipline as the first in a list of things he needs to work on, he probably heard it from one of his coaches. I could care less if he bunts more. It's a weapon, but only when used properly. He's a good enough hitter where he is more likely to reach base by swinging away than bunting.
  20. I'm not understanding the whole bye thing. What makes anyone think that a team would want to sit around waiting for a playoff series? If you have a 7-game series with the best team having a bye, you get: Season Ends Off day Game 1 Game 2 Travel Day Game 3 Game 4 Travel Day Game 5 Travel Day (unless you do 2-3-2 format) Game 6 Travel Day Game 7 Off day Game 1 LCS That's 15 days between games for a team.
  21. no 16 for 18 in stolen bases this year. That's better than Derrek Lee, who I'm sure you consider a good baserunner.
  22. Pujols is better than ARod. When most other things are so close, give it to Pujols for his edge in pitch selection. ARod can still be fooled for a K.
  23. I think it's stupid that if the team with the best record can't play the WC if their in the same division. A 5-game series with Houston looks a lot better than a 7-gamer. The Cards would have had just 1 game vs. Oswalt (who beat them soundly twice) and 2 vs. Pettitte (who they scored 7 runs on in 12 innings).
  24. Memphis and Vegas would be great for baseball teams. And I don't like finishing 12 games out in your division and still being in the playoffs. Of course, with the teams playing different levels of competition a wildcard is probably a necessity. The only concern would be the talent level. Is there enough major league talent to go around to 2 more teams? There's almost not enough for the 30 we have now.
