  1. You've gotta be kidding me. Benson too? Damnit!
  2. great call
  3. AGain.
  4. I don't know what's going on. Gamecenter is confused. Apparently SF had 3 1st down plays.
  5. Ugh. And nothing's wrong with defense first. But the 9ers aren't even trying. Penalties, trying to run up the middle on every play.
  6. What is this? I'm glad I can't get this on TV.
  7. Windy?
  8. What if a fan decides to throw something at him every game? Is he entitled to go after a fan every game? And you know he hears stuff all the time. Imagine a Cubs/Sox game on the South Side. The fact is, Bradley has had go-arounds with fans, coaches, teammates (albeit just 1 minor incident with a jerk), his wife, and the legal system. It's not that difficult to make judgements about his personality. That being said, I know he's getting help for his problems, and am willing to take a shot on him as a Cub.
  9. AJ Ratliff is also out. And what happened to Wilmont? Is he on the team still? The other big men have played well in the preaseason. Ben Allen and Sean Kline in particular. It'd be nice to have PE Jr right about now. But I am encouraged by the PG play. 5th year senior and JC transfer JR. Funny the team that started anywhere from 3-to-4 freshmen each game last year will start three 5th year seniors, and a 4th year SR at the beginning of this season.
  10. Hey, I'll take it. Any link showing interest in Bradley is good. If we go after Bradley I'd want to keep him in center rather than move him to a corner. If his pricetag is the same (or even lower) than Pierre's I'd go with board game boy in a heartbeat. As a centerfielder he's very good with a chance to be outstanding. As a corner outfielder he's just OK with a chance to be pretty good. Agreed. But if Hendry wants people who "can catch the ball" so bad, I can live with Bradley in RF. If Bradley in CF means bad RF. I'd take OK RF and decent CF (Pierre).
  11. Nomar would be a good choice at 3B for them. Piazza would be interesting.

  13. I've been thinking this for a while. There could be a lot of big time players getting traded this offseason. We've already have Vasquez and Manny demanding trades. We've heard an-All Star team of names that are rumored to be available: Estrada, Delgado, Thome, M Giles, Sheffield, Abreu, Burrell, Dunn, Glaus, Zito, Mench, Pierre, Floyd, Soriano, etc. So, the players are out there to be had. And as usual, no 2 teams matchup well enough (or are willing to give up the players) to get the full value out of any of these guys. Jim Hendry could come out of the winter meetings with a very good team by just sticking his nose in trades. A 3rd team will be needed for a lot of these guys, and the Cubs do have all those tradeable commodities you mentioned.
  14. Alternate uniforms are a bad idea. Nobody ever wins in them. I'm not liking the omen, here.
  15. Man, and just as I was getting on the Furcal bandwagon. Furcal (05)- .284 .348 .429 (.777 OPS) Lugo (05)- .295/.362/.403 (.765 OPS) Defensive numbers look very similar outside of this past season also.
  16. Why does he have to regress? How come he just couldn't have turned the corner at 25 (the age he was all season)? He's still very young. His numbers are on par with his previous seasons, he just stopped walking people. Becuase of 4 full seasons of mediocrity? From the ages of 21-24. Is it that unfathomable that a 25-year old pitcher is actually on the upswing and didn't have a fluke season?
  17. Weaver's a sleeper. Pick him up on a Millwood like, 1-year make good deal. I don't think he's gonna be highly sought after because of his agent, and the contract he didn't live up to that is just ending.

  19. CF-Pierre RF-Ichiro LF-Crawford 3b- Mueller SS- Eckstein 2B- Castillo 1B- Casey C- Kendall vs. LF-Dunn CF- A Jones RF- P Wilson 3B- Glaus SS- A. Gonzalez (FLA) 2b- Soriano 1b- Broussard (not much to pick from) C- J Lopez
  20. Todd Walker would provide at least average OBP. :x Don't get me wrong, I'd gladly welcome Pierre for Patterson and a mediocre pitching prospect. But trading for Pierre can mean the difference between Giles and Encarnacion in RF. I'd rather have Giles and Patterson/Hairston/Lofton/Me/ than Pierre and Encarnacion.
  21. Those numbers were a bit lower, but what happens if they continue that low? He's so dependent on batting average that if he has a down year in BA, he has nearly 0 value. If he hits .276 again next year, he will be a bad idea. He went down 50 points in batting average from 04-05, his OBP went down 50 points. If the grass at Wrigley eat up his slap hits, if playing in a smaller park causes fewer balls to drop, he's a bad baseball player.
  22. That is strange. Gibbons is at least interesting. He's much better than any of those guys you listed. If he could put it all together in 1 season, he could be a very good pickup. Last year, he had an ISOP of .240, but a BB/PA of .054. He's a career .071 BB/PA hitter, and was approaching a decent .08 before this year. If he can keep his ISOP that high, while getting back to a .077 BB/PA hitter, and can hit .277 like he did in 05 and 03 (.246/.247 in 02 and 04), he could be a solid player. Not great. But he could put up a line of .280/.330/.510. He's the only of those last guys that could give you that line and actually have a salary that warrants that production.
  23. Giles is still better. But I won't complain if this happens.
  24. What he said. Name the last time Hendry traded the best prospect in the organization and got fleeced. (no, the Dontrelle trade does not qualify) Cruz for Pratt? If Juan Cruz is the best prospect in our organization, or if he ever was, then I shudder at the thought of the future of the Cubs. "Two years ago, Juan Cruz ranked with Mark Prior as the top prospects in the Cubs farm system. But Cruz has been unable to claim a spot in Chicago's rotation and the club tired of waiting for him to live up to his potential. On Thursday, the Cubs stopped waiting, trading him and minor league lefthander Steve Smyth to the Braves for two prospects, lefty Andy Pratt and second baseman Richard Lewis." From Baseball America. :| He was also the #6 prospect in ALL OF BASEBALL in 2002 according to BA, ahead of Mark Teixeira and Joe Mauer among others. I am intrigued as to what anyone in Baseball America saw in Cruz. Apart from his impressive first start late in 2001, he never once did anything close to living up to his potential. What they saw was him dominate the minor leagues at a young age with a 95+ mph fastball, a solid changeup and a killer slider. He deserved all the props he got. He hasn't lived up to it, but that doesn't mean they were wrong.
  25. What has power done for the Cubs? They had 35 HRs from LF, RF, 1B and 3B in 04 and were a 3rd place team. They led the NL in HRs (I think) this year and were a 4th place team. Time for a new direction. If you get 15 HRs from Bradley, Murton, Barrett, 40 from Lee, 30 for Ramirez that's enough power. The best thing is every player has a potential to get on base 35% of the time. You can score a lot of runs with singles with that team OBP.
