  1. Man, I would have liked Brian Lawrence. He's inconsistent, but has the chance to get it turned around and be pretty good. He's made 33 starts 3 straight years (31 in 02), but doesn't have the ungodly number of innings. He also doesn't rack up pitch counts and has kept the ball on the ground pretty well for most of his career.
  2. Ryan Zimmerman will play 3B for the Nats. He's gonna be a great player.
  3. Songaila was a great pickup.
  4. That's Carlos Beltran. and Hee Seop Choi
  5. By GB/FB ratio. 1.14. Gave up just 20 more balls on the ground than in the air. He was much better in 04, but was very similar in 03. To put it in perspective, Jerome was slightly in the lower half of baseball in GB/FB ratio.
  6. Holy Crap! I just checked the score. I assumed it was over after the 3rd. I can't believe it! Duhon is the man!
  7. Unfortunately for the Bears, they're on a crash course to be the 4th-place division winner, matching them up against the top wild card team. You're talking about Atlanta/Carolina or NY Giants/Philly (whichever of those teams don't win their divisions). That's a pretty darn tough draw. Pretty early to tell how the divisions will pan out. The Bears are only 1 game behind the division leaders of the other 3 NFC divisions, and with getting to play the North teams so often, I'd venture to say they probably have the easier schedule. Not really "often" anymore. The Bears have already played 1/2 their division games, only 3 more left (2 GB, 1 MIN) out of 9. They still have Pitt, Carolina, TB, and Atlanta.
  8. Jerome would give up a ton of HRs in that park. He's a flyball pitcher, and he walks a bunch of men.
  9. That's pretty much the team I would try and field. However, I am under the assumption that Giles won't be a Cub. So, here's my plan B. Furcal- 4 years/ $36M Williams and Patterson for Milton Bradley Walker, Wuertz, minor leaguers for Cliff Floyd and Heilman. (or something of the like) Sign Howry 2 years/ $7.5M (or whatever deal Hawkins got) Sign Jeff Weaver 3/$30M' Sign Loogy Furcal Bradley Lee Floyd- RF Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno
  10. Not as much as I remember his umpteenth straight season as one of the top 5 most productive OFs in baseball.
  11. Furcal is a better SS than Pierre is a CF, in all aspects of the game. The Cubs have far fewer options coming thru the system at SS (Cedeno is about it) than they do in CF. And CF's are much easy to find thru free agency.
  12. Berlin would be a nice signing. Lee would at least be equivalent to Gage.
  13. because nomar's backup would be cedeno, who i wouldn't mind see getting forced into the starting role. that, and the alternative may be grossly overpaying for furcal. i'd rather pay nomar $4 mil, have him get hurt and miss four months, and let cedeno play than give furcal a 4/$45 type deal. I completely agree. Well, it would be nice if Nomar didn't get hurt and put up good numbers, but I like that worse-case scenario. I have agreed with that sentiment since June. I actually may have been the originator of the "Bring Nomar back" crowd. But it's making less and less sense to me to keep putting out a team with several players who are likely to go on the DL. Cedeno is a good backup, but remember, Walker has missed time in each of the last 2 years as a Cub. So, what happens if both go down? We go back to blaming Hendry for putting out an injury riddled team? I wouldn't fault him for paying money for Furcal. Cedeno and Patterson are the only MIFs coming thru the system. Odds are at least 1 of them won't make it. If Hendry gives a reasonable ($8M-10/4 years) contract to Furcal, I wouldn't be too upset given the likelihood of his health, the stability he brings to the defense and the offense (being a leadoff hitter), and his age.
  14. Where's Airese?
  15. Jeter actually had a decent year on D. I would have gone: Varitek Erstad (though, Teixeira was a good choice) Hudson Chavez Cabrera Crawford Wells Ichiro.
  16. I can't stand this sentiment. Pie is a prospect. Damon is a known commodity. Who says Pie will even be able to smell Damon's jock in three years? Why bet on something when you can guarantee it.... Why pay $10M a year for something that you could possibly get for 400K? Pie is right around the corner. Damon may be more of a sure thing, but I'd be willing to bet that he won't be worth anywhere near what he'll get paid.
  17. Why are so many of us wanting Nomar back, yet we complained about Hendry having too many injury risks on the team last season? I admit, I'm as guilty as anyone. But it seems a little hypocritical. The other injury risks (Wood, Ramirez, Prior) aren't going anywhere, so you'd think we would want to get less injury friendly.
  18. I'd have no problem with Burnett. I know he's had an injury history, but he's been healthy for a year and a half. Wood and Maddux come off the books next year. The money is there. Worst case, the Cubs overpay for a pitcher who's still pretty good when healthy. Best case, he solidifies an already solid rotation.
  19. =P~ Walker 2b Murton LF Lee 1b Giles RF Ramirez 3b Drew CF Cedeno SS Barrett C Wow..wow...wow...wow. After reading that lineup, I am having a cigarette. And I don't smoke. That would be nice. But I would hit Giles and Drew 2 and 4 (any order). They are likely to have the top 2 OBPs in that scenario. I would lean toward Giles at #2, because Drew has more power.
  20. I'd love Drew. Hendry wouldn't pay for that entire contract though.
  21. That would exceed my expectations. I would be very happy with that.

    Keepers

Yeah, I thought Clement was gonna have a huge year in Boston. I need some major sleepers in this draft. I believe Tim drafted his entire staff last season, and ended up with great pitching.

    Keepers

Everybody has much more pitching than me.
  24. Would have liked more developed hitters in the draft. But it's quite obvious the Cubs are best at identifying and developing pitching. As long as they keep the hot pitching prospects coming thru the system, they should be alright. As long as they make wise trades.
  25. You're right. Dillon had a bye last week and was hurt the week before that. Barber had a bad game last week and so did Gates. I've been waiting for these guys to come around. They had to make up for a lackluster effort by Holmes and Fitzgerald. If Horn can get his act back together, I'm ready to make a run! My boy put Priest in his place! Gave him a concussion.
