  1. I hate the fact that Hendry has spent over $5M on possibly the 2 most replaceable players on the team. Cedeno could easily fill whatever role Neifi is gonna fill (starter of backup MIF), and Rich Hill could easily fill whatever role Glendon Rusch is gonna fill (5th starter or long relief), with a small enough dropoff, if any, to justify saving the $5M+. It's just sickening that he signed Perez and is looking to trade Walker away. There's no question who is the better player, and unfortunately, we know Jim Hendry has the wrong answer.
  2. BTW, Bradley is just 2 years away from a .900 OPS season. If he gets back to that and behaves himself, he could be a strong option for RF for the Cubs (if Pie pans out).
  3. Really? Where have you heard those? Not to question you, but because that would be exciting! Hoops posted a thread where he said there was a three-way trade possibility between the Cubs/Marlins/Dodgers in which the Cubs get Bradley. Yeah, that's what I was referring to. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=25874&highlight=bradley&sid=af3482b776cb1464389ebbcea040dcce
  4. Grossman is the better QB. Rex is much more mobile and more accurate. I thought he looked really good before he got hurt last season, especially against Minnesota.
  5. damnit!
  6. Haven't there at least been whispers about Hendry being interested in Bradley? Why is everyone so surprised?
  7. I would like Crisp a lot. Not a game changer, but very solid, young, and cheap.
  8. USC deserves to be in the game if all those teams have 1 loss (or if all but Texas loses). Penn St. probably deserves it most because they have the most controversial loss, but USC is a better team...and the goal is to get the 2 best teams playing for the championship. What if USC (with 1 loss) played Texas (undefeated) in the Rose Bowl, USC won, and then Penn St. beat one of the other 1-loss teams in whatever bowl they play in? Who gets the National Title?
  9. Nope. Too much temptation to start him from Dusty.
  10. Yeah, Bradley's going. They'll keep Kent.
  11. Baldelli has also hit .289 and .281 in his 2 seasons. He's a much better hitter than Patterson. And you have ridiculously high standards if you call the seasons Baldelli had at 21 and 22, respectively, crappy. He is not entirely crappy, but i'm guessing you would want more out of your RF than what he has shown to date. Yeah. But what does that have to do with anything?

  13. The Rays boy wonder Andrew Freidman was discussing a 6-year deal with Baldelli before it was put on the back-burner until the GM/Manager searches were complete. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs a long-term deal in Tampa this winter. Let's see. In TB's outfield, the potential guys who could be seeing action there next season includes: Delmon Young (depending on what ownership decides) Jonny Gomes Joey Gathright Rocco Baldelli Aubrey Huff Carl Crawford Interesting. Combine that with the talk that they might move BJ Upton into the OF and the fact that Elijah Dukes could do well enough in AAA to merit a callup at some point next season, they have a decidedly bizarre (yet enviable) OF situation. I'd jump all over Baldelli for some pitching. It would take a lot to get him, but coming off his injury, he may be more available than alot of those other guys. He doesn't have the plate discipline yet, but he has superstar potential and is still very young. TB could still field an OF if Gomes, Crawford, Young (LF-to-RF). Or they could keep Crawford in LF, with Hollins (who they inexplicably love) and Gathright in CF. Gomes could DH. I could see Baldelli being more available than Gomes, Crawford, and certainly Delmon. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. More asking your opinion. But what is the big deal about Baldelli? He had one really good season at Bakersfield in A-ball. Other than that, he hasn't put together any great numbers. His .326 OBP at the major league level isn't great. His strikeout to walk ratio isn't great. He put up his numbers at a young age, so I can understand people's expectation for him to improve, but his minor league numbers aren't consistently good enough to support this expectation. So why is Baldelli considered such a catch? He improved from 03 to 04 in every single category but batting average. He was the top rated HS player coming into the 2000 draft. He's 6'4" and an amazing athlete. He put up solid number as a 21 and 22 year old. Sure his plate discipline isn't good. But he has all the talent in the world.
  14. Why play for a FG with a crappy kicker? Nevermind. Where's Edwards or the TE ?
  15. Goony has mentioned that he plays in leagues with his "friends". I think he's afraid we might try and get to know him or something.

  17. How can anyone not include Matt Morris? Morris, Edmonds, Fick, AJP, the Cubs 2005 bench, Clemens, Schilling, Randy Johnson, Steve Garvey, Steve Kline
  18. I posted about a month ago that Neifi played the best SS in the NL last season. The quantity of quality shortstops and their defense in the NL arent that great. Im not surprised people think he should've got it. I completely disagree with this. Could have made an argument for Furcal, Jack Wilson, and Vizquel (who did win it). And that doesn't even include Khalil Greene and Alex Gonzalez who are absolute wizards over there. NL SS are much better than their AL counterparts as a whole.
  19. Just exploring this a little more: by your logic, since baseball is such an indivdual's sport, and the "team concept" means little, can one man carry his team to victory without help from his teammates? Technically no. But a pitcher can get very close. Although, very unlikely, a National League pitcher could strike out all 27 men in a perfect game and hit a solo HR for the only score. The only reason he can't completely carry his team to victory is that he needs a catcher to catch the ball.
  20. That's dumb. Frank would be a prefect solution for the Cubs CF issues. Yeah, he could replace the shrubbery as the backdrop.
  21. I completely agree. But Giles for RF would completely set up the 2006 season to be a success. Everything else would be gravy. Hendry can get 2 of Giles, Furcal, Burnett, but there's only a steep dropoff from NOT getting Giles. If he does go with Furcal and Burnett, he would have to be very creative in the OF. I don't know if I trust his creativity. (Burnitz).
  22. That sounds like a Dusty quote. Taking a chance and giving a few promising rookies in the lineup some playing time seemed to have worked out alright last year for Atlanta. The only difference is that the guys that we're suggesting to put in there hit over .300 in their first year in the majors, albeit in limited playing time. I would feel more comfortable with both of them in the lineup if we had good to great production in those other positions, but I wouldn't say that I don't like having them both in there if we don't. If we don't have good to great production in those positions, it's likely we won't contend anyways, so why not give the kids some playing time and let them develop? We don't have the Braves system. It's one thing to let the kids play when its April and all we've done is resigned Neifi and Burnitz. It's quite another thing to plan on two unknowns who don't have more than one year of great minor league production to start on an offense that was subpar to begin with, at the beginning of the offseason. Exactly. And the Braves didn't even start the season with the kids. They went out and try to buy time with scrubs (Jordan and Mondesi, ugh!). The Cubs have more money to bide their time with better players. There will still be ABs for Cedeno. Even if you keep Walker and sign a SS, Ronny will get time in the MIF. If you re-sign Nomar, Ronny may get 130 starts. I'd love to get Ronny about 250-300 ABs this year, with 2 BETTER options playing most everyday. That will only make the Cubs and Cedeno better in the short and long-run.
  23. That's the key. Gotta score some runs, somehow. What if Hendry got a guy like Bradley for CF and a reclamation project for RF (someone mentioned Kearns earlier)? That would be interesting at least. But I'd hate to have an iffy OF when the pitching has health questions.
  24. Jeff Weaver. I wonder if the market will dry up and he'll be forced to go for a 1-year make good deal like Kevin Millwood. Though, Millwood still got a lot of money.
  25. I wouldn't trade Zambrano for Vlad. Who I would trade Z for straight up (in order): Albert Pujols Johan Santana Felix Hernandez Miguel Cabrera (just 50/50 on that one)
