  1. I'm right-handed, but I can do things better than most RHs can with my left hand. I can throw a spiral about 30 yards. I can throw a baseball a pretty good distance LH, but with not much velocity. I forgot my glove once and played a slow-pitch softball game with a lefty's glove. I played LF and actually made 2 catches and all the throws LH.
  2. Blowing game 3 really sucks right now.
  3. 13 groundballs in 7 innings Carlos is much better than 9 strikeout in 4 1/3 Carlos.
  4. Last time the Cubs scored 6 in an inning, they gave up 6 in the bottom half.
  5. He's a sidearmer, so that's completely expected. As a true LOOGY, he could dominate at the ML level.
  6. Big assist goes to Felix with an OF assist to save the game in the top half of the 10th. Good luck to the MLB if they want to run on Soriano and Pie for the next 5-6 years. 2 of the strongest and accurate arms around.
  7. I don't see Hester lining up at RB ever, so no. Wolfe is a third down back - he might come out to slot or something for a few plays but I can't see him taking away time from Hester. I still wonder what happens if/when Benson gets hurt....like he did as a rookie and in the Superbowl. Benson runs into people too much to make it healthy through at 350 carry season. Can Wolfe be an everydown back? I don't don't Pittman could be, who I wanted the Bears to pick instead. Still, I like Wolfe a lot. I think the Bears take something from everybody this season and we'll see a better offense. Olsen is used like Clark in Indy. Wolfe can be used like Bush in NO, although a very poor man's Bush (hehe). Hester, I'd like to see used like Steve Smith was early in Carolina. Five years later, the WR screen finally has a chance to actually work. Strangely enough, as much as the Bears needed to take pressure off of Grossman, it looks like the Bears have the personnel to actually throw the ball more than they did last year.
  8. In other words, the Cubs have been in the second most pressure-filled games when they hand it over to the bullpen of any team in baseball. This basically means that, compared to all but one team this year, the Cubs' bullpen has been placed in situations with little to no room for error. Even if the bullpen has been merely decent, with those kinds of situations constantly popping up, that's not good enough. Take it for what you will. Maybe the starters need to improve, maybe the lineup needs to do a better job, or maybe the bullpen could use an upgrade. Heck, maybe it's all of the above. The bottom line is, these tense situations in games handed over to the bullpen have magnified any flaws it has to a strong extent. That's interesting.
  9. It's not Lee. I've heard Derrek will be ready to go tonight.
  10. Why would you trade Alex Brown? I love this move with Hester. From Turner's comments it looks like he wanted Hester on offense all last season and it took till now to convince Devin... I just posted it because of this quote from ESPN Insider: Huh...I remembered the Sun-times having some of that speculation, but I assumed it was just Brad Biggs interjecting some opinion into his article. Same thing they said about Moss' contract. I think Wale could be traded, albeit for minimal value. Of course, unlike Moss, Wale can't blame his teams situation for his lack of production the last 2 years.
  11. For all the talk about Lou being better than Dusty, he has done an abysmal job putting out the most productive lineups. He has played around with the position players to much, not getting any kind of consistency. He has used Izturis and Jones too much. Murton not enough. The whole Pie fiasco. He has also done a pretty bad job managing the bullpen.
  12. The bullpen officially gave up only one run, but Cherry also let both inherited runs score in the 6th. While I agree the offense should have scored more than 4 last night, scoring at least 4 runs has been found as a good indicator of winning. The bullpen hasn't been the biggest reason why the Cubs have the record they have, but it was the biggest reason why they lost last night. They lost last night because Hank was unable to throw out Reyes on a pitchout and they failed to score anything after loading the bases. Whatever pitcher gives up the last of the five runs isn't actually to blame for the loss, contrary to MLB statistics. Every run is equal. Exactly. The glaring thing is 3 walks with 2 outs to end the game. But the bottom line is the bullpen has pitched well all year, except in what has been the most noticable of times, hence the 10 losses from the pen.

    Week 7

My game looks like a mismatch on paper, but teams score in the top 3 in the league when playing me. So, this one will be close.

    Week 7

Definitely a change at the top in the West. The top 2 from last year are the bottom 2 this year. In the East, 1-2 and 3-5 have switched places from last year. With NC Cubs thrown in up top also.
  15. Thanks!
  16. Ok, then i watch you get fired as Eaton sets up and Alf closed. With that tandem, it wouldnt matter how many innings or runs your starters gave up. Better hope for a ton of complete games. Yep, because GMs are big on letting you keep your job after a horrible tenure, when you finish 4th instead of 5th in your division.
  17. It's ironic that a team under .500 (and was moreso when the move was made), has finding a guy to close out wins as their top priority. The Red Sox moving an inexperienced starter and great proven closer (Papelbon) back to the bullpen before the season was stupid. Moving Myers to closer is insane. But at least the Sox will win more games than they lose, thus making a closer more important to them, theorectically.
  18. Fitting, I get my first league high point total for the week and will take over the league lead in overall points. Strangly enough, before today, despite being less than 5 points out of the points league for the season, I had a point differential of just 18 points. Meaning, again teams have a top 3 week in the league when playing me.
  19. Cole Hamels will love pitching to this lineup with all the K potential. Then again he's not sucky like Gorzellany and Belisle, so the Cubs might actually do something tonight. I actually like Hill's chances against the Phils. Victorino and Howard haven't hit LHPs at all this year. Neither has Burrell, and he's struggling as of late. Of course, Utley and Rollins have destroyed LHPs. I think there's a good chance Hill at least stops one of them. My guess is the Cubs win this game by a decent margin (5-1) scoring a couple runs late off the Phils pen. Hill- 7 IP, 5 hits, 1 Er (solo HR), 2 BB, 8 Ks Hamels- 6 1/3, 4 hits, 3 ER, 2 BB, 12 Ks
  20. I can vouch. Did you grab him by the tie? If I was there, I would've. That's how money that look is. Welcome to 1992. Boyz II Men started that look in about that year. I'm bringing it back, baby! http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/bnance82/DSC03131.jpg Any more fashion advice? I'm dying to know how you do it, sir. Unfortunately, I've hung up my bachelor clothes. But you do have one thing going. Women are attracted to contrast. If you aren't dressed like everyone else, you will get noticed. And unless you dress like Andre 3000 a few years back, it will be positive.

  22. Watched last night. I can really study games when they are re-runs. Really ugly game, with some outstanding performances mixed in. Probably the best LB play that I've seen all season. Urlacher almost single-handedly won that game. Briggs was great. Hillenmeyer probably had his best game of the season. Mike Brown was playing, and he's a real good player. If he's healthy, between him, Urlacher, Anderson and Tommie, the defense will be great regardless of Briggs playing or not. Probably the worst game I've ever seen from a QB. Rex made some decent throws, but all 4 INTs were horribly thrown and/or misreads. Insanely bad throws on wide open deep balls. For all the HRs the Bears hit with Berrian, Grossman could have had several more last year. Despite the "book being out" on the Bears offense, Berrian got open deep even in the Superbowl. Rex has to get more air under the ball on the deep post, and he puts too much air under passes down the sideline. Rashied Davis looked real good that game. Not as good after the catch as I would like, but probably better than the mediocre slot WR I've thought all year, especially if he continues to develop.
  23. Heh. Of my 4 starts so far this week.... 3 of them have been: 9 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K (4 TBA) 8 IP, 7 hits, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K (8 TBA) 9 IP, 7 hits, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K (7 TBA) for a total of about 123.5 points. (Also a decent 7 inning, 2 ER outing from Owings for 15 points) And none of those outings are from Cole Hamels (who faces the Cubs) or Johan Santana.
  24. FWIW, Sergio Mitre has given up 3 hits in 8 shutout innings vs. LA. A good sign to show that you made a bad trade? - The least talented of the 3 players you gave up a year ago, has thrown 8 shutout innings against the player you traded him for.... and the player you traded for is NOT on your team any longer.
  25. i don't know that pagan helps much. No, but Murton in RF is a lot better than Floyd.
